5 things WWE fans will never understand about Vince McMahon

A more polarising figure than we think
A more polarising figure than we think

Vince McMahon is obviously the single most important person in the pro wrestling business. For the last few decades, he has essentially monopolised the pro wrestling industry, minus a few string of years where competition existed.

Today, wrestling fans know more than ever about the product and all the backstage happenings. As a result, we tend to take for granted the professionals who are running it and act as though we know it all, when in reality, we don't know anything close to what we should.

Vince McMahon is obviously one person who has been subject to a lot of criticism, particularly in 2019 when the WWE product went on a downward slope. You always hear criticism about him being "out of touch" and him being the reason behind a poor WWE product.

It is true that he has a final say, but we shouldn't pretend like we understand Vince McMahon and the way he works and why he does what he does. Here are a few things that we as WWE fans will never fully understand about him.

#5. He's the hardest working person in the world

Is there a man on the planet who works harder than him?
Is there a man on the planet who works harder than him?

One thing that WWE fans need to understand is that Vince McMahon doesn't really view WWE as "work". He is constantly working and gets a few hours of sleep a day at most, but that's simply the way he operates.

Jake "The Snake" Roberts and many others have stated that there isn't a single man in the world who works harder than McMahon does. To achieve that level of success that he has while still maintaining that physical shape requires an insane amount of work that the average person is simply not capable of.

#4. Every decision he makes has multiple things taken into account

Talking more from a creative viewpoint, we tend to be extremely critical of Vince McMahon. Now we're not saying that the criticism is baseless, but what we do need to realize is that when Vince McMahon takes any decision, there are so many different factors to take into account that we have no idea about.

For example, a storyline idea might be axed because it might annoy a sponsor, it might affect action figure sales in another part of the world, it could offend certain people, the share holders may not like it, etc.

Freddie Prinze Jr., the actor and former WWE creative writer, did defend Vince McMahon on this front, stating that people have no idea as to what he needs to take into account so many different things for the business.

#3. WWE is a business and he needs to run it like one

It's all about the money
It's all about the money

This is something that WWE fans often forget. WWE, at the end of the day - is a business. The ultimate objective of this business is to make as much money as possible. In order to do that, WWE may need to make decisions that the hardcore audience may not like and decisions that will ultimately end up profitable for the company.

WWE is often put under scrutiny by fans but they need to realize that when it's all said and done, it's the dollars that matter and how they manage to make it. Some way or the other, WWE manages to become increasingly profitable by the year.

Decisions that fans didn't like - for example - WWE going PG turned out to be one of the best business decisions that they had taken in years.

Vince McMahon is obviously the go-to guy in WWE and the one who makes all the final decisions. It's a well-known fact that Vince McMahon is a micromanager-type of personality. If you're not aware, micromanagement is when somebody is actively involved in each and every intricate aspect of something.

For example, Vince McMahon is involved in every single aspect of WWE, from business decisions to the creative front and more. One of the reasons for a bit of creative disarray is the fact that McMahon has his hands on absolutely everything.

The reason for him being that way is how he was raised and watching his father in his early years with WWWF. It was probably something that he grew into and as he grew the business, he handled every single aspects. At that age, old habits are unlikely to stop.

#1. He genuinely tries to keep up with the times

Vince McMahon claims he's
Vince McMahon claims he's "hip"

Vince McMahon has always been criticised for being old and out of touch, particularly in the last few years. While we will admit that there is some truth to it, the reality is that he does genuinely try his best to keep up with the times.

Jim Ross described WWE as a company that constantly wants to grow younger and Vince McMahon does everything he can to try and keep the company young, hip and relevant. Whether or not he succeeds is a different story, but as we know, it doesn't always work that way.

When someone is 70+, it's harder to keep up with the times and harder to change the way you are and the way you think. However, it's not that Vince McMahon has one set way of thinking. He does try to keep up with the times - he's just not always successful at it.
