5 things WWE can do to catch fans off guard

What can WWE do to make fans happy again?
What can WWE do to make fans happy again?

WWE has been known to hit a snag in their programming from time to time and while they usually rebound within a week or so, you have to wonder how exactly they plan to bounce back this time? In fact, between start and stop pushes for The Fiend, Seth Rollins remaining as champion, and the company getting cold feet regarding certain kinds of content, one has to wonder what they have planned next?

Of course, the company will find a way to rebound in one way or another and will come back stronger than ever, but it's all about how they get to that point. Furthermore, its also about making sure they don't make the same mistakes that got them into the mess in the first place, which could prove challenging.

With that being said and the company starting to get back into their stride, here are five things they need to do to catch fans off guard. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and tell us what you want to see WWE do going forward.

#5 Get back to reality-bending storylines

Ronda Rousey versus Becky Lynch is a perfect example of reality-bending storytelling.
Ronda Rousey versus Becky Lynch is a perfect example of reality-bending storytelling.

WWE needs to get back to reality-bending storylines.

They were a mainstay in the company during Ronda Rousey's run as Raw Women's champion and gave the product an edge to it. The reason for this is because no one knew what was real and what wasn't, which helped immerse fans into the storyline

Another example of this is the ongoing love triangle between Bobby Lashley, Rusev and Lana, but one has to wonder why WWE doesn't go to this mode of storytelling more often? If the company is capable of telling well thought out stories like Rousey versus Lynch, and KofiMania, why is that not the exception and not the norm?

In all honesty, WWE is at its best when it is blurring the lines between fiction and reality, which is something that should become more of a focus. Not only will this allow fans to be enthralled in the ongoing storylines, but it also makes them want to come back to the product on a more consistent basis.

#4 Put Roman Reigns in the title picture

Its time for Roman Reigns to be WWE Champion again!
Its time for Roman Reigns to be WWE Champion again!

Roman Reigns is so over right now, that he could walk into the WWE Title picture tomorrow and not even look a bit out of place. The fans would come unglued as soon as the announcement was made and they would be talking all week about another title reign for The Big Dog.

Sure, there will be a couple of members from the IWC or even fans of other Superstars that find the move infuriating, but they are simply just the minority now. The reality is that everyone wants to see Reigns succeed and whether that is due to his battle with cancer or WWE booking his character better, it's going to be a move that's best for business.

There is no reason for WWE to hold off on this anymore. The pieces are in place, the fans are behind Reigns in almost unheard of numbers and the underdog storyline is there just waiting to be told. Keep in mind this isn't even mentioning how big of a publicity move it would be for WWE, especially if Reigns goes one on one with Cain Velasquez, which could prove very lucrative.

#3 Get The Universal title off Seth Rollins

Is it time for Seth Rollins to lose the Universal Championship?
Is it time for Seth Rollins to lose the Universal Championship?

Is it time to take the Universal Championship off of Seth Rollins?

On one hand, he is arguably one of the most popular Superstars on the entire roster and has put on great match after great match. Still, how much more mileage can the company get out of him as champion? Beyond that, how many rising Superstars are the company willing to sacrifice to keep The Beastslayer on top?

If nothing else, keeping Rollins as champion is starting to come at the expense of the product, and the Superstars that he defeats. The move has also created a sort of lull in the Universal Title picture and is honestly making fans wonder if the will ever see Rollins's reign come to an end.

Not only is that creating a sour feeling among the WWE Universe, but it also pretty much holds the Universal Title picture hostage in the process. That's why WWE needs to finally get the title off of Rollins and transition him into another role, so someone else can finally take the spotlight.

Rollins has served as a great champion and provided some pretty memorable moments in the process, but his time on top needs to finally be over. At least that way, they can transition the title to someone else, keep the title picture fresh and hopefully move Raw forward again.

#2 Focus on more mature content

Why can't WWE do more content like this?
Why can't WWE do more content like this?

WWE has a funny little habit of going over the top at points in their storytelling and then not following up on it for one reason or another. Now that doesn't mean every single moment of programming needs to be devoted to Attitude Era shenanigans and crude sex appeal, but at least have something that satisfies that audience.

Unfortunately for The WWE Universe, the company has been pretty hot and cold with providing mature content and it looks like that will continue to be the case. Sure, one could argue they are doing some groundbreaking content with Maria Kanellis and the storyline between Lana and Bobby Lashley, but those are the exception to the rule.

What WWE needs to do is start devoting a larger amount of time to more mature content. Whether that content is a controversial marriage, a Superstar attacking someone's family, or even Vince McMahon going on another power trip, there are a variety of options that can easily satisfy this part of the fan base.

In the end, mature content should never be the full focus of WWE, especially since we are decades removed from The Attitude Era, but they still need to give something to satisfy that portion of the base. Something bold. Something brash and something that will have them hanging on the edge of their seats again.

#1 Dream encounter between Undertaker and Sting

What happens when Undertaker and Sting finally collide?
What happens when Undertaker and Sting finally collide?

The WWE Universe has been pining to see The Undertaker and Sting share the squared circle in some capacity for years now, but the company has still not pulled the trigger on doing it. Some fans even thought the season premiere of SmackDown on Fox would be where the historic showdown would take place and were upset when it didn't happen.

That's exactly why the company needs to flip the script and finally pull off this dream encounter that fans have been waiting for. Not only will the move work to restore The WWE Universe's faith in the product over the long term, but it is also arguably one of those moments that reminds you why pro wrestling is so amazing to watch.

If The Undertaker and Sting shared a ring even for a few short minutes, the fans would come unglued. Beyond all that, they would be hanging on the two men's every word, which would only help build suspense as the segment plays out.

If nothing else, WWE needs a way to bring longtime fans back to the product in mass and this achieves that goal in spades.
