5 stupidest things ex-WWE employees did after leaving the company

Who else but El Patron?

The WWE is the pinnacle of professional wrestling. Despite the immense popularity of independent promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor, the WWE remains the ultimate goal for a majority of the young, up and coming talent out there in the big wide world of professional wrestling.

Unfortunately, getting to the WWE is only the first step in a long journey for these would be household names. There have been a number of WWE superstars and employees who never made it big after coming over to Vince McMahon’s house of wrestling. And, even if they did, they did not leave the promotion on top.

Some of them go on to better things and make something of themselves. Just look at the likes of AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, and Kenny Omega – all of whom never had a successful first stint in the company. They are now legends of the business. But, some of these people don’t use this as motivation and the fact that their time in the WWE didn’t work out affects them.

It fosters some deep resentment in these men and women, and they end up lashing out against their former employers to regain some of their lost success and enjoy a few more moments in the spotlight.

So, without any further ado, let’s get into our list of 5 stupidest things ex-WWE employees did after leaving the company:

#5 Ryback and his podcast

Ryback’s Podcast is peculiar

What is the purpose of Ryback’s Podcast – Conversations with The Big Guy? Is it to discuss the current landscape of professional wrestling? No. Is it to create a brand presence for The Big Guy? No. Then, what is it? Well, it’s for the former WWE employee to pass inane comments against the company on a regular basis.

Once he was let go from the WWE, he could have really tried to make a name for himself on the indie circuit. He had the name, and for the most part, he had the skills required. Instead, he has wrestled in no major indie promotion with any sort of regularity and instead, just rips on WWE management, the product, and everything else to do with the company, week in and week out.

#4 Sunny Days are long gone

The days are now cold and dark

Sunny is called The Original Diva. She single-handedly made being a female manager the in-thing in the 1990s and played her role in catapulting Shawn Michaels into the main event picture during that period. These days, though, she is far from that perfect diva.

Battling various personal demons, Sunny seems to be spending her days talking about sexcapades from her past and making insulting comments towards the women who have been excelling in today’s product.

It’s sad that someone of her calibre has been reduced to this, but it is also incredibly stupid of her to make these comments when the WWE is in the midst of a very successful Women’s Revolution.

#3 Alberto El Patron’s drunken rants

El Patron goes on many drunken rants

You are a top star in the WWE. Your reputation starts to falter, and you find yourself sliding down the card. You then ask for your release from the company and are granted that release. What is the next logical step? To make a name for yourself on the indie circuit, yes? And, that’s exactly what Alberto Del Rio – now known as Alberto El Patron – did.

He is now the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion in Impact Wrestling. So, what exactly is the problem? Well, the problem is that El Patron is fond of going off on drunken rants against his former employers. Nothing wrong with that, we’ve all done it in our homes. But, the stupidity comes in when he records these videos and uploads them to the internet.

The kicker in this deal is that his fiance, Paige – who regularly appears in these videos by his side – is still an employee of the WWE and is one of the most gifted women on the roster. This might well derail her promising career.

#2 Vince Russo’s job application

Russo is a worker

Vince Russo is either a genius or a nutcase, depending on who you’re talking to. The man who has played a big role in WCW, WWE, and TNA as a top creative talent has made a reputation for the eccentric. One thing clear, though, is that he is angling to get a job on the WWE’s creative team once again. Nothing wrong with that.

His method for achieving this, on the other hand, is questionable, to say the least. He constantly berates the product and says he could do a much better job if he were given the opportunity. It’s basically a glorified job application where he is insulting everything about the company he wants to work for.

This is most likely a publicity stunt to get more people tuning into his shows, but it’s still stupid as all hell to pass these comments. After a while, everyone stops taking you seriously, and that’s exactly what’s happened with Mr Russo.

#1 Scott Steiner’s various issues with the WWE

Who else was going to be number 1?

Scott Steiner did not enjoy a great run in the WWE. The former WCW star did enjoy a stint in the main event picture but ultimately fell victim to Triple H. This caused numerous issues backstage until Steiner eventually left the company.

Once Big Poppa Pump left, he did not move on to other things quietly. He might have wrestled for the likes of TNA (now Impact Wrestling) in the years following his release from WWE, but he never misses an opportunity to take aim at this former employers.

He was even banned from attending WWE events – most notably the WWE 2015 Hall of Fame Ceremony – after he allegedly made comments threatening to beat up Hulk Hogan. Not the smartest move there, Scott.
