Following the Backlash PPV in June, WWE will host Extreme Rules in July, once again at the Performance Center. The PPV, which goes by the tag line "The Horror Show at Extreme Rules", has some never-before-seen matches, as well as a few Championship matches.

The Swamp Match between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt will be an interesting one to watch, as will the 'Eye for an Eye' match between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins. The WWE Championship, as well as the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championships, will also be on the line at the show.

We could be in for some surprises at the show, which could see a few Superstars return to set up a future match for SummerSlam.

Let's take a look at 5 Superstars who could return at WWE Extreme Rules 2020:

#5 Shayna Baszler

It's a pity how Shayna Baszler has been used on RAW ever since she was called up from NXT earlier this year. Reports have suggested that Vince McMahon is not a fan of the former NXT Women's Champion, with a reported reason for this recently revealed:

"Vince also soured on Baszler completely because he never conceptually grasped the style that an MMA fighter should use in pro wrestling and she doesn’t check his buttons when it comes to women in wrestling, so he made the call to remove her push and take her off television. This was all before Heyman was dumped."

Baszler has not been on WWE television for quite some time now, as she was abruptly pulled off television in May. Fans were hoping to see Baszler face off against current RAW Women's Champion Asuka, who will be defending her title against Sasha Banks at Extreme Rules.

Shayna Baszler should be given another chance to show her worth as she is a WWE Superstar that has it all to become a success - perhaps even to the level of Becky Lynch.

We could maybe see WWE surprisingly bring her back at Extreme Rules and have her interfere in the match with Asuka, to begin a feud with the Japanese Superstar. It's quite certain that Banks will feud with her best friend Bayley in the future, so it doesn't make sense for her to win the RAW Women's title.

#4 Erick Rowan

Bray Wyatt will face off against Braun Strowman in a Wyatt Swamp Fight at WWE Extreme Rules, but the Universal title will not be on the line for that match. We aren't quite sure what's going to happen at the swamp fight, but it's certainly going to be a cinematic match.

In the vignettes to promote the match, one former Wyatt Family who has featured with Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman is Erick Rowan. Rowan was released by WWE earlier this year, but unlike his former Bludgeon Brother, Luke Harper, he has not joined any promotion since his release.

There could be a possibility of him returning to the WWE for one more time, just like Heath Slater returned this past week on RAW for a one-off show. Wyatt even teased this on social media a few weeks ago.

There could be a Wyatt Family reunion (of sorts) at Extreme Rules with Rowan's return, and it will be interesting to see how the storyline progresses. Will Strowman join forces with Wyatt once again? Only time will tell.

#3 Christian

WWE Hall of Famer Edge made an incredible return to the ring earlier this year at the Royal Rumble, after satisfying WWE's doctors over the condition of his health. This gave hope to WWE fans about the returns of other Superstars who were forced to retire due to serious injuries, like Edge's good friend and former tag team partner, Christian.

WWE teased the same last month when Christian had an unsanctioned match with Randy Orton. Orton defeated Christian after Ric Flair low-blowed him, while The Viper landed a punt on Christian.

But, Christian hasn't been cleared to wrestle, which Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue revealed last month. He could, though, somehow be involved with WWE, in storylines involving Edge.

Christian hasn't been seen on WWE television since that match against Orton on RAW, but there's a possibility that he could be a part of Extreme Rules to take revenge on Orton, when the Legend Killer faces The Big Show.

It seems that we could get Randy Orton vs Edge Part III soon after the latter returns from injury, and Christian could be used to keep that feud going. Christian costing Orton the match against Big Show could all lead to that third match between Orton and Edge, sometime later this year.

#2 Brock Lesnar

Since losing the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 to Drew McIntyre, Brock Lesnar has been absent from WWE television. This is not a surprise considering The Beast wrestles in only the big PPVs or at Saudi Arabia shows.

With SummerSlam just over a month away, Brock Lesnar should feature on WWE television in the coming weeks, to set-up his next feud. It will be interesting to see whom Lesnar feuds with and faces at SummerSlam.

There are quite a few options for Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam with the latest report stating that Lesnar could face off once again against Drew McIntyre. There's also been a lot of talk about Lesnar facing off against Bobby Lashley, which would be a dream match of sorts.

Lashley recently spoke about the prospect of facing Lesnar in WWE:

“I haven’t talked with Vince, but I think at one point in time, there was some talk about maybe teasing it and seeing where it went. But, at the time, he was knee-deep in a feud with Roman, and then Seth was coming behind him. They already had things lined up for him. I think if anytime, it is now. Now is a really good time."

If Lesnar is set to face McIntyre at SummerSlam, he could be at Extreme Rules to send a message to the Scottish Psychopath, who will face Dolph Ziggler at the PPV.

#1 The Hacker

The Hacker hasn't been seen on SmackDown or WWE television for quite some time

This is one mystery that WWE haven't put a lid on yet. The Hacker, who played a part in the Mandy Rose-Otis-Dolph Ziggler-Sonya Deville storyline, has vanished from WWE television for quite a while.

The Hacker's last post on social media was in the last week of May, and hasn't been shown on SmackDown as well.

One Superstar who was linked closely with the hacker storyline and was reportedly the man behind the glitches on SmackDown was Mustafa Ali. Ali was rumored to have been moved to RAW from SmackDown, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

It will be interesting to see if WWE brings back The Hacker at Extreme Rules, to play a part in a storyline. He could reveal a secret, as he did in the love triangle storyline on SmackDown, or even reveal his own identity.

WWE have to reveal to fans who The Hacker is and continue that storyline as it looked promising. Bringing it back at Extreme Rules could be a way to add some spice to the PPV and get fans talking about the show.
