5 Reasons Why Kenny Omega will be on a possible losing streak as AEW debuts on TNT

When Kenny Omega lost at All Out to PAC, it was perhaps unexpected. While many would have thought that Omega would emerge triumphant, the unexpected happened. Omega lost the match via referee stoppage.

Kenny Omega didn't submit but it was similar to a UFC bout when the referee steps in when the fighter is in danger.

As AEW has been saying for some time, they want their product to come across as a sports league and not sports entertainment. That is the distinction that they have been aiming for and for the large part, they have been successful. At the same time, AEW has been doing something with the Kenny Omega character.

Last year, if anyone was talking about who was the most popular star in professional wrestling, it was Kenny Omega. There was nowhere on the internet where his name couldn't be heard. He was all the rage in NJPW and now, not so much so in AEW. Why? Perhaps, there's a method to the madness.

Here are 5 reasons why Kenny Omega will go on a losing streak in AEW.

#5 Rebuilding Kenny Omega

We can rebuild him
We can rebuild him

In Batman Begins, Alfred tells Bruce Wayne, "Why do we fall, sir? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up." In accordance with that, Kenny Omega needs to establish himself in the eyes of professional wrestling fans. As big as Omega is in the pro wrestling world, casual wrestling fans may not know him at all.

Here's this big star who's The E of the Elite. He was "Da Man" in NJPW's Bullet Club and their fearless leader. But it seems he has lost that momentum going into AEW. While it's not necessarily true, Kenny Omega seems to be smart enough to turn this into a legit storyline. While his core fanbase may have issues with it, there's definitely something of a payoff down the line.

#4 Give Jon Moxley his first official win in AEW

AEW's big deal
AEW's big deal

As most AEW fans know by now, Jon Moxley was slated to be part of All Out and face off against Kenny Omega. Due to a staph infection, Jon Moxley had to pull out and was replaced by PAC. In the meantime, Kenny Omega was furious that this happened and even cut a promo. He ended the promo and said,

"You see, John, I would love to wish you a speedy recovery. That's what I'm supposed to say. But at this point, I could really give a s**t if you ever come back."

It's interesting to note that Jon Moxley is yet to have an official match in AEW. His match at Fyter Fest against Joey Janela was an "unsanctioned match", which Moxley won. But his actual AEW win-loss record stands at 0-0-0. In that sense, Moxley still doesn't have a win in the company.

As announced, Jon Moxley will have their match at AEW Full Gear. AEW will certainly not allow Moxley to lose in his first major PPV match with the company. This only means that Kenny Omega will continue to lose these big matches on major PPVs. The more he loses, the further down the card he goes.

# 3 To get Kenny Omega over in AEW

The fall before the rise
The fall before the rise

In a recent rambling promo on Being The Elite, Kenny Omega appeared intoxicated and exclaiming, "Look what you've done to me, Jon." The Young Bucks are disturbed by Kenny Omega's antics and question whether he's in the right frame of mind, as he seemed to be taking his loss to PAC pretty severely.

In a way, this is a smart move on AEW. If Kenny Omega had beaten Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing and went on to win the AEW Championship at All Out, it wouldn't have the same ring to it. Considering that Kenny Omega is also an EVP alongside Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, they would have been accused of booking themselves to win the main title in the company.

For the record, Kenny Omega is not yet well known in North America, especially to the casual wrestling fan. This is where AEW on TNT comes to play. They need to build his character and get him over the viewing audience. One of the rules in pro wrestling is that the Babyface gets over when they are chasing the Championship belt.

So, in that sense, they will be able to build his character over time.

#2 Establishing Kenny Omega's road to redemption

A way forward
A way forward

AEW has been pretty smart about their booking, despite some unforeseen setbacks. They have been dynamic and have rolled with the punches. In the case of Kenny Omega, his match with Jon Moxley had to be changed. Despite that, they managed to craft a storyline, even without Moxley in the picture.

As mentioned, Kenny Omega is not actually well known to US audiences. And, with AEW on TNT, he will be most certainly introduced. During an interview with Collider Live, Chris Jericho stated the same and said,

"We've got a lot of guys to build. Because if you're going to a nationwide wrestling audience, they know Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, Jon Moxley, Dustin Rhodes..they might remember Cody...Other than that, there's a really a whole new collection of guys."

"Of course, the hardcore wrestling fan knows The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Pentagon and Fenix, but now we have to introduce them to a nationwide audience and get them over one-by-one. You can't put 40 new guys on TV. We have to take our time, to build everyone properly one-by-one."

The storyline with Kenny Omega has already been teed up for AEW on TNT. The hope will be that fans will be tuning each week to see how he fares.

So, in time, the hope is fans will get to know the Omega that thrilled audiences over in NJPW.

#1 Winning the AEW Championship

The Omega directive
The Omega directive

If things go as planned, Kenny Omega will eventually become AEW Champion. It's just a matter of how gets there. It's not a matter of "If" but "when." Think about that for a minute. If Kenny Omega had been made the first AEW Champion, there would have been a lot of criticism towards AEW management. Instead, they made Chris Jericho champion, which goes against the wishes of the public.

This is actually smart booking. Chris Jericho has proven more times than none that he is that "damn good." His little #alittlebitofthebubbly meme that went viral is a tribute to his natural genius and more reason why he was the made the first AEW Champion. At the same time, Chris Jericho is playing a very good heel.

It looks more and more that Chris Jericho will hold the title for some time going forward. It will require someone who has seen the ugly side of losing to dethrone him. And that person will be extremely over with the audience. Moreover, fans will get to witness the last of the trilogy of matches between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho.
