The 2019 WWE Extreme Rules PPV is officially in the books, and after several twists and turns, new Champions were crowned and the age of The Beast is once again upon the WWE Universe.

The PPV saw the triumphant return of The Undertaker, who just weeks after a very disappointing showing at WWE Super ShowDown redeemed himself with a great performance alongside his tag team partner Roman Reigns.

Following the PPV, it appears as if the WWE SummerSlam card might be taking an early shape, with possible Extreme Rules matches and fresh bouts being signalled for next month's PPV after Sunday's event in Philadelphia.

Given the above, let's take a look at 5 likely WWE SummerSlam bouts following tonight's Extreme Rules PPV.

#5. The Undertaker vs. Drew McIntyre

"Enjoy it, ladies and gentlemen. We don't know how many more times we are going to be able to enjoy what we witnessed tonight. The absolute athletic prowess of one of the greatest of all-time."

The above words were spoken by Michael Cole immediately following The Undertaker and Roman Reigns' win over Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre at WWE Extreme Rules. The quote drove home the fact that The Dead Man's WWE in-ring future remains in limbo, despite an impressive showing from the ageing Phenom at Extreme Rules.

Following tonight's PPV, it looks like The Undertaker still has what it takes to pull off a solid match, making a singles bout between 'Taker and Drew McIntyre very likely for SummerSlam next month.

It was reported earlier this week that plans for Undertaker vs McIntyre are not set in stone as of now, but the bout very well could take place at SummerSlam, taking place in August, as The Undertaker is scheduled to appear at the PPV.

It was also reported following WWE Super ShowDown that Drew McIntyre is someone The Undertaker is very much interested in working with, making the bout likely for one of WWE's biggest PPV events of the year.

#4. AJ Styles vs. Ricochet

AJ Styles and Ricochet are both settling into new roles on WWE TV, with Ricochet being pushed as a fresh, top face on the Raw brand, and Styles reuniting with The Club to become one of the red brand's newest heels.

At WWE Extreme Rules, the veteran AJ Styles was able to pick up a victory over the defending Champion Ricochet, to earn the WWE United States Title.

The bout was not without "controversy", however, as Luke Gallows interfered on behalf of AJ Styles at the end of the Extreme Rules match and attacked Ricochet when the referee was not looking. The attack allowed Styles to hit the Styles Clash for the match and US Title win.

Given the circumstances surrounding AJ Styles' Title win at Extreme Rules, it seems likely that Ricochet will earn a shot at regaining his United States Title at WWE SummerSlam next month.

#3. Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Cross

The unlikely pairing of Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss as allies was doomed from the start, and after WWE Extreme Rules, it's very possible the anticipated Nikki Cross vs. Alexa Bliss match will take place at SummerSlam.

At Extreme Rules, Bliss and Cross lost a handicap Smackdown Women's Title match to Bayley, an outcome which is certain to upset Little Miss Bliss.

Bliss and Cross were hyping themselves as the soon-to-be "co-Women's Champions" should they beat Bayley at Extreme Rules, but despite their best effort, Bliss and Cross came up short and Bayley retained her gold in a clean match win.

Should Alexa Bliss blame Nikki Cross for the match loss at Extreme Rules, and it's very likely she will, then the turn could setup Bliss vs Cross in a singles match at SummerSlam, leaving a new challenger open to emerge for Bayley at the PPV.

#2. The New Day vs. Heavy Machinery

It's time to clap your hands for the six-time WWE Tag Team Champions, as The New Day, consisting of Xavier Woods and Big E, won tag team gold at WWE Extreme Rules.

The New Day were able to defeat Heavy Machinery and the defending Champions, Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan, in a triple threat title match, and they will likely head to SummerSlam as the Champions.

It might make more sense for WWE to book a New Day vs. Bryan and Rowan match at WWE SummerSlam, but with Heavy Machinery heating up as a tag team on Smackdown Live, it does not make sense to keep them out of a high profile match at the big PPV next month.

New Day vs. Heavy Machinery could be a very fun, competitive tag team title match, which could end up earning Otis and Tucker their first runs with the WWE Tag Titles on the main roster.

#1. Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins

WWE Extreme Rules capped off with Brock Lesnar finally cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase against Seth Rollins to become the new WWE Universal Champion.

The age of Brock Lesnar begins once again in WWE, but the big question will be how long Lesnar's Title reign will last.

With WWE heading into its big TV deal with FOX in October, many fans believed Brock Lesnar might head into October as the Smackdown Live WWE Champion, but with the brand split all but dead, it's very possible the Universal Title could pop up on the blue brand occasionally.

With Paul Heyman in charge of Monday Night Raw going forward, it makes the most sense for Lesnar to appear on Raw as the Universal Champion, and his run will most likely lead to a rematch against Seth Rollins at WWE SummerSlam.

Because Lacey Evans and Baron Corbin lost their tag team match at Extreme Rules, they lost the ability to challenge for their brand's titles, meaning the SummerSlam bout is likely to be a singles match featuring Lesnar vs. Rollins.
