The job of a WWE Superstar has tons of perks- worldwide recognition, merch sales, huge fan followings; you name it! On the other hand, there are a handful of drawbacks associated with being a WWE Superstar, like having to be on the road for the better part of the year and staying away from loved ones for extended periods of time.
There have been several instances in the past where WWE Superstars were frustrated with the company. On many occasions, these Superstars keep it to themselves so as to not hurt their standing with the promotion. Then, there are some who confide it to a few, and the same gets leaked via dirt sheets. Finally, there are WWE Superstars who openly talk about being unhappy with the company over one or the other reason.
In the following list, we will look at five WWE Superstars who openly spoke about their unhappiness with WWE over their position in the company.
#5 Shinsuke Nakamura hits back at a fan who assumes that he is happy with his position in WWE
Shinsuke Nakamura is one of the most talented athletes in the pro-wrestling business. He came to WWE carrying his international fame with him, and his fans were beyond excited to see him perform on the big stage. WWE used Nakamura to his fullest potential in NXT, but things took a turn for the worse when he made his way to the main roster. His WrestleMania 34 loss to AJ Styles was the first blow, and he was soon turned into a mid-card act.
Recently, a fan talked about Nakamura being happy working in WWE, as he gets to wrestle a safe style. Nakamura quickly responded to the fan and made it clear that he isn't happy with WWE.
"who said I’m happy? Don't believe anything other than what I said."
Shinsuke Nakamura is currently a mainstay on WWE SmackDown. He has been a mid-card attraction for around three years at this point, and he isn't getting any younger.
#4 Mustafa Ali openly makes it known he is unhappy with WWE for not using him on TV
Last year, between February and July, WWE Superstar Mustafa Ali wasn't used on TV at all. There were plans for him to be revealed as the SmackDown Mystery Hacker, but the storyline never reached a proper conclusion. Ali came back to WWE TV in July and suffered a loss against Bobby Lashley in his return match. He soon revealed that he was the SmackDown Mystery Hacker.
During his absence from WWE TV, though, Ali was quite active on Twitter. When a fan berated him by stating that he has the easiest job in the world, where he doesn't need to do anything and still gets paid, Ali hit back with all his might.
"Yeah man. It’s real nice to be in your prime and wanting to use the exposure you get to bring light to serious topics, but instead forced to the sidelines for reasons beyond your control. Real nice to not be allowed to do what you’re passionate about."
Mustafa Ali has been leading RETRIBUTION on RAW since then. The faction isn't doing anything noteworthy at the moment, and many fans are speculating that the end is near for RETRIBUTION.
It would be interesting to see how WWE handles RETRIBUTION in the following weeks as we inch closer to WrestleMania.
#3 Sasha Banks unhappy with WWE for her short Women's title reigns
Sasha Banks' current WWE SmackDown Women's Championship reign is her longest, and she will be defending the title against Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 37. There was a time years ago when Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair were playing hot potato with the RAW Women's Championship.
Around that time, Banks held the belt for short periods of time, with zero successful title defenses. Banks opened up about the same in 2017, and it was clear as day that she was frustrated with WWE.
"Within a whole year, I’m a three-time Women’s Champion, which, to me, is a lot. I am a three-time two-week holder of a championship, so that took away my confidence so much."
"It’s stuff like that really brought down my confidence levels, like maybe there’s something wrong with me and they don’t see me as a champion or legit they wanted to have all these title changes and they wanted people to talk about it."
Thankfully, WWE has corrected its past mistakes with Sasha Banks' current Women's Championship reign. Chances are high that Belair will come out victorious at WrestleMania 37, but Banks will finally get to have a big 'Mania match after holding the title for around six months.
#2 Cedric Alexander didn't mince his words while expressing his frustration with WWE
Back in early 2020, Cedric Alexander posted a tweet, making it clear that he wasn't happy with how WWE had been booking him on RAW. The tweet came out soon after Dave Meltzer of WOR reported that WWE didn't have any plans for him, hence he wasn't being used on TV around the time.
Paul Davis reported at the time that Vince McMahon didn't see anything special in Alexander. Here's what Cedric tweeted:
Months later, Alexander engaged in a feud with The Hurt Business and later ended up joining the faction. Ever since he joined The Hurt Business on RAW, Alexander has been doing fine for himself and has been getting ample screen time.
. At TLC 2020, Alexander and Shelton Benjamin defeated The New Day to become the new RAW Tag Team Champions. The Hurt Business has been a huge success and has turned Bobby Lashley into a big star. Lashley isn't the only one whose WWE career was reinvigorated in The Hurt Business, though, as Alexander's career was also revitalized after he joined the stable.
#1 Becky Lynch opens up about her frustrations with WWE booking
Back in August 2018, Becky Lynch spoke with Inside The Ropes about her frustrations with how WWE was booking her on SmackDown. The interview was uploaded on August 19. On the same night, Becky turned heel at SummerSlam and kicked off one of the greatest runs of any Superstar in WWE history.
"When I was drafted to SmackDown, I wanted to make sure that it was the Women's division to watch, and it became that. And then, for some reason, I was sidelined for a long time, and I was just frustrated, because I knew that I had done everything right, I knew that every match that I had gone into, I had given a 120%."
"I knew that I didn't stop thinking about it, didn't stop working for it, every time I went to the gym, I was training as hard as I possibly could, so I would get back on top, but I wasn't necessarily getting the opportunities."
At SummerSlam, Becky Lynch turned on Charlotte Flair, and the fans cheered for her like never before. WWE soon turned her into a babyface, and the era of The Man kicked off.
At WrestleMania 35, Becky Lynch defeated Flair and Ronda Rousey in the very first Women's main event in WWE history to become a double Women's Champion.
