John Cena is a name that is almost synonymous with WWE. We have seen him as the Doctor of Thuganomics, and also the Leader of Cenation but only a few people know that he was originally supposed to debut as The Prototype. The gimmick was supposed to be half-man and half-machine and he was not a big fan of it.

Similarly, there are a lot of things that only the die-hard fans of the WWE legend know. Here are 5 things you might not know about John Cena:

#5 – Make-A-Wish record holder

The WWE Universe and even those who rarely follow WWE know that Cena shares the record for most WWE Championship titles with Ric Flair. The two legends of pro-wrestling have held it 16 times in their career. Jon Stewart did try to stop it in 2015, but the leader of Cenation eventually won it one more time in 2017.

Apart from that almost unbreakable record, Cena has one in real life that is definitely going to take a lot to beat. He has fulfilled 600 Make-A-Wish requests so far and is the first celebrity ever to reach that milestone!

At the time of writing, Justin Bieber is second in the list but is far behind. The singer has fulfilled 250 wishes so far and is right now the only one who can come close to the WWE legend.

Talking about the incredible number of requests he has fulfilled, Cena told Sports Illustrated:

“I want to make sure everyone has a wonderful experience. For someone to get one wish and their wish is to hang out with you, that's the most awesome thing ever. I have great perspective of what it is and never take it for granted. I'll always try to give as much happiness as I possibly can.”

#4 – He performed despite having food poisoning and it didn't end well

John Cena's character in WWE is of someone who's fearless and faces challenges head on. However, there are a few things that you just can't control. Cena found this out the hard way.

During the tour of Canada, Cena faced Scott Steiner despite having food poisoning. The intense match saw Steiner deliver a DDT and that made things worse for the leader of Cenation.

He knew he could not keep the food in his stomach for long and made his way to the outside of the ring quietly. Cena then went under the ring to vomit but couldn't do it as 'food was coming out of every end'.

Cena revealed this incident in an interview years later and said, “Losing control of all bodily functions, intestinal and gastrointestinal in a match in Hamilton, Ontario. I had food poisoning, tried to go out there and do it, just didn't work. [It was] coming out of every end. Yeah, it was rough."

#3 – The only performer Cena has never defeated: Kevin Federline

Remember Kevin Federline? Not many do these days. Maybe even Cena has forgotten about him. But the fact remains that K-Fed remains the only WWE performer to have a 100% win record vs the 16-time champion in 1 on 1 matches.

The American rapper and fashion model rose to stardom in mid-2000s after he married Britney Spears. And Vince McMahon, for the opportunist he is, took advantage of it and used K-Fed in a storyline with Cena.

They had one match in the WWE ring and K-Fed picked up the win. Billy Gunn also has a 100% win record in televised matches but there are reports that he has been defeated by Cena in house-shows.

Rumours are that Christian is another one who has never lost to Cena but that is not true. The Canadian lost a singles match to Cena on Monday Night Raw in September, 2011.

#2 – Five Knuckle Shuffle is not what you think it is

John Cena's moves have had their names changed after WWE moved into the PG era. His finisher, FU, was renamed Attitude Adjustment while his submission move, STFU was shortened to STF with no abbreviation provided for it.

However, his signature move Five Knuckle Shuffle remained the same and is something the 16-time champion continues to use. Not many know about the origin of this but it is related to Cena's rap connection.

Five Knuckle Shuffle is slang used to describe masturbation and the meaning of this has been kept under the carpet. Not many know about this and WWE have done really well to keep this away from the kids especially.

Cena will continue using it until he retires and as it is not something that has a bad word in it, WWE might not bother changing the name.

#1 – Changed loyalties after relocating

Well, if you thought this was too personal after reading the title, it isn't. This isn't about his marriage or his broken engagement with Nikki Bella, but instead about his baseball loyalty.

Cena's grandfather (maternal) was a professional baseball player. John “Tony” Lupien played for Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies in his career but his family always stayed loyal to the Red Sox.

The 16-time champion also started out as a Boston fan but changed his favourite team to Tampa Bay Rays after he relocated to Tampa, Florida. Apart from that, he also has a soft spot for Los Angeles Dodgers and has thrown the first pitch for them.

However, in other sports, he has stayed loyal to a single team – Boston Celtics in NBA, Tottenham Hotspur in English Premier League and New England Patriots in NFL.
