5 reasons why Sami Zayn aligned with Shinsuke Nakamura on this week's WWE SmackDown Live

Since capturing the Intercontinental Championship at Extreme Rules, Shinsuke Nakamura has had one of the quietest reigns of all time. That changed last night though, as Nakamura aligned himself with Sami Zayn, who appeared on Miz TV thanks to the Wild Card rule.

During the segment, Zayn spoke about his frustrating loss to Cedric Alexander in the first round of the King of The Ring tournament and said he was going to start giving back to others, starting with the King of Strong Style.

When Miz tried to get some answers out of the Intercontinental Champion, Zayn accused the A-Lister of “not getting it." This further led to the Miz receiving a beatdown from the Champion.

This certainly has left fans scratching their heads over the partnership, and here are five reasons why Sami Zayn aligned with Shinsuke Nakamura on this week's WWE SmackDown Live:

#5 Because they are going to feud in the future

Yes, I know they only started working together on this week's show, but let's look at the possibility of a breakup between the two. One of WWE's most tried and tested tricks is the tag team breakup angle, and putting these two together could all be part of a plan for the pair to split and wrestle each other.

More knowledgeable fans will remember that these two have already faced off at NXT TakeOver: Dallas in 2016, in what was Nakamura's first match in the company.

That match, which Nakamura won, was one of the best bouts of the year, so it's no wonder why WWE would want to replicate it on the main roster some time down the line.

#4 To give both men a sense of direction

Nakamura hasn't had much of a direction since capturing the championship from Finn Balor
Nakamura hasn't had much of a direction since capturing the championship from Finn Balor

Shinsuke Nakamura captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the kick-off show of Extreme Rules from Finn Balor, though you'd be forgiven for forgetting that it was the Japanese star who held the gold.

Much like Nakamura's United States title reign from last year, his tenure with the IC title have been quiet to say the least. He hasn't had any major feuds for the gold at all, instead coasting on the blue brand without a direction, something that definitely shouldn't be happening for a champion who in theory is supposed to be the second-biggest star on SmackDown Live.

Much like the King of Strong Style, Sami Zayn hasn't exactly got much going for him either, as the Canadian was eliminated from the King of the Ring tournament on this week's RAW in the first round, losing decisively to Cedric Alexander.

Partnering the pair together gives both Zayn and Nakamura something to do for at least the next few months, and with how talented both Superstars are in the ring, expect big things from the new partnership.

#3 Because Shinsuke Nakamura needs a mouthpiece

Nakamura has struggled in the past on the microphone, having to speak in a second language.
Nakamura has struggled in the past on the microphone, having to speak in a second language.

Shinsuke Nakamura is one of the most talented Superstars in WWE today. His athletic style is unique solely to him, and his charisma has made him one of SmackDown's most exciting stars. With a unique look, move-set, entrance, and a legion of loyal fans from his time in New Japan, it seems the King of Strong Style has it all, except promo skills.

Obviously, Nakamura can hardly be blamed for this, as the promos he does deliver are not in his native language, but it's clear that skill on the microphone is a crucial part in helping a Superstar's push in the company.

Insert Sami Zayn, someone who has proven himself to be more than capable on the mic, both in English and French-Canadian due to his time growing up in Montreal.

Not only can the Underdog from the Underground help keep his momentum going on the microphone, but he could do wonders for Nakamura, as he proved on last night's SmackDown Live.

With Zayn by his side, the sky's the limit for the King of Strong Style.

#2 Because SmackDown Live needs more tag teams

There aren't many teams to face the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day.
There aren't many teams to face the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day.

Though many fans consider SmackDown Live to be better than Monday Night RAW, it's no secret that the so-called B-Show is lacking when it comes to credible tag teams.

Once again, The New Day are the tag team champions, and though it's great to see the pairing of Big E and Xavier Woods do well, the titles themselves have been lost in the shuffle, as the two Superstars are side characters in the feud between WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton.

With former champions Daniel Bryan and Rowan dealing with Roman Reigns, and the champions before them the Hardyz on the shelf, it's clear something needed to change.

Introducing Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn as a new tag team on the blue brand could be the breath of fresh air that SmackDown Live desperately needs.

If RAW's The Revival aren't able to take the SmackDown Tag Titles from The New Day, then the partnership of the King of Strong Style and the Underdog from the Underground could make fine champions if they take down Woods and Big E.

#1 Because a feud with The Miz is planned

The Miz was left reeling after being attacked by Nakamura on SmackDown Live.
The Miz was left reeling after being attacked by Nakamura on SmackDown Live.

Though Sami Zayn had plenty to say about the King of Strong Style on this week's edition of SmackDown Live, Shinsuke Nakamura decided to let his actions speak for themselves.

During the segment of Miz TV, Nakamura attacked the Miz and Mrs star, in what could be the start of a feud between the two. As fans all know, Miz is one of the finest talkers on the mic WWE currently has, able to elicit a huge response from the fans whether he's a face or a heel.

Putting the A-Lister against Nakamura, who keeps his promos short due to his limited English, is hardly fair to the King of Strong Style, which may explain why Zayn, another Superstar gifted on the mic, may have been put with him.

It's been over a year since Miz last held singles gold in WWE, which coincidentally was the Intercontinental Championship, which he lost at WrestleMania 34.

If the company is ready for the A-Lister to hold the title again, then the attack this week is definitely the right way to start.
