WWE Survivor Series has endured something of a rollercoaster reputation in the years since its inception thirty years ago in 1987. It started off as one of the most innovative pay per views in professional wrestling being completely based around elimination tag team matches but the gloss soon wore off and it was relegated to being the least important of the Big Four WWE pay per views.

You can follow Sportskeeda's live updates and coverage of Survivor Series 2017 right here.

A large reason for this has been the number of lacklustre matches that have occurred on WWE Survivor Series match cards over the years. There have been some truly terrible bouts - be in the traditional Survivor Series match or just any other regular match. So, without any further ado, here is our list of the 5 worst matches in WWE Survivor Series history:

#5 Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart (Survivor Series 1997)

The Screwjob ruined an instant classic
The Screwjob ruined an instant classic

Ahh, the infamous Montreal Screwjob incident. The heated rivalry between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart came to a head at WWE Survivor Series 1997 and it ended with one of the most talked-about incidents in the history of professional wrestling.

To be fair, the match itself was really good and could have been one of the best matches of the two men's career, but unfortunately, the finish absolutely destroyed all chances of that. No matter how good the work before the end was, it was a disgrace to the business and an awful end to Bret's WWE career.

#4 Randy Orton vs The Big Show (Survivor Series 2013)

Well, this went swimmingly well, didn't it?
Well, this went swimmingly well, didn't it?

In 2013, Daniel Bryan was the single hottest thing in all of professional wrestling and when he got screwed out of the WWE Championship at Summerslam that year, the fans were demanding that The American Dragon get a rematch at Survivor Series a few months later.

Instead, the WWE's creative team went with the bizarre choice of The Big Show to be Randy Orton's opponent in the main event. The match was horribly dull and had a stupidly wasteful finish and the fans were quick to voice their displeasure at things.

#3 Teddy Long vs Eric Bischoff (Survivor Series 2005)

This sure looks like fun
This sure looks like fun

When the Smackdown vs Raw wars was at its peak in the noughties, Eric Bischoff ran things on Monday Nights while Teddy Long held the reigns for the blue brand. And, for some unfathomable reason, the two men decided to duke it out in an actual match at the 2005 edition of WWE Survivor Series.

It was as bad as you'd expect it to be and ended with The Boogeyman - of all people - interfering on Long's behalf to give Smackdown the win.

#2 Triple H vs Vladimir Kozlov vs Edge (Survivor Series 2008)

This match was originally supposed to be a Triple Threat between Triple H, Vladimir Kozlov, and Jeff Hardy but Hardy was found unconscious in the build-up to the show, making it a straight one on one match between the two remaining guys. Until Vickie Guerrero inserted Edge into the match more than halfway through the whole thing.

None of this could hide the fact that Kozlov was atrocious in the ring and to make matters worse, the ending had Jeff return to attack Edge, clock The Game with a chair by accident, allowing The Ultimate Opportunist to become the new champion. What?

#1 The Royal Family vs Clowns R Us (Survivor Series 1994)

Wow
Wow

This match had a team of Jerry "The King" Lawler, teaming with a bunch of midgets dressed as royalty to face off against Doink the Clown and a bunch of midgets dressed as clowns. What more needs to be said about this one?

It remains the single worst match in the history of WWE Survivor Series, in addition, to being highly offensive.
