It was announced recently that the match between The Undertaker and AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 would be a Boneyard match. While no one really knows what that is yet, the possibilities of what could come from this are endless. Beyond that, it could go a long way in making WrestleMania 36 a memorable moment in WWE history.

If nothing else, WWE is really thinking outside of the box with this idea. A lot of it has to do with no one knowing what to expect from this match but that could end up working in the company's favor.

With that being said, here are five reasons why WWE booked the two in a Boneyard match. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and tell us what you think will happen at The Show of Shows this years.

#5 Protects both Superstars in defeat

Although no one knows exactly what a Boneyard match is at this point in time, one can imagine that it won't take place under the rules of a normal bout. One could also probably imagine a special stipulation being added in order to win the match and that will definitely help WWE in a lot of ways.

Not only does it open the door to the unthinkable happening at WrestleMania 36, but it also allows the company to protect the loser of the match. Of course, a loss is still a loss and will damage the person that comes up short a small amount, but it would be nothing compared to what a straight-up match would.

In the end, WWE needs to keep their booking options open when it comes to WrestleMania 36 and a part of that is booking stipulations like this. Sure, it might look hokey and overbooked at first, but if the company can do a good job of utilizing different environments, it could end up working.

#4 Hides The Undertaker's limited mobility

A Boneyard match would be a great way to hide Undertaker's limited mobility.

Believe it or not, making The Undertaker versus AJ Styles a Boneyard match could be a stroke of genius. In fact, it could go a long way in covering up many of the problems that are bound to arise at this year's edition of WrestleMania, which include Undertaker's limited mobility.

While the WWE Universe is firmly invested in The Undertaker as a character, no one can deny the fact that his best days in the ring are behind him. It is safe to say that a five-star classic is not what this is going to be, but the company can make up for it with the use of their new environment.

In the end, a Boneyard match allows WWE to focus less on the wrestling aspect of this match and more on capitalizing on the environment they will be in. Whether it turns out positive or not remains to be seen and will depend on where the company wants to go with this match stipulation, but at the least, it covers up The Undertaker's limited mobility.

#3 Creates a new reality

The best thing about WWE's announcement of a Boneyard match between AJ Styles and The Undertaker is the fact that no one knows what it is about. Not only does this allow the company to do whatever they want during this match, but it also creates a new reality that the company can utilize in the process.

Think about it -- WWE has done an awesome job of creating a new reality with The Fiend this past year and now know what it takes to make a particular world special. So what is to stop the company from taking what they learned from Wyatt's newest creation and translating that into some kind of paranormal adventure?

Where WWE ultimately decides to go with this remains to be seen and will probably depend on what they want to accomplish, but the possibilities are truly endless. Beyond that, it is a beautiful distraction from the empty arena that some of the other matches will take place in.

#2 Utilizes a new location

One of the many challenges that WWE will face this year with WrestleMania 36 is the fact that the show will not have a crowd. Fortunately though, they are starting to work around that problem with ideas like a two-night event, a rumored Warehouse match between John Cena and 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt and a Boneyard match between AJ Styles and The Undertaker.

Of course, the jury is still out on what exactly a Boneyard match is and if it will be any good or not, but it is a definitive way to break up some of the action. In fact, The Boneyard match, the Last Man Standing match and WrestleMania being two nights for the first time ever could all work together to break up some of the action.

In the end, it's not going to be perfect and is again going to present its own challenges, but it is much better than having nothing at all. Furthermore, if fans could just go into this with an open mind and realize that the company is doing everything they can to ensure a memorable experience, then this match might gain some appeal.

#1 Chance to officially retire The Undertaker

It's no secret that The Undertaker is the longest-tenured Superstar in WWE history and it has been an absolute thrill to watch him throughout his career. From his zombie-like early Undertaker iteration, all the way to his biker phase, The Undertaker delivered on a scale that not too many others could even dream of.

However, The Undertaker is not getting any younger and his limited mobility inside the ring has become more and more apparent. As a result, it may finally be time that the company consider retiring The Deadman. Now, that's not going to be a popular decision, but the addition of a Boneyard match stipulation might be the best way to go.

It falls in line with the historic lore that has emanated from The Undertaker throughout his career, and it also allows WWE to protect him in his final defeat. It is an interesting way of passing the torch, gives Undertaker one last WrestleMania moment and leaves the fans with something to truly remember.
