Back in 2014, CM Punk appeared in the Royal Rumble match that was eventually won by the returning Batista. This was the last appearance of Punk inside a WWE ring. He left the company immediately after and is still 'retired' around 5 years later.

Over the past few years, fans have consistently clamored for Punk to make a return to pro-wrestling. When All Elite Wrestling came on the scene, the hopes of Punk's fans rose again, and many speculated that he will make his return at AEW's first show, Double Or Nothing. Nothing of this sort happened, and there's still no word on whether Punk will ever make his return to pro-wrestling. Recently, it was reported that WWE has no interest in bringing back Punk.

Let's look at 5 reasons why WWE has lost interest in one of the biggest stars of his generation.

#5 Punk's interview with Colt Cabana

Months after leaving WWE, Punk finally spilled the beans on his WWE exit and took a string of shots at WWE, Vince McMahon, Triple H, and many others. Punk stated that WWE's doctors took his medical condition lightly. His biggest gripe was that he never got to headline a WrestleMania, which was a goal he had set for himself.

I’m the f****** happiest I’ve been in at least three years. I thought this thing that I loved, that I thought I loved, it just made me so miserable all the time. When you boil it all down, I was miserable. I was unhappy. F*** it, I made myself happy. I left. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but it was also a long time coming.

The Cabana interview took the pro-wrestling world by storm, and the things Punk said in the sit-down could be one of the major reasons why WWE has no interest in signing him at this point.

#4 Punk is reportedly hard to work with

There are several stories about Punk being hard to work with. He became possibly the biggest star in WWE following his Pipebomb promo in the summer of 2011. Punk wanted more, and his goal was to be featured in the closing match of WrestleMania.

On one occasion, Punk teamed up with Chris Jericho to take on Edge and John Morrison in Canada. Throughout the course of the match, Punk didn't tag Jericho in, and this didn't sit well with the latter. Things got ugly pretty soon after the match was done and dusted with. Jericho confronted Punk in a backstage area, with his argument being that fans might have paid to see him in action. This was just one of several incidents that prove that Punk could be difficult to work with on some occasions.

#3 Vince might have moved on

Now that we are learning reports of WWE having no interest in trying to bring back Punk, let's dive down memory lane, back to 2014.

Punk had recently given the infamous Art of Wrestling interview, and had stated how WWE sent his termination papers on the day of his wedding. Surprisingly, Vince McMahon went on to publicly apologize to Punk for firing him on his wedding day.

I would like to do this. I would like to apologize. Sometimes in a big corporation, the legal people don't necessarily know what talent relations are doing and conversely. Punk got his severance papers moreover on the day he got married. That was a coincidence. So I want to personally apologize for that.

Vince also hoped that he would work with Punk someday again. It seems like Vince has finally moved on and is no longer interested in wanting Punk back, 5 years after he stated otherwise.

#2 Punk's rift with Triple H

After Punk's interview with Colt Cabana came out, it was reported that Triple H was furious with him. During the interview, Punk talked about how he was white-hot during "The Summer of Punk" storyline, and Triple H destroyed the momentum by defeating him at Night of Champions 2011.

Punk didn't hold back his words while talking about Triple H in the interview. Soon after, it was reported that Triple H was furious with Punk over his comments. Both Triple H and Stephanie McMahon had 'an abject hatred' for Punk and he was on their no-call list. One of the biggest reasons WWE doesn't want to sign CM Punk now could be the fact that Triple H holds a considerable amount of power in WWE at present, and he must be making sure never to let Punk in again, after what he said about him years ago.

#1 WWE already boasts an impressive mix of past and present Superstars

WWE NXT

WWE currently boasts possibly the greatest roster in the world, chock full of talented athletes from not only the United States but from several other nations. Monday Night Raw, SmackDown Live, 205 Live, NXT, and NXT UK have some of the most impressive batches of past and present Superstars at the moment.

Maybe WWE has finally gotten over the thinking that they need Punk at this point in time. Although WWE is still bringing back past Superstars, they probably don't want to bring back Punk, who has had a controversial past with them. Besides, the company probably wants to focus more on pushing the stars they currently have and build a strong base for the future, instead of bringing back a Superstar who has been at odds with them for the past 5 years.
