5 reasons why Samoa Joe is becoming the new Bray Wyatt in WWE

Samoa Joe is one of the most talented all-round performers in WWE, with many fans agreeing that his mic skills are amongst the best on the current main roster. Joe is also a very skilled in-ring competitor, having wrestled classic matches against the likes of AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels during his run in TNA and Impact Wrestling.

While Joe is always a prominently featured star on weekly WWE TV, he has yet to win a top title in the company and has been on the losing end of several main event title feuds in the past few years.

Additionally, Samoa Joe continues to rack up big match losses in 2019, making him one of the most defeated Superstars on the current WWE main roster.

Strong comparisons can be drawn to the way Samoa Joe is being booked to the way Bray Wyatt was booked before he reinvented himself as The Fiend, so let's take a look at 5 reasons why Samoa Joe is becoming the new Bray Wyatt in WWE.

#5 Samoa Joe is becoming all talk

Samoa Joe cuts one of the best promos in WWE, there is little doubt about that, but when it comes time to stepping in the ring, Joe comes out on the losing end much more than he does on the winning end.

Of course Joe's job as a heel is to lose to WWE's top babyfaces, but lately, Joe's promos are sounding more and more empty, as he is unable to back up his words in the ring.

Joe is bordering on a dangerous spot in WWE, in which fans will start to tune out his great promo work as they know he will inevitably lose whatever match he is promoting. Notable superstars who suffered similar fates were Bray Wyatt and Big Show when Show was a top heel in WWE.

#4 Samoa Joe's win/loss record is very lopsided

A user in the Kult of Kayfabe Facebook group put together the above graphic, which shows Samoa Joe's very lopsided win percentage in WWE, compared to his time in other companies, and it's staggering, to say the least.

WWE likes to maintain that wins and losses don't matter in their world of pro wrestling, but if you look at Samoa Joe's win percentage, he dipped below 10% in 2018 and is at just north of 40% in 2019.

Looking back at his time in ROH and TNA, Joe's win percentage was near 80%, as he was presented as a top talent in both promotions.

If Joe continues to lose big-time matchups against top stars in WWE, it will become harder and harder for the fans to buy into Joe as a real threat in the company. The same thing happened with Bray Wyatt, and by the time he took time off from the ring, his promos were met with mostly silence from the crowd.

#3 Samoa Joe is limited in the ring

If Samoa Joe was only a force on the microphone, it would be easier to understand why he is not being utilized to his full in-ring capacity, but Joe is one of the most skilled wrestlers on the WWE main roster, and he is not allowed to showcase his true abilities in his current role.

In TNA, even when Joe was a top heel in the company, he was still wrestling classic matches with top talents such as AJ Styles, but the same cannot be said for his run in WWE.

Joe has had some great matches in WWE, but they are few and far between, and fans are starting to remember only the big losses.

At WrestleMania 35, Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio had the opportunity to steal the show, however, the match was booked as a total squash, with Joe retaining his U.S. Championship in a very forgettable bout.

#2 Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt don't have the typical WWE physiques

It certainly looks like Bray Wyatt has put on more muscle following his hiatus from WWE television, but nevertheless, Wyatt does not have the typical physique that Vince McMahon tends to be a big fan of.

History tells us that Vince McMahon prefers the overly muscular physique when it comes to WWE Champions, with names like Roman Reigns, John Cena and Brock Lesnar capturing top spots in WWE due in part to their looks.

With guys like Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe, they don't have the look of a John Cena or a Brock Lesnar, despite their abilities in the ring.

Samoa Joe actually had a great feud with Brock Lesnar a couple of years ago, but the intense feud was paid off with a lackluster match from two talents who could have had very hard-hitting, show-stealing main event contest.

#1 Joe is the ruthless "killer" in WWE who only wins outside the ring

Similar to Bray Wyatt, Samoa Joe has been positioned in WWE as a ruthless heel willing to stoop to just about any level to mentally assassinate his opponents.

During his feud with AJ Styles, Samoa Joe actually involved Styles' wife and kids, showing up at the Styles home and threatening to harm Styles' family.

At one point, Samoa Joe even encountered AJ Styles' child at a WWE event, an angle which prompted some fans to question whether or not WWE had gone too far with the storyline.

Bray Wyatt was positioned as this type of heel at one point in his WWE career, however, despite all of the evil doings from Wyatt, The Wyatt Family, and now Samoa Joe, the two Superstars were unable to deliver when it came time to step in the ring and win the big match.
