The WWE Universe needs these tag teams back in the WWE!

Tag team wrestling is one of the most exciting forms of professional wrestling that is thriving all over the world -- including NXT -- but not on the WWE's main roster. It just doesn't make any sort of sense. This is the strongest the WWE's tag team division has been in years, but there seems to be something missing.

Yes, things have improved massively since last year with the resurgence of the Usos, the return of the Hardy Boyz, the domination of the New Day, and the surprise coupling of Sheamus and Cesaro, as well as the reunification of estranged Shield brothers Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

But, compare that to the magic that has been woven in NXT with the likes of the Authors of Pain, The Revival, SanItY, and #DiY, and there is no comparison between the main roster and the developmental roster which has been tearing the house down.

Perhaps what the main roster really needs in order to get add some zing to proceedings is for the return of some long-lost tag teams which will really spice things up.

So, without any further ado, here is our list of five tag teams we would love to see back in the WWE:

#5 Paul London and Brian Kendrick

Ahh, the good ol' days
Ahh, the good ol' days

While The Brian Kendrick made a pseudo-successful return to the WWE as a part of the revamped WWE Cruiserweight Division, it was nothing like the success he enjoyed during his run years ago with the WWE as a tag team partner of Paul London.

The high-flying duo are one of the most underrated tag teams of all-time and they tore the house down on a regular basis during the mid-2000s.

They would be perfect in today's high-octane wrestling style and would be the perfect nostalgia act to get some butts in seats and give fans some fast-paced action.

#4 The Dudley Boyz

The very best of all-time

The only reason they rank as low as number four is because of how old they are, but I have zero doubts that the Dudley Boyz would be welcomed back with open arms by the WWE Universe should Bubba Ray and D-Von ever choose to reform their legendary partnership.

It looks unlikely, considering that Bubba is making a name for himself as a strong singles competitor on the indie circuit, while D-Von has retreated to a backstage role with the WWE.

Still, we hold out hopes that we can see the duo reunited one final time before they call it quits for good.

Maybe another epic match with The Hardyz before sailing off into the sunset? That would be quite the thing indeed.

#3 The World's Greatest Tag Team

They were that damn good
They were that damn good

Shelton Benjamin just teamed up with Chad Gable upon his long-awaited return to the WWE but that is not a replacement for The World's Greatest Tag Team.

Benjamin and Charlie Hass were massively underrated and at one point they could very well lay claim to the title of being the very best tag team in the world. Starting off as Kurt Angle's cohorts in Team Angle, their technical and fast-paced offense set pulses racing, and the two young men quickly became the talk of the town.

But, it was their run as the heelish World's Greatest Tag Team that really established them as a force to be reckoned with and you would think that they can make a more than successful run as a couple of babyface veterans even today.

#2 The New Age Outlaws

They've got two words for ya...
They've got two words for ya...

Just let me dream, okay?! Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were by far one of the coolest tag teams during the 1990s and 2000s and it would be a huge throwback to an amazing time in tag team wrestling if the pair were to return one final time for one final run with the WWE Tag Team Championships on either Monday Night Raw.

Of course, this looks highly unlikely considering Road Dogg is now a member of the WWE's creative team and that Billy Gunn is now wrestling in New Japan Pro Wrestling after being fired from his job as a trainer in the WWE Performance Centre due to Wellness Policy violations.

But, still, a man can hope and dream for some childhood heroes to have one final hurrah. And, if you're not down with that, I got two words for ya...

#1 The Young Bucks

Amongst the finest in the world today
Amongst the finest in the world today

The Young Bucks are one the hottest tag teams on the planet today. The Young Bucks also never got a fair shot in the WWE during their early years in the business. This is the perfect time to bring the brothers Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson into the company.

They would be an asset to any and every professional wrestling promotion as evidenced by their work in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling and with the WWE's tag team ranks in need of a shot in the arm, this could very well be just what the doctor ordered.

While the other entries on this list were ones of nostalgia, this is one to solidly build for the future of the company's Tag Team Division.
