The October 4 episode of SmackDown Live will be a history-making one, as the blue brand will finally make its big debut on FOX! WWE is going all the way with promoting the debut episode. On the latest edition of SmackDown Live, Kofi Kingston was confronted by none other than The Beast, Brock Lesnar, who disappeared from WWE TV after his loss to Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2019.
Lesnar hit an F5 on Kingston after the latter accepted his challenge for a WWE title match on the October 4 episode of SmackDown Live. It has been an incredibly long time since we last saw Lesnar compete in a match on the blue brand. Interestingly, there was a time when he used to be a regular on SmackDown, appearing on a weekly basis.
Let's take a stroll down memory lane and look at a bunch of things you probably forgot about Brock Lesnar's first SmackDown run.
#5 Lesnar teams up with Mr. America
The July 19, 2003 episode of SmackDown saw Brock Lesnar defending his WWE title against The World's Largest Athlete, The Big Show. The hard-fought match ended when The World's Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas) interfered and helped Big Show put Lesnar down.
Soon, Kurt Angle came out to help Lesnar, but was Chokeslammed by Big Show. Finally, Mr. America came to save the day but the numbers game caught up to him. A week later, Lesnar, Angle, and Mr. America teamed up to take on the villainous trio, in a losing effort, courtesy an interference by Vince McMahon.
The WWE Chairman brought out an unconscious Zach Gowen to distract Mr. America which was enough to give Big Show an opportunity to put the legend down and bag the victory for his team.
#4 Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar recruit Tracy
After Brock Lesnar won the WWE title at SummerSlam 2002, he kicked off a feud with The Undertaker. The two fought at Unforgiven, and later inside Hell in a Cell, where Lesnar destroyed The Deadman to retain his title. During this storyline, Lesnar and Paul Heyman recruited a woman named Tracy, who made false claims about being involved with The Undertaker in the past.
The Undertaker stated that he had never met Tracy. The angle didn't go anywhere and Tracy was soon removed from weekly TV.
#3 Brock Lesnar almost cries in the ring
At No Way Out 2004, Goldberg helped Eddie Guerrero win the WWE title against Brock Lesnar. The Beast later appeared on SmackDown, looking distraught and upset. He made his way to the ring slowly, and cut a promo on what had happened at the PPV.
Lesnar berated Guerrero as well as the Mexican people, and promised that he would get back his WWE title from Guerrero somewhere down the line. He added that before going for Guerrero, he needed to settle the score with Goldberg.
In a bizarre visual, Lesnar got down on his knees, almost on the verge of crying, and begged Mr. McMahon to give him Goldberg at WrestleMania 20.
#2 Brock Lesnar makes quick work of Randy Orton
At SummerSlam 2016, Brock Lesnar met Randy Orton in what was a dream encounter that had been more than a decade in the making. Lesnar and Orton came up to the main roster at the same time, as a part of OVW's class of 2002. Future legends like John Cena and Batista also came up around the same time.
Lesnar destroyed Orton at SummerSlam, but not many have seen their previous encounter, on an episode of SmackDown. Lesnar, basking in his WWE title win over The Rock at SummerSlam, met Orton on SmackDown. Much like SummerSlam 2016, Lesnar dominated this match and hit Orton with a thunderous F5 to finish things up.
#1 Brock Lesnar meets CM Punk in a rare backstage clip
At WrestleMania 19, Brock Lesnar defeated Kurt Angle to become the WWE Champion again, and the two Superstars hugged it out to end the memorable show, as 50,000+ fans gave them an ovation. The April 10, 2003 episode of SmackDown saw Lesnar return to the blue brand, after taking a short break.
The camera caught him arriving in the arena and approaching his locker room. Suddenly, several people stopped Lesnar to congratulate him on his victory and shake hands with him. One of these people was CM Punk, future WWE megastar.
It would be around 3 years before Punk would get his chance to shine on the main roster.
