5 things WWE subtly told us on RAW: Female Superstar pins male champion, Top RAW star getting long-awaited push? (September 23rd, 2019)

Surreal

WWE RAW concludednd while it wasn't as strong an episode as last week, it certainly delivered in a big way when it came to the main event. The primary objective was to add more hype to the Hell in a Cell 2019 main event and that's exactly what happened.

This episode of RAW took a bunch of twists and turns and ended with Braun Strowman getting added to The Fiend's victim list. That's right. The main event was a rematch of Clash of Champions 2019, minus the title being on the line.

The women's division took a step forward as well and the match between Sasha Banks and Nikki Cross was a long, but really good bout. Chad Gable and Baron Corbin had yet another good match and this week had some really good matches as a whole.

Atleast they have that going for them and as we approach the season prpremieref RAW next week, here are a few things WWE subtly told us on RAW this week!

#5 Chad Gable & King Corbin's feud will continue to Hell in a Cell

King Corbin before the match
King Corbin before the match

Chad Gable and Baron Corbin had a rematch from last week's King of the Ring final. They clearly have good chemistry together because they were able to pull off yet another incredible match.

Once again, Gable came very close to beating Corbin and this time around, he not only countered The End of Days, but he got the ankle lock secured, with Corbin almost certainly about to tap out.

He desperately used his scepter to attack Gable, DQing himself in the process. What seems clear is that WWE is going to ruin this match back at Hell in a Cell 2019. It's going to be a good one!

#4 Rey Mysterio and Ricochet could have a big program down the line

Rey Mysterio is the new #1 contender to the Universal Championship
Rey Mysterio is the new #1 contender to the Universal Championship

For the first time since his return last year, Rey Mysterio will be challenging for the World Championship. He finally earned his spot after going through a "Murderers Row" so to speak - in a match comprising of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Ricochet, Robert Roode and himself.

It was a great match which Mysterio dedicated to Dominick and the right person went over since he has just about been gaining momentum back.

Firstly, it's good to see Mysterio getting the respect he deserves. Even though the story is about him being the aging veteran, the reality of what we see is that Mysterio is far from that.

He can still go like it's 15 years ago and he remains one of the most unbelievable in-ring talents of all time. There was one particularly interesting spot that got a big pop - his brief standoff with Ricochet.

It was instantly acknowledged as a big dream match and they only interacted briefly before they were separated. It seems clear that WWE was testing the waters for a potential program between the two high-flying superstars.

#3 Nikki Cross' stock has grown immensely

Nikki Cross vs Sasha Banks

Firstly, it's great that Nikki Cross has been getting so much screentime in 2019. From being one of the most neglected Superstars on the roster, she has become a regular feature of weekly TV and has successfully captured the Women's Tag Team Championship along with Alexa Bliss.

For one, if you notice, she does most of the heavy lifting for her team. It seems that the WWE Universe is acknowledging her work rate and she has been getting increasingly good reactions over the last few weeks.

This week, she was in a featured bout against RAW Women's title No. 1 contender Sasha Banks. While Banks was always going to win the bout, it was a brilliantly crafted match because Cross looked good even in defeat. Hopefully, they feature her in more matches and she can get over on her own.

There's no doubt that Alexa Bliss' star presence has helped her immensely, but she's finding her own footing now and things are looking great for her.

#2 The 24/7 title picture is going to take a whole new turn

Time for a new side to the story!
Time for a new side to the story!

The 24/7 Championship, in the last few months, has been centered around R-Truth and Drake Maverick. Obviously, they were the best choices to revolve it around because they're the two funniest characters in WWE.

Carmella's addition as a side character in the story made it all the better and this week, there was a whole new twist. Carmella stopped the people chasing Truth for the title and revealed that she was sick and tired of the four-month long chase.

She would then reveal it to be one big ploy as Mella landed a small package pin on R-Truth, winning the 24/7 title for the first time herself.

The moment she did capture it, R-Truth wasn't even mad. He endorsed her and raised her hand, only for both of them to immediately find the women's locker room chasing them. And thus, a new chase begins. Carmella will be on R-Truth's back as he runs away, but this time, it will be the women chasing the title.

We look forward to the female side of the 24/7 title chase!

#1 Redemption for Roode?

Robert Roode came close to being the No.1 contender for the Universal title
Robert Roode came close to being the No.1 contender for the Universal title

There were quite a few rumors recently from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE is planning to "rehab" Robert Roode, which is why he was protected last week. This week, it was backed up even more so when he came close to becoming the No. 1 contender to the Universal Championship.

He was one of the featured Superstars in the bout and he managed to eliminate AJ Styles of all people, being one of the final two with Rey Mysterio. He came close, but Mysterio managed to land the 619 and Frog Splash to secure the win for himself.

However, just like Nikki Cross, Roode's stock has grown in defeat. They are cleverly finishing matches these days on RAW and protecting Superstars as well. But what WWE subtly told us in this match is that Roode is for real and may become a Universal Championship contender sooner than we think.

If this is the rehabilitation of Robert Roode, we're all for it!
