5 superstars WWE need to push this month (May 2019)

Are these superstars in dire need of a push in May?
Are these superstars in dire need of a push in May?

The one advantage WWE has over so many other wrestling promotions in the world is the depth of their rosters, as the Raw, SmackDown Live, 205 Live, and NXT rosters are completely stacked with superstars that can carry the show if given the chance.

Wrestling bookers know the importance of having a stacked roster because injuries or contractual disputes between the company and their top wrestlers wouldn't really affect their product, because there is always someone waiting to fill that spot.

Just look at Dean Ambrose's supposed departure from the company, while at first, it seemed like Ambrose's absence would cause problems for the company in terms of finding wrestlers to fill his place, it certainly has not done much damage, as the company has the talent to cover that vacant spot.

However, with all the opportunities WWE presents to their stars, there is still a whole host of wrestlers left without a proper place in the grand scheme of things. So we look at the stars WWE needs to consider pushing in May, as taking things one step at a time seems like a solid plan in making the WWE roster relevant.

#1 Andrade

It's now or never
It's now or never

It is truly now or never for the former NXT Champion, as when Andrade first debuted on the main roster back in 2018 many were thoroughly convinced he would fall into obscurity, as the SmackDown Live roster was so deep it is easy for the most prominent stars to get left behind. But rumors had circulated that Vince McMahon himself saw potential in Andrade and would give him the chance to shine.

For reference, that rumor first surfaced about six months ago, and WWE has done absolutely nothing with 'El Idolo' in that time, and while Andrade's feud with Rey Mysterio felt like a throwback to the ruthless aggression era SmackDown, it really led nowhere. As we got the white-hot build, awesome matches, but no real conclusion.

That is exactly what Andrade needs right now, he needs his conclusion, as a conclusion in his character arc of being the arrogant youngster who is better than most would like to give him credit for, needs to be reached.

In May WWE needs to turn a new leaf with this man, as we need to see a transition from cocky upstart to a genuine main event heel. At Money in the Bank, WWE probably has their best chance to accomplish this feat, as Andrade walking away with the briefcase would be a decision most would take with open arms.

#2 Robert Roode

Just give the fans the Roode they loved in NXT and things will work out to perfection
Just give the fans the Roode they loved in NXT and things will work out to perfection

The day Bobby Roode graced NXT fans with his presence was the day everyone knew the TNA man was going to be a hit in the WWE, as Roode's first promo gave the WWE faithful so many clues on how Triple H was going to handle his character.

Instead of giving us the same cut and dry babyface we are so used to seeing inside a WWE ring, Roode was cocky, arrogant, and unapologetically authentic with his words, which made his character feel like an extension of the talented man.

But on the main roster, Roode had to endure being a pathetic babyface for two years because the creative team thought the popularity of his theme song meant he was going to be a successful babyface, however, thankfully the higher-ups realized their errors with Roode and rebranded him as Robert Roode.

Sporting a glorious mustache, his lovable cocky attitude and a winning intent that has been missing for far too long, it seems like if WWE gives Roode the keys to his destiny, he will most likely become the top heel on Raw.

This month, that seems like the case, as WWE needs to make Roode more than a mid-card threat, but send him to the main event, as that would be a breath of fresh air, seeing Raw's top title being contested between a heel that gives a damn about being champion and a babyface that is conflicted due to his heels antics. This could be gold, but only if WWE lets Roode loose.

#3 Drew McIntyre

Give this man the title
Give this man the title

The Universal Title has been in terrible hands over the last few years, from being thrown around part-timers who only held the title for a hefty paycheck to being vacated due to its holders being injured, WWE really needs to put the title in the hands of someone that can give it a chance at gaining some respect from the WWE Universe.

And while Seth Rollins is a fantastic wrestler, let's be honest here, babyface Rollins is a watered down version of his heel persona, and Rollins' Money in the Bank opponent, AJ Styles, doesn't need another World Title reign to stay relevant. So, if there is one man that can bring prestige to the belt at this very moment, then it's Drew McIntyre.

Mcintyre is the future of Raw, and while we have heard about his strength, in-ring ability, and intense promo skills, the one thing no one has really touched on is his believability factor, as this is a man that can walk the talk.

When people look at McIntyre, they believe he can be the top guy in any wrestling promotion, from the way he carries himself down the ramp, to the way he handles his business in the ring or anywhere else, its the little things that this man gets right, which is why WWE needs to give him a chance to succeed.

Earlier, Andrade was pegged for a Money in the Bank match win, and if that doesn't work out in WWE's plans, then McIntyre is the only other alternative, as, after his terrible loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, WWE needs to wake up and realize that this heel needs to take over the reins on Raw.

#4 Sami Zayn

Zayn is right
Zayn is right

Everything Sami Zayn has said ever since he returned is absolutely correct. Many tend to disagree with the truth, moreover, considering that Zayn is probably a mouthpiece for Vince McMahon to voice his frustrations with the WWE Universe, it gets harder for fans to accept the reality of the situation.

Fans are fickle, it's the truth, we bash McMahon for not pushing stars, for giving us repetitive champions, boring main events that aren't worth the WWE Network fee, and when the creative does give us something fresh, then it's not exactly what we wanted.

It's a hard pill WWE fans have to swallow, but that is the direction our fanbase has been moving in, WWE doesn't know what to give us at times because the fanbase itself doesn't know exactly what they want, so, where do we go from here, how do we meet in the middle?

Well, that's for Sami himself to say, as it seems like WWE has struck gold here with Zayn - his promo style, the words he spews with conviction, and his motivation all feel warranted and real, which is why this is a gimmick (if you want to call it that) that needs to have a fire lit underneath it.

#5 Buddy Murphy

Buddy Murphy might sound like some nerd from daytime television, but here in WWE, this man is tough
Buddy Murphy might sound like some nerd from daytime television, but here in WWE, this man is tough

Buddy Murphy - few in the WWE Universe know exactly who this man is, and even if you are one of the few that didn't have the chance to witness the work Buddy has done on 205 Live, there is a good chance you might have encountered some of his classic bouts with Mustafa Ali or Cedric Alexander on YouTube at some point. Therefore, if you were amazed at those moments, there is a whole lot more to come.

Murphy is an outstanding talent that could very well be the next Seth Rollins, and while it's too early to call another superstar the next Seth Rollins, he could succeed if he was booked in the same fashion WWE handled a young Rollins.

If WWE gives him the Seth Rollins treatment, which would see him surrounded by the top dogs in the industry while he builds up his credibility as a heel that can hold his own with the best, we could be witnessing the making of the next WWE Champion.

Yeah, Murphy is that good, ask anyone that has followed his career from NXT to the land of the cruiserweights, and they will tell you that he is flawless inside the ring. But if there is one thing WWE could improve upon, it's his character. Therefore, this is the month to do so, as this is a talent that just can't go wasted, WWE can't let that happen.
