5 WWE Superstars who can retire Randy Orton

The original golden boy of WWE.
The original golden boy of WWE.

You know Randy Orton is viewed as a special talent in the eyes of the WWE officials when a superstar as stale as The Viper becomes a grand slam champion at the age of 37.

The Apex Predator may have a solid few more years left in the business but it's no secret that the third-generation superstar prefers a lighter schedule, contrary to the tedious deals offered to other talents on the roster.

However, that day isn't far away when the temperamental 13-time WWE Champion wrestles his final match in the WWE but who will be designated with the job of either putting over or getting the rub in Orton's retirement match?

This list takes a look at the most probable names to get the job done:

Honorable Mention: The Miz

You ask why? Nuclear heat for the best heel in years.

#1 John Cena

A generation built around the icons should end with the two.
A generation built around these icons could end with one final match between the two

Try recollecting Orton's greatest rivals and you surprisingly not have many options to work with.

John Cena is his most recognised adversary but a match between the two these days is worse than watching Jinder Mahal's in action.

The two flagbearers of the WWE have crossed each other's paths unwantedly in the past decade and it shouldn't come as a surprise if the Cenation leader is handed the task of seeing off Orton from WWE in the near future.

With Undertaker seemingly set to become the first name Cena may retire at WrestleMania 34, adding Orton to the list would only elevate the Cenation Leader's already robust resume.

#2 Jinder Mahal

Don't worry...we've got better options.
Don't worry...we've got better options

There isn't any better a way to garner heat towards a heel by having him retire one of the most popular faces of this generation.

Mahal is already quite hated for all the wrong reasons and it can be argued that the Modern Day Maharaja is not getting the 'right kind of heat' at the moment.

He is a superstar who is destined to be a heel most of the times, and by ending the career of the man who he beat to win his first WWE title would only raise his stock as one of the premier bad guys of the company.

We all know how it worked for Roman Reigns despite him not being a heel. Reigns' promo on the night after WrestleMania 33 matured him as a performer and the reactions he's been getting ever since -- irrespective of it being cheers or boos --- have helped the future Universal Champion in becoming a top guy.

Knowing Orton, he would certainly not want to go out on a loss against Mahal however beneficial it may be for the Modern Day Maharaja in the long run.

But there is one man who will prosper more than Mahal if he faces Orton in his swan song.....

#3 Kevin Owens

Owens as the new legend killer?
Owens as the new legend killer?

Owens is one of the last pure heels left in the business and is destined to be one of the major players in the WWE going forward.

When you think of it, Owens would undoubtedly thrive in a gimmick that would be reminiscent of the Legend Killer that made Randy Orton a household name back during his breakout days.

If there's anyone from the current crop who can reinvent Orton's iconic character, it has to be Owens as he can hang with the very best -- both on the mic and in the ring.

KO has already had quite a few high-profile feuds in his impressive run on the main roster and what makes it even more special is that he's been a champion for most of his stay in the big leagues.

Putting the 13-time WWE Champion out of business would not only look good on Owens' resume but it's also something he can brag about for as long as he wishes.

#4 Batista

Still a better alternative to than Jinder Mahal.
Still a better alternative to than Jinder Mahal.

From a storyline standpoint, any member of the Evolution is worthy of ending Orton's storied WWE run.

Let's keep Ric Flair out of the equation here for obvious reasons. Triple H, too, doesn't make for a convincing choice as either should ideally be the one doing the honors for Triple H in the Game's retirement match.

That leaves us with WWE's greatest Hollywood export after The Rock, Batista.

As part of the hated Evolution, the Animal and the Viper climbed up the ladder of relevancy in the WWE and were eventually pushed to sustained main event success by their mentor, the master of the shovel himself, Triple H.

It only makes sense that the six-time WWE Champion returns to WWE to face his old partner in a loser retires match at the grandest stage of them all but we're sure there wouldn't be many takers for the match.

However, if booked well, it could be a nostalgic end to two of the biggest products of the Ruthless Aggression Era.

But the next and final star on this list is the most relevant name who should be the one who gives Orton his farewell when all is said and done...

#5 Seth Rollins

Who can forget that picture-perfect curb stomp from WrestleMania 31? Orton may have gotten the better of Rollins but the Architect had the last laugh that night when he pulled off the heist of the century by cashing in the MITB contract against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.

The day Rollins sold himself to the devil was the passing of the torch from Orton to Rollins as the next Triple H Guy.

If Roman Reigns is this generation's John Cena then Rollins is inarguably the New Era Randy Orton.

Both prefer to be heels than faces and are as smooth as a baby's bottom inside the squared circle.

Out of all the names on this list, the Kingslayer is the most deserving and logical name to be known as the man who slayed the Viper for good.
