4 things WWE should do with Kofi Kingston after his title loss

What's next for Kofi Kingston?

That is a difficult question to answer after he was beaten so decisively by Brock Lesnar during the season premiere of Friday Night SmackDown, but one would have to imagine that the company has something big planned for him. If not, 'Kofimania' and his historic six months as the WWE Champion will lose its value.

With that in mind and the WWE Universe still very much captivated by Kingston as a Superstar, it only makes sense for the company to have something up their sleeve, for him. Otherwise, it would lead to one of their biggest stars falling off the face of the earth, which really isn't best for the business.

Whether that will lead to The New Day splitting up or putting Kofi Kingston into another title picture is not yet clear, but here are the four most likely options for him moving forward. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us how you would want WWE to book Kofi Kingston in the future.

#4 Keep him in the WWE Title picture

Kofi Kingston deserves another shot at the WWE Title!

Is WWE seriously not going to keep him in the title picture?

Not only is that a huge blow to Kofimania, but it also shows the direction that the company wants to go in. Unfortunately for Kingston and his fans, that direction is legitimacy and working towards that means focusing on competitors that can hang with each other in the ring.

With that being said, WWE need to reconsider this perspective and should be pulling inspirations from the multitude of underdog matches that Brock Lesnar has had with other Superstars. In fact, between his barn burner with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35, and one-offs against Daniel Bryan, Finn Balor, and AJ Styles, the underdog story is always something that excites fans.

The biggest question to ask yourself here is, "What does WWE have to lose by keeping Kingston in the title picture for the time being?"

Beyond that, couldn't they just use this as a mechanism to further the storyline between Lesnar and Velasquez? At the very least, Kingston deserves one more shot at the big prize in WWE and it would be a crime to deny him that opportunity.

#3 Turn The New Day heel

Could The New Day finally turn heel?

Could WWE do the impossible?

The company has done the impossible before and done it pretty well to some extent, but would it be going too far to turn The New Day heel? While there is an argument to be made that having the group turn on the fans would affect their support, their merchandise sales and the positivity they have managed to generate, it could also be the start of a whole new chapter for them.

Keep in mind that everything changes in WWE and that's how the product grows. Sure, they could keep The New Day as the good guys and ride out the gimmick in the mid-card somewhere before their eventual breakup, but why not flip the script and make them the bad guys?

Think about it this way. WWE have run the power of positivity into the ground. It has been done for years now and while it has been popular with fans, there's room for changes. So why not try to do something new and vibrant? Why not try to bring a new layer to a character that desperately needs it at this point?

If nothing else, this could be a great way for The New Day to swerve the fans and become one of the most dominant heel factions in WWE right now. It also paves the way for an eventual break up while also holding off on it for a little while longer until the storyline is justified.

#2 Have him join team Hogan

Should Kofi Kingston join Team, Hogan?
Should Kofi Kingston join Team, Hogan?

Kofi Kingston needs momentum after losing the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar in under ten seconds and a great way to fuel the same would be to announce him as a member of Team Hogan for Crown Jewel. In fact, amidst rumors of Seth Rollins being pulled from Team Hogan at Crown Jewel, Kingston would be a more than suitable replacement.

Maybe WWE could even add in all three New Day members for Team Hogan and force Ric Flair to solicit the services of The OC for the big match. This would allow for The New Day and The OC to continue their feud, which fans seem to be enjoying, while also using that angle to contribute to the bigger picture of the team match.

If nothing else, The New Day is a very powerful entity of positivity and it would be a shame for them to get lost in the shuffle. Furthermore, it would be disappointing to watch Kingston fade from the limelight after the white-hot run he was on since winning the belt at WrestleMania 34. This means WWE need to find a way to give him a high profile spot again and that could all start with putting him in the Hogan versus Flair saga.

#1 Put him in the IC title picture

Shinsuke Nakamura would be a good opponent for Kofi Kingston.
Shinsuke Nakamura would be a good opponent for Kofi Kingston.

Why not go after the Intercontinental title?

The move would be a great way to seamlessly transition Kofi Kingston out of the main title picture and would offer a pretty interesting matchup between him and Shinsuke Nakamura. Of course, this would obviously be a step down from chasing the WWE Championship. But it is at least a soft place to land and offers possibilities for the future.

The New Day are a huge attraction and that is something that the mid-card of each show has been lacking lately. With that being said, The New Day have one of the most popular gimmicks in all of WWE right now. So why not use their popularity to prop up the mid-card?

Furthermore, Nakamura has lacked a suitable opponent over the last couple of weeks, which makes it all the more reason for Kingston to be the one to challenge him. Again, not the most high profile spot for Kingston, but it's a transition until the company can figure out what else to do with The New Day.

In the end, Nakamura versus Kingston would be an interesting showcase of their versatile moveset and could create some much-needed magic in the ring.
