5 reasons why Vince McMahon won’t allow Sasha Banks to beat Becky Lynch at Hell in a Cell

Last year, WWE witnessed the entire fandom come together to cheer for ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch. She went on to make history by locking horns with Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey in the WrestleMania main event – the first-ever women's match to headline the biggest show of the year.

Lynch walked out with two belts but eventually lost her SmackDown title which took away her ‘Becky Two Belts’ tag. Despite losing one belt, Lynch continued to rule the women’s division and is still one of the most celebrated Superstars on the roster.

Her fearless run with the RAW Women’s Championship stumbled upon its biggest challenge when Sasha Banks returned to WWE after a four-month-long hiatus. As soon as she was back, Banks lashed out at Lynch for glorifying the spotlight that ‘she never deserved’.

Naturally, ‘The Man’ who loves to shut down all those who question her caliber, decide to lock horns with ‘The Boss’.

From stealthy chair shots to brutal brawls, we have seen Becky and Sasha lock horns on several occasion. Last week, Banks challenged Lynch to a title match at Hell in a Cell and Becky ensured that this match was booked inside the steel cage.

The two of the biggest female Superstars on the main roster are now set to go toe-to-toe inside the monstrous structure. After her loss against Becky at Clash of Champions, Sasha is expected to win the title at HIAC.

However, there are several reasons why WWE can’t afford Becky to lose her title right now. Some may argue that her Championship run has become monotonous but there is still a lot at stake.

Sasha Banks is worthy of being the champion and will most likely become one before the end of the year. However, she might not get the hands on the gold at WWE’s upcoming PPV.

Here we look at few of the reasons why Vince McMahon won’t allow Sasha Banks to walk away with the RAW Women’s Championship.

#5 ‘The Man’ as a brand

There's too much at stake
There's too much at stake

Becky Lynch enjoyed one of the most successful Championship runs we have seen in recent years. Even when she was a challenger for the title, she had the entire WWE Universe behind her.

Lynch’s ground-breaking success as the face of the women’s roster and WWE landed her multiple historic opportunities. From taking out legends inside the squared circle to being named as the Women's Wrestler of the Year (2018) by Sports Illustrated, Becky tasted more success than any other woman in WWE.

She also became the first female Superstar to grace the cover of the WWE 2K series. The game is set to release on October 22, 2019 – about a fortnight after Hell in a Cell.

The only other Superstar on the cover is Roman Reigns who currently has no title around his waist. Moreover, he is unlikely to win a Championship in the next three weeks.

If Sasha Banks wins the match against Becky Lynch at Hell in a Cell, neither cover stars of WWE’s much-awaited game will have a title. Lynch’s brand is built around her Championship run and without the RAW Women’s title, that is likely to take a hit.

Therefore, WWE would want her to hold onto the title for a little longer so that they can add more fuel to her feud with Sasha Banks while simultaneously avoiding any damage to her brand.

#4 Becky Lynch’s first-ever Hell in a Cell match

'The Man' likes to make history
'The Man' likes to make history

This will be the first time that Becky Lynch fights inside the steel cage. Sasha Banks, on the other hand, has competed inside the wicked cage. She faced Charlotte Flair for the RAW Women’s Championship in the first-ever HIAC match that featured women.

While Banks already has one HIAC loss under her belt, Lynch is yet to experience the brutality inside the steel cage.

It would make more sense if Lynch walks out as a champion in her first-ever HIAC match, thereby asserting her dominance. Additionally, it will help in advancing the feud between the two horsewomen in the following weeks.

It is difficult to overshadow Banks’ in-ring skills and overall persona. If she loses yet again, it will allow her opponents to taunt The Boss which in turn, will bring the best out of Banks. Given her recent run, it is inevitable that the WWE Universe would soon start backing her for the title.

Therefore, the only way WWE can have both these Superstars explore the best of their abilities is by having them engage in a feud that employs several elements of their history in the company.

#3 Extended rivalry on RAW

RAW Women's division needs one epic rivalry
RAW Women's division needs one epic rivalry

Let’s be honest, there aren’t a lot of WWE Superstars who can stand tall in front of Becky Lynch. The latter’s dominance in the pro-wrestling business over the last year is difficult to fathom.

This sets apart Sasha Banks who is regarded as one of the best female Superstars to have stepped inside the squared circle. She is one of the few people in the locker room who can address ‘The Man’ with the confidence of a worthy opponent.

Together, Banks and Lynch can push each other to their respective limits. This is an iconic feud in the making and Vince McMahon would like to see it get more intense with each passing week.

Moreover, except for her feud with Ronda Rousey, Lynch’s RAW Women’s title has not seen a significant rivalry build up. Even then, she was a contender and not a champion. Ever since her title win, Lynch is yet to fight someone who poses an equal challenge to the ‘The Man’.

But with Banks, she has the opportunity to engage in strife that will become one of the biggest highlights of her title run. Their extended feud on RAW will eventually allow them the space to create havoc in the RAW women’s locker room. And who knows, we might discover another Superstar in the making as its outcome.

#2 Avoid repeating history

Becky Lynch is no longer an underdog
Becky Lynch is no longer an underdog

Earlier this year, Becky Lynch won the Women’s Royal Rumble which helped her earn the title at WrestleMania. By the looks of it, her feud with Sasha Banks is likely to find its final destination at the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’.

If Banks goes on to win the title, WWE will have her keep the title around her waist for some time. After all, we need a heel to run the roster every once in a while, to fetch compelling build-ups. Banks can be a convincing heel who takes pride in her title, and rightly so.

In that case, the RAW Women’s Championship will go down the same road as last year. To see Becky Lynch win the Royal Rumble and challenge Banks for the title at WrestleMania will steal the unique elements of this feud. Instead, WWE would rather create a feud that boasts of fresh milestones.

They are both incredibly talented and can pull off one good match after another. Not to forget, this feud also involved the other two horsewomen — Bayley and Charlotte Flair – who will have little to nothing left to do if the creatives book a similar storyline as last year. Therefore, slapping a repeated set of events into the feud will ultimately be to WWE’s detriment.

#1 Avoid conflict with Bayley at Survivor Series

Enjoy while it lasts...
Enjoy while it lasts...

Sasha Banks and Bayley are best friends but we all know ‘The Boss’ loves herself more than anyone. Her best-friend-turned-foe conflict with Bayley is inevitable but it is too soon to have these two women bid against each other.

Last time, WWE hinted at a rivalry between Banks and Bayley but they ended up reconciling. Following that, they went on to become the first-ever Women’s Tag Team Champions but if you remember the events leading up to it, it was Bayley who did most of the work.

Banks and Bayley share a lot of history which needs to be carefully crafted into an epic feud. At NXT Takeover: Respect, we saw the magic that these two Superstars can create and if we are lucky, we might see something better in the future.

Ever since Banks’ return to WWE, Bayley has been by her side, preaching loyalty to the mass. If Banks wins the RAW Women’s Championship, she might face Bayley at Survivor Series. This will downsize a potentially epic feud to a one-off encounter. Moreover, it will abruptly pause Banks’ feud with Becky.

The only other way to avoid this conflict is to have Bayley lose her title but her recent heel turn needs a little more time with the gold. Having her lose the SmackDown Women’s Championship will put the ‘overshadowing’ narration into perspective more than we want.

Again, if that happens, Banks vs Bayley will become the most important feud for both horsewomen which will leave Becky Lynch with no title and no conflict.
