5 Signs that the Seth Rollins of today in WWE is the Roman Reigns of yesterday

Rollins and Reigns are both two of WWE's biggest stars
Rollins and Reigns are both two of WWE's biggest stars

Both men are really close behind the scenes and both of them came up as part of the trio known as The Shield, one of the most popular factions in the history of WWE. Even though the three men have been top guys while they were members of The Shield, they have been prominently featured stars even when they have gone solo too!

Roman Reigns has now transitioned and in a sense, evolved, to the next stage of his career where he is well-respected and adored by fans, ever since the man returned after battling the biggest heel ever- cancer. In many ways, Seth Rollins has taken the interesting spot that he had been slotted in, just a few years ago.

Why do I say that? I will give you 5 compelling reasons in this article.

I also invite you to rate the top matches from RAW right here.

#5 Fans boo Seth Rollins, even though he is a babyface

Gone are the days when the good guy would be cheered and the bad guy booed, like old-school wrestling. These days the fans decide whom they want to support and who they don't like to see.

Seth Rollins was on top of the world back when he became the Universal Champion but something happened since then, and the WWE Universe has been unable to connect with him. I suppose it has essentially been a lack of compelling scripts and storylines from the Creative Team that has led to this unfortunate situation.

There is no edge in Seth Rollins' character, and funnily enough, he only needs to look at his real-life girlfriend to see what's missing. And any WWE fan knows that this was the unfortunate spot that Roman Reigns was in for a really long time, thanks to WWE Creative writing stuff like 'Suffering Succotash' for The Big Dog's promo segments.

#4 Ability to work against and elevate both heels and babyfaces

Seth Rollins is, on paper, the biggest babyface on RAW even now, but as has been explained before, the crowd doesn't always accept him as such. And so, while he takes on heels like Andrade or even Walter, he can even take on babyfaces like Humberto Carrillo, when it is needed.

In fact, he went up against AJ Styles in a babyface vs. babyface program earlier this year, which was important to prove that Styles would be a major player on RAW. This is long before he turned heel and joined The OC.

Of course, this is something that Roman Reigns used to do in the past as well, back when he was the biggest star in the company, taking on both babyfaces and heels depending on the storyline. Shortly after AJ Styles joined the company, he had a series of thrilling battles with Roman Reigns in a babyface vs. babyface feud, and we also remember Reigns' thrilling contest with Finn Balor, back when he was a babyface.

At the same time, Reigns would never be averse to taking on heels like Bray Wyatt or Bobby Lashley, for most of his career.

#3 Insistence of fans to turn Rollins heel

Let me preface this by saying that while I do believe that the process of turning Seth Rollins heel is underway right now, by no means is he a bad guy yet. There's still the question of whether or not the man is aligned with The AoP at his point in time.

But, like most of Roman Reigns' career, when fans did not connect with him as a babyface, they want a heel turn and they want one right away, so to speak! They believe that Seth Rollins should embrace the boos and slip over to the dark side, not realizing that a heel Seth Rollins may be cool and may actually get cheered.

This is the reason why WWE has been so reluctant to turn Seth Rollins heel until now and why they have never turned Roman Reigns heel either. But that does not stop fans from clamoring on social media and also on chat forums for a heel turn from the current face of RAW.

No decision that WWE makes will make everyone happy, to be fair. Which is why they're probably unwilling to make the much-requested heel turn happen.

#2 Faces of the brand in the absence of Brock Lesnar

Let me begin this section of the article by saying that both Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns have victories over Brock Lesnar. Not a lot of people can say this, and this includes top stars in the current WWE landscape. But they also occupy a very important role, that few others can fill.

Brock Lesnar has been the face of the brand previously when he held the Universal Championship, but he certainly wasn't around every single week at that point. Roman Reigns would step up to the plate and become the face of the brand in his absence, the anchor of RAW, in a sense, I'd say. And now, Seth Rollins has stepped into the role as the biggest star of a brand where the WWE Champion is absent, ever since Brock Lesnar arrived on the Red Brand from SmackDown.

The only reason why Vince McMahon does not mind a part-time Champion as the face of RAW is because he knows that he has a competent and reliable star in Seth Rollins. When he's not Tweeting, that is.

#1 Can be relied upon to have the match of the night

There was a narrative going around at one point in time that Roman Reigns could not wrestle at all, which was absolutely off the mark and how. Roman Reigns has proved, time and again, that he's one of the best when the bell rings, silencing the 'You Can't Wrestle' chants, a few hundred critics at a time.

And therefore, whether it was a pay-per-view or a RAW/SmackDown taping or even something like a WWE Live Event, Roman Reigns could be relied upon to tear the house down and just blow the roof off. This is a more natural transition for Seth Rollins, who had a fantastic independent wrestling career before he even arrived in WWE.

I doubt there was ever a point where people said that Seth Rollins could not wrestle, except for the times when he got onto Twitter and made light of other Superstars' bank accounts. Social media is probably the one department where Seth Rollins is lagging far behind Roman Reigns.

Who would you say is a better face of the company- Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins?
