5 Signs that Chad Gable could win the 2019 King of The Ring Tournament

Chad Gable has definitely been the dark horse throughout the King of the Ring Tournament since there weren't many fans who would have thought he would be in the semi-final of the competition, just two wins away from becoming king.

Gable was able to defeat Shelton Benjamin and Andrade en route to the semi-final match against Elias tonight but it was a huge shock that Andrade was knocked out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage since he has had so much backing in recent months.

Gable has been bullied about his height throughout the tournament and WWE even showed Samoa Joe backstage with the former triple crown Tag Team Champion where he pointed out that he was too small to be a king.

WWE loves an underdog which means that it's incredibly likely that Gable could be the one having his hand raised at the end of the tournament on Sunday night at Clash of Champions but there are a number of other signs that point towards Gable becoming the king this weekend as well.

Chad Gable is a former triple crown Tag Team Champion, alongside Jason Jordan as American Alpha the duo completely dominated the Tag Team Divisions on NXT, SmackDown Live and Monday Night Raw a few years ago, but the team was split up when it was revealed that Jason Jordan was Kurt Angle's son.

This was a storyline that went nowhere for Jordan, who was later injured and is now working backstage as a producer for WWE instead, but it left Gable in a bad position backstage. Shelton Benjamin was later brought in and the duo became a new version of American Alpha, but it wasn't something that worked out.

Since Benjamin and Gable went their separate ways, Gable has rarely featured on WWE TV but when he has he's made sure that he has put on a fantastic show and proved that he deserves much more than he has been given.

#4 WWE loves an underdog

Gable was easily the biggest underdog heading into the tournament and somehow he has managed to already make it to the semi-finals. Baron Corbin has already been at the to of his game as the Constable of Monday Night Raw and over the past few months since he lost his position at the top of the ladder.

WWE has taken the gamble on Corbin a number of times, so it makes sense for Gable to finally be given the chance to shine since King of the Ring is a tournament that usually makes a person's career.

Corbin is already considered to be one of the top names on Raw, whilst Elias is only at the top of his game because of Shane McMahon, since he cheated to get through the first round of the tournament.

Gable is the only star who really needs a boost like a King of the Ring win, and since he's the biggest underdog in the competition, WWE is aware that a win for the former Tag Team Champion would definitely pop the WWE Universe at the same time.

#3 WWE copyrighted "Shorty G"

Many WWE fans are already aware that sometimes when WWE trademarks names it usually means that someone is getting a name change or the company is about to announce a show. Back in July WWE filed for the trademarks for "Smackville" and "Shorty G". Whilst the former was a show that the company presented merely weeks later, many fans were confused by the "Shorty G" name.

In recent weeks, throughout the King of the Ring tournament, Gable has been bullied because of his height, which has led to many fans believing that Gable will win the tournament and he will then go on to call himself "Shorty G".

It's an interesting spin on the current situation since Gable has been bullied about his height by many stars in the locker room and if he decided to spin it into a positive and use it in his name then it could stop many of these stars from saying that he's too small to compete.

Gable will prove that he isn't too short if he can win the King of the Ring so a name change could be in order after Sunday night.

#2 WWE wants to create some new names

Given his in-ring skills, Gable could easily be the next big thing
Given his in-ring skills, Gable could easily be the next big thing

WWE is struggling to make main event stars at present, which is why the likes of Ali, Buddy Murphy, and Cedric Alexander have all been given huge pushes on WWE TV recently, but none were able to make it very far in the King of the Ring tournament.

With SmackDown making the move over to FOX, WWE is aware that they can't depend on Roman Reigns to be at the forefront of the action on both shows anymore so they need to push someone else into the main event picture and create some new names for both brands.

Chad Gable is exclusively on SmackDown Live so it would be interesting if he was able to pick up the win and be the star of the Blue Brand as the company looks to make the move over to Fox on October 4th.

After all, Gable is a former Olympic wrestler and a talented WWE Superstar who can step up to anyone in the ring and still put on a good show, so he would be a fantastic choice to win the tournament if the only other option is Baron Corbin.

#1 Chad Gable would be accepted better than Baron Corbin

WWE has obviously made the decision that they no longer book their show in order to please the WWE Universe since it's obvious that sometimes their fanbase makes more noise when the company goes against what they want.

That being said, it's well-known that Baron Corbin isn't well-liked by the WWE Universe and the company has pushed him as far as he can go as a hated character and as King of the Ring there isn't much that WWE can do with him that they haven't already done with him as an authority figure.

Elias is busy in a feud with Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon at present, so it makes it likely that Chad Gable could be the one to pick up the victory on pay-per-view on Sunday night. Gable has won over the WWE Universe a number of times when he's put on some of the best matches of the night on SmackDown Live against some of the hardest opposition, so given the choice between Gable and Corbin, it's likely that Gable would be the obvious choice.
