The biggest heels in WWE are essential in creating iconic storylines. While a few Superstars are meant to be babyfaces, others thrive as heels. More often than not, a heel turn allows fans to witness a different side of top names and helps them explore their full potential.

In this article, we will look at five WWE Superstars who are in desperate need of a heel turn and why.

#5 Apollo Crews (WWE SmackDown) – Potential alliance with Roman Reigns

A start of a new friendship?
A start of a new friendship?

Earlier this month, Apollo Crews received an opportunity to challenge Big E for the Intercontinental Championship on WWE SmackDown. To say that their in-ring encounter was an ‘interesting affair’ would be an understatement. First, both Crews and Big E battled in a brutal exchange, and the champion was pushed to his limits.

After battling for a long time, Crews and Big E both landed on their back with their arms over each other. This led to a double pinfall, but Crews was adamant that he lifted one of his shoulders while both of Big E’s shoulders were down. Unfortunately for Crews, the match official did not accept his argument, and it led to another match between the two Superstars immediately.

Eventually, Big E won the match and successfully retained his WWE Intercontinental Championship. However, after their match, he went to shake hands with Crews, but the latter ended up attacking the champion. This led to several speculations about Crews’ plausible heel turn – something that WWE had teased last year on RAW when he was feuding with Andrade over the United States Championship.

Fast forward to last week; we saw Crews seated next to Roman Reigns who was discussing the details of his contract with Paul Heyman. The Tribal Chief insisted that Crews should stay with the WWE Universal Champion as it would allow him to learn a lot of things. Given the recent turn of events, there’s a huge possibility that Crews will soon turn heel and align forces with Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown.

It is important to note that Crews was one of the breakout Superstars in WWE last year when the promotion was still adapting to the sudden shift in the production. Back then, it was speculated that Crews would eventually turn heel and join The Hurt Business. But before that could happen, he was drafted to WWE SmackDown. He now has another opportunity to explore his potential as a heel on the Blue brand, and WWE must make the best use of this opportunity.

In addition to a promising heel turn, his alliance with Roman Reigns will work wonders in establishing Crews as a huge threat on the Blue brand. It will now be interesting to see what’s in store for this talented WWE Superstar.

#4 Dominik Mysterio (WWE SmackDown) – Dominik betrays Aalyah Mysterio by attacking Murphy

Dominik Mysterio undoubtedly made a promising debut in WWE. His matches were impressive, and he looked far from an amateur performer inside the ring. He held on his own against the likes of Seth Rollins and Murphy while simultaneously proving his mettle alongside his father and legendary performer, Rey Mysterio. Unfortunately for him, Dominik Mysterio lost all his momentum once the feud between his family and Seth Rollins came to an end.

Over the last couple of months, we have seen him accompany his father to the ring. Dominik Mysterio is barely booked in interesting segments and is often reduced to a mascot at ringside. If anything, it would be a huge mistake to keep Dominik Mysterio away from the limelight, especially when WWE SmackDown is delivering such interesting shows every week.

Dominik Mysterio can turn against Murphy and kickstart a feud with Aalyah Mysterio's boyfriend that will eventually benefit all the Superstars involved in this storyline. This may also lead to tension between him and Rey Mysterio that would result in an epic match between the two in WWE. There are a lot of possibilities for the WWE creative to explore and they must act on it soon, or else Dominik Mysterio is at the risk of being lost in oblivion.

#3 Keith Lee (WWE RAW) – Big swerve in the WWE Championship picture

In all honestly, we were all excited to see Sheamus eventually turn heel and feud with Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship. Unfortunately, that storyline will now have to go on hold until the entire chapter involving Goldberg is over. In the meantime, WWE could experiment with a heel turn for Keith Lee. Not to mention, it would account for a great swerve on WWE RAW.

Lee spent the entire 2020 proving his mettle inside the ring. Amidst his impressive performances on RAW, there were also backstage rumors about him returning the Performance Centre in order to work on certain aspects of his gimmick. He is one of the most promising Superstars in WWE today, and now would be the right time to test how he can carry himself on the two sides of the spectrum.

As harsh as it may seem, WWE RAW desperately needs interesting storylines to unfold in order to gain its viewership as well as a fraction of its past glory. Currently, AJ Styles and The Miz are the only two heels who pose a serious threat to the world title on the brand. Adding a villainous Lee into the mix would certainly spice things up for the WWE Championship and help in developing better storyline to create engaging content for a three-hour show.

#2 Nikki Cross (WWE RAW) – An anti-hero angle might revive her career on the main roster

Nikki Cross undoubtedly had a great start to her run on the main roster. Her alliance with Alexa Bliss saw her win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. However, it was her series of losses against Bayley that ultimately ruined her momentum. Ever since that, Cross has struggled to find her feet in WWE.

Amidst all of this, a heel turn could be extremely beneficial for Nikki Cross on WWE RAW. There’s no way for her to go up against Alexa Bliss at the moment and come out victorious. Instead, she should be allowed to pursue her fate as a singles Superstar on the Red brand by challenging the top talents. A feud against the biggest babyfaces will push her further up the roster.

The women’s division of WWE RAW is genuinely struggling to deliver good feuds. We have seen repetitive brawls and average rivalries. Maybe adding a brutal heel into the mix will help both the said Superstar while simultaneously creating new threats to the women’s championships. Cross’ heel turn will certainly account for an interesting prospect, enabling her to get better as a singles Superstar.

#1 Kevin Owens (WWE SmackDown) – A reunion with Sami Zayn?

Kevin Owens is currently involved in a feud with Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown, and they delivered two good matches last month. Both Superstars are now set to lock horns at WWE Royal Rumble with Reigns’ Universal Championship on the line. It is highly unlikely that The Tribal Chief will lose his gold, and the upcoming pay-per-view might script the final chapter of this feud.

Following that, WWE should allow a frustrated Kevin Owens to turn heel. While he is good as a babyface, Owens is simply brilliant as a heel. He knows how to get under the skin of others, and works extremely well whenever he plays the bad guy. In fact, he is so good as a heel that fans always end up rooting for him in any storyline.

We have seen Owens struggle against Reigns because the latter often gets help from Jey Uso while KO doesn’t have anyone in his corner. Once this storyline ends, he should turn heel and reunite with Sami Zayn. The latter needs this more than anything and aligning with Owens will open doors to new opportunities for both the Superstars in WWE.

Together, they can compete in the tag team division and even go after the titles. Both Owens and Zayn have never won the tag team titles in WWE. Hence, this renewed partnership could lead them to a historic moment. Moreover, they share incredible chemistry that will guarantee entertaining segments on WWE SmackDown every week.
