5 Things WWE got right on this week’s RAW (September 23, 2019)

Fans expect nonstop action from the top stars every week

WWE's flagship show brought us some incredibly entertaining matches during its season finale. While we expected the Fatal 5-Way match to headline the show, RAW's opening segment gave us an even bigger headliner in Braun Strowman vs Universal Champion Seth Rollins.

RAW's Women's Division also delivered a couple of good matches and we saw the very best in female wrestling shine in the spotlight.

RAW's tag team division was also not far behind in delivering some great action, confirming that many teams in the flagship brand’s locker room are worthy of championship opportunities.

Overall, WWE delivered a quality show this week and that's worth examining further. Join us as we look at the five things the company got just right on this week’s episode of RAW.

#1 Gave The Viking Raiders some real competition

With a team like The Viking Raiders on the main roster, it's a surprise that Erick and Ivar haven’t entered the RAW Tag Team Championship picture yet.

Both men have been fighting local competition and jobbers in squash matches to display their strength and sheer dominance, but the repetitive nature of the matches was getting stale real quick.

The Viking Raiders seem to have finally found some real competition in The O.C., and the two teams had a match on this week’s RAW. Both teams were able to display their strengths in the ring and perform fantastic spots, with The Viking Raiders managing to score their biggest win on the main roster.

Creative finally got the booking right in case of The Viking Raiders, who should be on their way to paving a path to the top of the RAW tag team division. It shouldn't be long before the duo can claim WWE tag team gold.

#2 Booked a good match between Banks and Cross

While fans have been excited to see Ricochet rise to the top of the main card since his move from NXT to the main roster, Nikki Cross hasn’t been too far behind. She was a slow starter on the main roster, but not only did she manage to forge a great partnership with Alexa Bliss, but the duo also won the RAW Women’s Tag Team Championships.

This week on RAW, Cross managed to get another big one-on-one match and this time against the #1 contender for the RAW Women’s Championship, Sasha Banks.

Last week, Cross did a great job in her tag team match against Bayley and Banks. This was despite Bliss getting injured and Cross being left to fight alone. This week, Cross outdid herself once again by giving Banks everything she could handle.

Despite coming up just short in her efforts against Sasha Banks, Cross stood toe to toe with one of WWE's best Superstars. This will certainly help Cross get much further in her career and she should soon challenge for a top singles championship.

#3 Crowned Rey Mysterio the #1 Contender for the Universal Championship

We saw it coming, and WWE did not disappoint us.

One of the biggest matches on this week’s RAW featured United States Champion AJ Styles, Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, RAW Tag Team Champion Robert Roode, Rey Mysterio, and Ricochet go head to head for the number one contender’s spot. The winner would face Seth Rollins for his Universal Championship next week on RAW's season premier.

The Fatal 5-Way Elimination Match had an incredible amount of action. In the end, Rey Mysterio was declared the winner.

While Nakamura pinning Ricochet, and Roode taking out AJ Styles were both a bit questionable, the final result was near perfection. Rey Mysterio once again earned the opportunity to rise to the very top of RAW, where he will face Seth Rollins for the right to be called the Red Brand's top babyface.

With Mysterio winning and progressing to the Universal Championship match, he has managed to unlock a world of opportunities for himself and his son Dominic. Those should be revealed in the near future.

#4 Allowed Chad Gable vs. Baron Corbin to end in a disqualification

Last week on RAW, Baron Corbin defeated Chad Gable in the King of the Ring tournament final to become King Corbin. The following night on SmackDown, Gable displayed his anger and attacked Corbin during his coronation ceremony.

This week’s RAW saw the two men compete against each other in a rematch from last week. Creative did the right thing by giving the two Superstars another bout on a televised show, as the two showed great chemistry in last week's memorable match.

The two WWE Superstars gave the WWE Universe yet another great match last night on RAW. Creative allowed the bout to end in disqualification, with Chad Gable scoring the win after Corbin attacked him with his scepter to get out of the ankle lock.

The disqualification ending opens up more possibilities for the future, and WWE could take this booking into Hell in a Cell where fans can look forward to the continuation of this great feud.

#5 Gave fans a worthy 24/7 Champion

WWE booked no championship matches on this week’s RAW, but fans still managed to get a huge title change during the night.

With the 24/7 Championship drama spilling into the arena, champion R-Truth and his associate Carmella rushed around trying to avoid several WWE Superstars. In the midst of chaos, Carmella showed her frustration over the daily grind of eluding other Superstars and begged for a momentary break.

With the antics proving as a distraction, Carmella rolled R-Truth up and pinned him to become the new 24/7 Champion. Instead of being upset with Carmella, Truth seemed proud of what she did and helped her get out of the arena without losing her title.

Fans have been waiting for the moment Carmella would turn on Truth and take the title away from him, but instead she became a first time 24/7 Champion without having to turn on her long time partner.Thankfully the highly entertaining tandem will stay together, at least for the foreseeable future.

We now hope creative will keep the 24/7 Championship on Carmella for some time and allow R-Truth to protect her, reversing their roles to give fans more comedy gold.
