Injuries are all part of the job when it comes to being a wrestler, more often than not it's the wear and tear on the bodies after years of taking bumps that lead many superstars to retire early, but this isn't always the case.

Botches happen a lot on WWE and rarely a week goes by without one of WWE's main roster being part of a noteworthy botch. Whilst many of these botches will be overlooked by WWE officials because they are just small mistakes in the moments, but others leave lasting effects.

There are a number of botches that many of the WWE Universe will remember as moves that ended careers or even forced superstars out on the sidelines for an undetermined amount of time, here are just five that led to the WWE star being sidelined or even forced to retire.

#5 Liv Morgan and Brie Bella

Liv Morgan and Brie Bella have taken all of the headlines this week after it was revealed that one-third of The Riott Squad had suffered a concussion this week on Raw when the Total Divas star inadvertently struck her in the face with two of her Yes Kicks.

This is a spot that Brie has done a number of times since she started using the kicks that her husband Daniel Bryan made famous throughout his World Championship run, but this is the first time the former Divas Champion has managed to injure any of her fellow wrestlers.

It is unknown how long Morgan will be on the sidelines because of this injury, but the former NXT star does have a match at Super Show-Down next weekend, a match that could now be in question.

Brock Lesnar has had his own fair share of botches throughout the course of his lengthy wrestling career, most notably in matches against Roman Reigns and The Undertaker, but interestingly one of The Beast's biggest botches came much earlier in his career when he faced Kurt Angle back at WrestleMania XIX.

The Beast Incarnate tried to deliver a Shooting Star Press to Angle as part of their match, but even though he had used the move numerous times in OVW, he botched and landed on his head and neck. This led to Lesnar suffering a serious concussion and the duo then being forced to improvise the finish of the match. Lesnar wasn't out of action for very long, but this was still a serious injury at the time that forced WWE to go through concussion protocol.

One of the most brutal botches in WWE history came back at Armageddon back in 2006 when The Hardys, MNM, Paul London and Brian Kendrick, as well as William Regal and Dave Taylor, all collided in a fatal four-way match.

One of the spots in the match saw Jeff Hardy jump from the top rope onto the leg of a ladder, but as he did the spot, his brother Matt held Joey Mercury's face down and the ladder then ricocheted into his face and broke his nose and orbital bone.

Mercury was out of action for a number of months following the injury but never fully recovered since he was released from his WWE contract just three months later. Mercury has since returned to WWE numerous times and was even part of J&J Security with Seth Rollins back in 2015.

Shawn Michaels is easily considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of the business, but one of the thing that held Michaels back for most of his career was his problems with his recurring back injury.

This injury was caused by a botch in a match against The Undertaker in a casket match back at The Royal Rumble back in 1998 where he was sent out of the ring and should have jumped over the casket but actually bumped his back on the edge of the object. The botch caused Michaels to cause him to herniate two discs and crush one completely, this injury caused Michaels a number of issues throughout the next few years of his career and one of the main reasons for his retirement back in 2010.

#1 Seth Rollins and Finn Balor

Seth Rollins has got himself quite a reputation over the past few years after he botches a number of moves in the ring in a short amount of time. Rollins knee to the face broke John Cena's nose on Raw before his buckle bomb then became the main reason why Sting retired from in-ring competition back in 2015.

Rollins took on Finn Balor for the Universal Championship back at SummerSlam in 2016 and after a powerbomb into the barricade seemingly went wrong, Balor sustained a shoulder injury during the match and an MRI revealed a labrum tear that would require surgery which left him in a position where he was forced to relinquish the Universal Championship and then spent eight months on the sidelines before he was able to return to action following WrestleMania in 2017.
