At WrestleMania 33, The Hardy Boyz finally made their long awaited return to World Wrestling Entertainment, and it’s fair to say that it was one of the highlights of the night. Matt and Jeff have been making an impact all over the globe for well over a year now since transforming into their Broken alter egos, and now they’re finally back where they belong.
So far things have gone pretty well, but there’s always room for improvement and we’ve picked up on a few things that we’d like the brothers to change. They aren’t wide scale changes, but they would certainly make their presence on the weekly programming even more enjoyable for fans.
Either way, whether they mix things up or not, they deserve a huge amount of respect for how they’ve been able to revitalise their careers in the last few years. After all, both guys seemed dead and buried what with the numerous substance problems they’ve had throughout their careers – but somehow they’ve managed to pull yet another rabbit out of the hat.
So with that in mind, and at the threat of being deleted by Matt if he ever stumbles across this, here are five things The Hardy Boyz need to change in WWE.
Broken
The Broken Hardys, without a doubt, were the best gimmick in all of professional wrestling last year and for the first few months of 2017. Starting off in their backyard back in North Carolina, the brothers managed to reinvent themselves in a way that nobody was anticipating, and that nobody could’ve seen becoming such a resounding success.
Alas, they managed it, but for some reason, they’re back to being the regular old Hardy Boyz in WWE. There’s not necessarily anything wrong with that, but a return to their Broken ways is sorely required if they’re going to get to that next level during this run with the company. Well, for one of the two men that is...
We all know this needs to happen.
Split them up
The Broken gimmick starts and ends with Matt Hardy, and as such, he needs to be given the chance to flourish on his own. Of course, there’s no guarantee of success especially when you consider how WWE have handled characters like this in the past, but the possibilities moving forward truly would be endless.
Jeff needs to spread his wings as the Charismatic Engima, because that’s where he’s going to thrive. His last run in WWE proved that he can draw some serious money under that moniker, and we’re never going to know whether or not Matt can make it on his own unless they run the break-up angle between the two.

Jeff’s exhaustion
Many reports coming out of WrestleMania 33 suggested that Jeff Hardy was in a lot of pain following the ladder match against The Young Bucks at Supercard of Honor, and that was before he put himself through even more torture at the Citrus Bowl. Since then the Hardyz have been going non-stop as Tag Team Champions, and it seems to be taking it’s toll on the former WWE Champion.
Not only has Jeff fallen over twice on the house show circuit, but he’s also looking extremely tired and worn out during the majority of his appearances. In order to preserve him for a big run in the upper midcard, have Matt write him off television for a few weeks before making his triumphant return.
That way he’ll be re-energised, revitalised and will be better prepared for the hectic schedule.
This is a big one.
Overexposure
Whilst it’s great to see The Hardys back on a weekly basis, the actual in-ring work isn’t what it used to be which is to be expected given their advanced ages. However, it does detract from the special feeling they originally produced at WrestleMania – and Matt, in particular, is being exposed for the average nature of his in-ring work nowadays.
The best part about Broken Matt is his character, so they need to build on that by only having him perform when it’s absolutely necessary. Soak up the ‘delete’ chants, bleed all the merch money you can out of it and have Matt cut promos that can only be rivalled by the likes of Bray Wyatt.
The brand split is there for a reason.
Jeff to SmackDown Live
Speaking of Bray Wyatt, we want to see him face off against Matt Hardy and we want it now. In addition to this, we also want to see Jeff Hardy lead the way on SmackDown Live for the new crop of talent that the blue brand has over there. Can you see where we’re going with this?
Sending Jeff over to team blue will be beneficial for everyone, as it separates the brothers for a potential final run together down the road. Plus, it makes the two acts feel incredibly fresh and allows for them both to shine under two completely different spotlights.
It would be unique and interesting to see and it would certainly be best for business.
