Sting has been very vocal about a dream match between him and The Undertaker. Fans have been demanding this match for years but they never witnessed it. It seems like as each year passes WWE is less inerested in booking the match, and according to a report, Vince McMahon has been concerned with putting two hurting, aging men in the ring together (at least these two). Nevertheless, rumors have circulated that WWE could bring Sting back to have a possible match with The Undertaker at this year’s WrestleMania. Fans are excited to hear this but only time will tell if Vince will actually go through with it.

We think that McMahon could allow this match to take place at this year’s ‘Mania. Here are 5 signs that The Chairman wants Sting to return and challenge The Undertaker to a WrestleMania bout.

#5 The Undertaker hasn't been seen because he is preparing to face Sting

We all know that whenever WWE makes a trip to Saudi Arabia, they call legends and bring them back to the ring. Goldberg, for instance, returned this week on SmackDown to challenge The Fiend to a match at Super ShowDown. Brock Lesnar is also traveling to Saudi Arabia with his fellow wrestlers where he’ll defend his WWE Championship against Ricochet.

Besides these two matches, WWE doesn’t have anything big that will sell Super ShowDown to the fans. The Undertaker is one name who has missed numerous pay-per-views in a row. Nobody knows the reason behind this.

Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda recently stated that once The Deadman returns, he will work in Saudi Arabia, miss WrestleMania, and return to the Middle East once again later this year. However, it seems like the plans may have been tweaked. Perhaps The Undertaker is returning for WrestleMania rather than Super ShowDown. Who could he face at ‘Mania? The ideal answer for many is Sting.

#4 Sting said it’s the only match he wants to have

Sting has always spoken openly about wanting to have a match with The Undertaker. The former WCW Champion suffered a career-ending injury in 2015, but he still hopes to come back to face The Phenom. While speaking to Sports Illustrated, Sting stated the following regarding a possible ‘Mania return.

"If there was a 'Taker situation at WrestleMania, I would listen to that phone call. I could get in condition and I could pull it off."

It’s clear that Sting has one single match left in his mind -- a WrestleMania bout against The Undertaker. Maybe Vince McMahon finally gave in and is now considering the match for this year’s extravaganza. After all, this appears to be the only match that can get Sting out of retirement, and the fans do want him to return.

Interestingly, WWE had previously considered Sting vs ‘Taker way back at WrestleMania 27, but at that time, it was The Icon who rejected this idea. He wouldn't have his first match in WWE until 4 years later at WrestleMania 31.

#3 Sting may not want to wrestle in Saudi Arabia

WWE recently contacted Sting about his return, but the talks later died for unknown reasons as reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.

“As noted several weeks ago in The Elite section of PWInsider.com, there had been a push for Sting to be used at the 2/27 event, but as of last night, we are told those talks have died down.”

It’s possible that Sting rejected WWE’s offer to wrestle in Saudi Arabia. We know that many wrestlers have declined to travel to the country and it wouldn’t be surprising if The Stinger has done the same. Perhaps he is open to wrestling Undertaker at any other pay-per-view. Here’s what he said on WWE Untold last year:

"You know if everything lines up just right. Vince, Triple H, ‘Taker, and Sting, maybe we could do this. Maybe we could just do a little, let’s just do a face-off. Let’s get you guys involved in this or that. So maybe I could do it. Maybe I could do that. I don’t know, again, if it’s just ego and pride or whatever, but I feel like I could do it all these years later."

#2 Give the WWE Universe one more big dream match

Sting vs The Undertaker is a dream match the WWE Universe has been dying to see
Sting vs The Undertaker is a dream match the WWE Universe has been dying to see

WrestleMania is a clear winner when it comes to providing dream matches. None of the other WWE pay-per-views have provided as many dream matches as ‘Mania. It’s the biggest show on the WWE calendar and we have to agree that each year, Vince McMahon tries his best to make this event memorable.

Last year, the women headlined the show. In 2018, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. AJ Styles actually happened inside a WWE ring. The year before that, Seth Rollins defeated his mentor, Triple H, in a majorly hyped non-sanctioned match. These were dream matches for the WWE Universe. So far, the company has already booked one dream match for us in Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship. We know that that nobody is really satisfied with just one, so why not add another match that everybody wants to see? Sting vs. The Undertaker is the one. It's bigger, historically, than any other "dream match" WWE could possibly send down to the ring.

#1 A legendary end to a legend’s career

Sting had his first match in WWE against Triple H at WrestleMania 31. He lost his debut match, something many still believe shouldn’t have happened. Later on he would continue his rivalry with The Authority that began at Survivor Series 2014 when he found himself head-to-head with Seth Rollins. They battled for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions in what would prove to, as of now, be Sting's final match.

It was only Sting's 4th match inside of a WWE ring, and due to a freak accident that wasn't immediately an obvious injury as the match took place, it turned out to be his last. Even though he left wrestling for the biggest prize in the industry, surely it's not how he would’ve wanted to retire. If Sting can wrestle (and he said he can), then why not bid him farewell with a match he clearly wants to have? Even Edge returned for this reason. He wanted to end his career on his own terms. Maybe, Sting could do something similar? He can return and challenge The Undertaker to finally put an end to his career -- the way he wants to.
