5 things we didn't expect to see at WWE Crown Jewel

Crown Jewel was full of surprises
Crown Jewel was full of surprises

WWE Crown Jewel is now in the books and fans are still talking about what went down in the unforgettable night. We all have our own thoughts and opinions about the show, whether it's positive or negative. While many were happy with the show, others believe it was as bad as they expected it to be. The show was packed with lots of action and the crowds were full of energy throughout the entire show.

Even though it was not one of the best PPVs of the year, there were still some matches that we found quite exciting and enjoyable. The event went through so much criticism that many thought WWE would eventually cancel it or postpone it to another venue.

Former WWE Champions Daniel Bryan and John Cena chose not to attend the event and were eventually pulled out. Even though the event was heavily booked by WWE, the first-ever all-women PPV WWE Evolution was believed to be the better show by many even though it was badly booked by the company.

WWE still managed to keep us surprised at disappointed with some of the things that went down on Crown Jewel that many of us didn't expect at all.

#5 Dolph Ziggler pins Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle is a WWE Hall of Famer. He is also a former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion. He has headlined WrestleMania and several PPVs multiple times in his WWE career. It was absolutely unexpected for him to lose so easily to Dolph Ziggler. He was one of the favourites to win the World Cup tournament and to be acknowledged as "The best in the world."

In the first round of the tournament, Dolph Ziggler locked Angle in a sleeper, only for the ‘Master of the Ankle Lock’ to break free and hit Ziggler with a German Suplex. Angle rolled back the years and followed it up with his finisher the Angle Slam, but Ziggler kicked out at the last second.

In the end, Ziggler hit Angle with a Zig-Zag and managed to pin him for the 3-count. It was a huge win for Dolph Ziggler, who went on to the next round. His win over Angle was probably his biggest non-title victory in his entire wrestling career.

'The Immortal' Hulk Hogan made his return in the opening segment of WWE Crown Jewel and was introduced as the host of the show. Although this is not news to everyone, a lot of people were still shocked to see 'The Hulkster' make his return at the event. Hulk Hogan hasn't been on WWE TV for a while so it was quite exciting to see him back.

Hogan looked happy to be back and he even took to Twitter and reacted to his return by sending out the below tweet:

It remains to be seen what's next for Hogan in WWE. Many consider him to be the biggest wrestling star of his time and one of the greatest of all time. With him and WWE coming into some sort of an agreement, it's safe to say that this won't be the last time we will see Hulkamania in a WWE ring.

#3 Shane McMahon wins the WWE World Cup

Shane McMahon is the winner of the WWE World Cup. After a gruelling tournament between some of WWE’s best Superstars from Raw and Smackdown Live, the Commissioner of the blue brand walked out of Crown Jewel with the trophy.

The final was set to be Miz versus Dolph Ziggler, which was an odd choice, to begin with. The Miz seemed to be portrayed as a babyface, stating that he could compete in the match and had never been injured. This caused Shane to enter himself in the finals of the tournament after The Miz couldn’t compete.

McMahon took the win after hitting the Coast to Coast on Ziggler in the corner. Shane was officially referred to as the ‘Best in the World’ by WWE following the win and he celebrated around the ring with the trophy. It was a very odd end to the tournament, completely unexpected.

#2 DX defeats The Brothers of Destruction

D-Generation X faced The Brothers of Destruction at WWE Crown Jewel for the first time ever. These are two iconic teams from the Attitude Era, an era that they were part of from the beginning till the end.

All of these men have faced each other one-on-one several times in the past. This feud came after Triple H defeated The Undertaker at WWE Super-Show Down in Melbourne, Australia. All four men embraced in the ring before Kane and The Undertaker laid waste to DX.

The score was settled at Crown Jewel when DX defeated The Brothers of Destruction in a match that saw the in-ring return of WWE Hall of Famer 'The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels. Many fans didn't expect DX to win the match since The Undertaker already lost to Triple H the previous month at SSD.

#1 Brock Lesnar squashes Braun Strowman to win the Universal Championship

The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar defeated Braun Strowman in a squash match to become the new and first-ever 2-time Universal Champion. Although it was a shocking victory, it's not really a big surprise when you look at it from the WWE's perspective.

Lesnar has held the title for 504 days in his first reign. Considering his status as a part-timer, Lesnar has defended the title only a few times.

Of all the superstars on Raw, Brock Lesnar is the last person who should've won the title. The title should be in the hands of a fighting champion and someone who will show up on Raw every week. Lesnar is currently scheduled to face AJ Styles at Survivor Series, but it won't be for the Universal Championship.

No one is happy with Lesnar holding the title once again, because right now the next time we could expect to see him defend the title will probably be at the Royal Rumble next year or at WrestleMania 35.
