5 Shocking outcomes that could happen at Survivor Series

Will WWE do the impossible at Survivor Series?
Will WWE do the impossible at Survivor Series?

Can you feel the magical energy that permeates throughout the buildup to Survivor Series, as the WWE Universe tries to figure out what brand will come out on top? As if that wasn't enough to think about, WWE also has a variety of dream matches, title matches, and even traditional Survivor Series Elimination Matches, which only further amplifies the significance of the event.

If nothing else, Survivor Series is a must watch pay-per-view and is sure to help shape the landscape of the company for months to come. It could even be the start of the Road to WrestleMania build, which leaves open the possibility of fans seeing things happen that they usually wouldn't

With Survivor Series right around the corner, everyone is wondering what WWE has planned for this massive event. Here are five shocking outcomes that could happen at Survivor Series. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

#5 RAW and SmackDown teaming up

What if RAW and SmackDown were to team up to take down NXT?
What if RAW and SmackDown were to team up to take down NXT?

RAW and SmackDown are coming into Survivor Series looking to maintain WWE's main roster status quo and that can only be done by toppling NXT at the pay per view. Unfortunately for both brands, NXT has already fired the first shots in the war leading up to the show and have scored some major victories in the process.

With NXT looking more unstoppable by the day, it looks like RAW and SmackDown are going to have to team up to take down The Black and Gold Brand. At least that way, the two main roster brands can maintain the status quo and leave it between them to decide who WWE's dominant brand is.

Whether that happens by secret deals or simply by on the spot alliances remains to be seen, but don't be surprised if the two established brands resort to dirty tactics in order to win at Survivor Series.

#4 Finn Balor costing NXT

Finn Balor could cost NXT everything at Survivor Series.

Could Finn Balor do the unthinkable and turn his back on NXT at Survivor Series?

Sure, Balor made his return to NXT earlier this year and made his intentions known that he was going after the NXT Championship, but has also made clear that he absolutely despises NXT. In fact, Balor went so far as to cost Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, and Tommaso Ciampa during an episode of NXT, which was only the beginning of his transgressions.

As if that wasn't heinous enough, Balor would go on to cut a promo calling the entire NXT roster pathetic. While the scathing promo would fully cement Balor's heel turn, it also fueled speculation that WWE was planning on having Balor cost NXT the brand war at Survivor Series.

Not only would this be a great way to make NXT look strong in defeat and make a RAW or SmackDown victory a little more bearable, it also makes Balor the most hated man on The Black and Gold Brand. It might even be the continuation of a career resurgence for Balor, which he has sorely needed.

If WWE does book NXT to lose at Survivor Series, the company should do the right thing and have Balor be the one to cost them. At least that way, the loss does something for the brand in the long run and also protects NXT from an outright defeat.

#3 Shayna Baszler winning the Triple Threat Match

Becky Lynch versus Shayna Baszler versus Bayley. Who wins?

Becky Lynch, Bayley, and Shayna Baszler are set to do battle in a historic Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series and while some see this as just another battle in the war for brand supremacy, it's obviously so much more than that. In fact, it could be the beginning of something that fundamentally changes the landscape of WWE for years to come.

Becky Lynch has been on top for so long that the WWE Universe is almost begging for someone to upset 'The Man,' which means that a loss isn't going to hurt nearly as much. Beyond that, WWE doesn't even have to have to have Lynch take the loss. She just has to not win the match.

While Baszler defeating Bayley probably wouldn't have the exact same impact, it would still be a big win for 'The Queen of Spades' and bode very well for her future with the company. WWE could also go for broke and have Baszler beat Lynch straight up, but such a finish comes with the risk of making Lynch look weak in the process.

With that stated, a loss for Lynch could be a good way to start an over arching storyline between The Four Horsewomen of WWE vs The Four Horsewomen of UFC and could end up culminating in a match at WrestleMania 36. Furthermore, Baszler has already mentioned Ronda Rousey's name during a backstage interview segment, which seems to point to the former RAW Women's Champion coming into the storyline at some point.

If nothing else, having Lynch lose to Baszler would be a great way to set up Rousey's return and also set up 'The Queen of Spades' for a momentous run in WWE. It could even be the start of her coming to RAW or SmackDown to capture a main roster women's championship.

#2 Rey Mysterio winning the WWE Championship

Can Rey Mysterio defeat Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series?
Can Rey Mysterio defeat Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series?

Rey Mysterio vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship is set to happen at Survivor Series and while this essentially looks like a squash match on paper, outside factors surrounding this feud show otherwise. In fact, between Lesnar's ongoing feud with Cain Velasquez and the WWE Universe demanding a Fiend vs Lesnar match, it seems like anything can happen.

Of course it would be very strange to have Mysterio defeat Lesnar for the WWE Title only a month after 'The Beast Incarnate' destroyed Kofi Kingston for the belt, but it would be a nice shock to the system. It would also create something new for the overall title picture, which is always popular with fans.

The best part of it is that the outside factors surrounding the match could make it so Brock Lesnar can lose the title and still look strong in defeat. For example, Lesnar could destroy Mysterio, leading to Velasquez making the save and aiding Mysterio in taking the title away from 'The Beast.'

Perhaps WWE could go a step further, have Mysterio get destroyed, and then have Lesnar focus his attention on Dominic. This would allow for The Fiend to instead make the save, become a firm babyface in the process, and set up The Fiend vs Lesnar down the line.

WWE could even do both of these things without having the title change hands, but that would also run into the problem of WWE again going with the status quo. That's why WWE almost needs to move the title at Survivor Series and interference gives the company the perfect opportunity to do so.

#1 NXT winning the brand war

Can NXT overcome the odds and win it all at Survivor Series?
Can NXT overcome the odds and win it all at Survivor Series?

Can NXT do the impossible? Can the Third Brand overcome the juggernauts that are RAW and SmackDown? Can the Black and Yellow Brand assert themselves as WWE's most dominant at Survivor Series? While that might sound like a ridiculous question, especially since NXT has only been on television for two months, the way they are being booked seems to say otherwise.

Much of that booking probably has to do with making things interesting and giving NXT an underdog-like narrative, but one also has to imagine that the presence of Wednesday night competition is playing into WWE's decision to make the former developmental brand look so strong.

With that stated and WWE almost needing to have NXT win at Survivor Series in order to justify the entire narrative, there doesn't seem to be any other option at this point. Sure, they could give RAW or SmackDown the win and keep either as the dominant brand, but that might create a whole lot of fan backlash.

In the end, WWE has done some great storytelling with the NXT invasion and it would simply not do it justice, if it was all undone by a RAW or SmackDown victory at Survivor Series.
