WWE Clash of Champions 2019: Top 5 performers at the PPV

Stealing the show like a Boss?
Stealing the show like a Boss?

WWE Clash of Champions 2019 ended on a high note despite being an average show overall. Each of the Championships was on the line and only two of them changed hands. We saw Raw Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman lose their titles to Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler.

On the other hand, SmackDown Tag Team Champions Big E and Xavier Woods lost their titles to The Revival. The rest of the Champions were successful in walking away from the arena with their belts comfortably resting on their shoulders.

We saw several good performances unfold on Sunday night but there were few which stole the show. In this list, we have discussed the top 5 Superstars who left the WWE Universe in awe.

Before we start with the list, I want to hail Sami Zayn as our honorable mention. Yes, he wasn’t fighting inside the ring but he did a fantastic job by commenting during Shinsuke Nakamura’s match against The Miz.

Zayn has always been brilliant on the mic. His snarky comments on The Miz during the Intercontinental Championship match left the arena roaring with laughter. He is doing well as Nakamura’s manager and if we are lucky, we may see a lot more of Zayn commenting on the in-ring action in the manner that only he can.

#5 AJ Styles

You do not want to be in the bad book of The Phenomenal One
You do not want to be in the bad book of The Phenomenal One

If you are one of those people who skip the pre-show, you have my sympathy. To everyone’s shock, AJ Styles defended his United States Championship against Cedric Alexander in less than five minutes to conclude Clash of Champions pre-show.

The Phenomenal One, alongside The OC, went on to manhandle Alexander inside the squared circle to assert his dominance. They convinced us why they are the heels that no one should mess with. Styles and Alexander feuded for a few weeks before the PPV and put up good matches.

But he unleashed the beast inside once his title was put on the line. Not only did Styles successfully defend his Championship, but also ensured that his opponent knows the threat that The OC pose over the entire roster.

#4 Rowan

Rowan's getting snarky and we are loving it!
Rowan's getting snarky and we are loving it!

Rowan was the mastermind behind the career-threatening attacks on Roman Reigns and he was keen on settling the score with the ‘Big Dog’ at Clash of Champions.

For someone who has struggled in Single’s run, Rowan was impressive in the first half of the match when he dominated Reigns. He took convincing bumps and returned the favor while attacking his opponent.

Not only that, Rowan continued to taunt Roman reigns throughout the match. Together, they engaged in well-executed spots including the one in which Reigns hit Rowan with a mic to recreate the moment we saw in the previous episode of SmackDown Live.

Additionally, Luke Harper’s assistance in taking down Roman Reigns did not overshadow Rowan’s actions during the match. He ensured that this no disqualification match bears witness to the monstrosity that was expected from it.

And now that the Bludgeon Brothers have reunited, it will be interesting to see what's next in line for Rowan.

#3 Braun Strowman

The 'Monster Among Men' is full of surprises
The 'Monster Among Men' is full of surprises

Right after losing his Tag Team title to Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, Braun Strowman blamed Seth Rollins for getting pinned. He carried that aggression into the ring when he went toe-to-toe with the ‘Beast Slayer’ for the Universal Champion.

Out of several astonishing spots throughout the match, the one that stood out saw Strowman reach the top of the turnbuckle and hit Rollins with a splash. For a second, we saw the ‘Monster Among Men’ shaking while trying to maintain his balance on top of the ropes.

But the next second we saw him just go for it. It was a pleasant surprise to see him pull off such a move in his attempt to beat the Universal Champion. It took three Curb Stomps for Rollins to finally overcome Strowman who shrugged off the first two as if they were bee stings.

Despite the fact that Strowman failed in his attempt to get his hands on the Universal Championship, he was as good as the champion, if not better. And who knows, maybe the next time he challenges for the tile he will walk away with the gold on his shoulder.

#2 Seth Rollins

The Monster Slayer...
The Monster Slayer...

Seth Rollins has had a brilliant run as the WWE Universal Champion. He continues to defend his title against all odds and did the same when he faced the ‘Monster Among Men’ at Clash of Champions.

He survived Braun Strowman’s strongest moves including a splash from the top of the turnbuckle. For a moment, it looked impossible to expect Rollins to retain his title despite the beating he took inside the squared circle.

He hit Strowman with two Curb Stomps but that was not enough to keep the latter down for long. But if we have learned anything from Rollins’ reign as the Universal Champion, we know that ‘The Architect’ doesn’t give up.

He fought his way back into the match and used the third curb stomp to turn the match in his fafavorBoth Rollins and Strowman were impressive and showed us why they deserved to be in the mamain eventf the pay-per-view. Unfortunately for Rollins, his celebration didn’t last long as he was attacked by The Fiend who has his eyes on the title.

#1 Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch

It's getting more brutal with each passing day
It's getting more brutal with each passing day

Ever since her return, Sasha Banks has been an epitome of brilliance. She faced Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship and the two horsewomen were involved in the best match of the night.

Becky and Sasha engaged in a highly competitive match that included fierce banter. At one point, Banks took a steel chair and wanted to use it to gain an advantage over ‘The Man’. But Lynch had other plans. She quickly countered and got her hands on the opponent’s favorite weapon.

However, she hit the referee by mistake and the latter was knocked out. With no official around, Becky assaulted Banks and the two Superstars went around the arena while fighting each other. From taking bumps on stairs to using random props for hitting each other, both Banks and Lynch kept attacking each other until they were back inside the ring.

Once again, Becky got an upper hand and she completely dismantled the Boss. However, by this time other officials came out and informed that The Man is disqualified for attacking the official.

Although we couldn’t see a winner in this memorable bout, they certainly tore down the rood amidst roaring applause from the WWE Universe. They are now set to lock horns at Hell in a Cell inside one of the most brutal structures in WWE history.

Irrespective of the winner, once can’t deny that together they will account for an unforgettable encounter at Hell in a Cell.
