Some of the most epic cash ins have come after a long wait

With WWE Money in the Bank 2017 done and dusted, the question on everyone’s lips now is when will Mr Money in the Bank, Baron Corbin, and Miss Money in the Bank, Carmella, cash in their briefcases?

Will they hold onto to it for an age or will they be cashing it within a few days or weeks? That’s what makes the Money in the Bank concept so intriguing. You never know when things can go down. After all, we saw Carmella tease a cash less than an hour after her victory at the recently concluded pay-per-view.

While we may see the winners of the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match and the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match cash in sometime soon, it is equally possible that they decide to wait as long as it takes to ensure their guaranteed match for a WWE Championship or Smackdown Live Women’s Championship results in victory.

After all, some of the most successful cash ins in the history of the WWE have come from wrestlers who have held onto the briefcase for a long period of time.

So, without any further ado, here is our list of 5 WWE Superstars who have held the Money in the Bank briefcase for the longest time:

#5 Daniel Bryan – 154 days

Bryan held the contract for 5 months

In 2011, just the second year of the WWE Money in the Bank annual pay-per-view show, Daniel Bryan defied the odds to win the WWE Money in the Bank Ladder match for a guaranteed shot at the World Heavyweight Championship against Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Cody Rhodes, Kane, Sheamus, Sin Cara.

Despite a successful cash in aginst Mark Henry, the decision was overturned and Bryan returned his briefcase which he eventually cashed in against then-ally The Big Show, to win his first World Heavyweight Championship in the WWE.

He held onto the briefcase for a whopping 154 days – 5 months – before he cashed in on The World’s Largest Athlete and this led to his eventual heel turn further down the road.

#4 Sheamus – 181 days

Sheamus had one of the most boring cash ins in recent memory

The cash in on this list that evokes the least amount of emotion and excitement is when Sheamus cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Roman Reigns.

He defeated Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Neville, and Reigns in the 2015 edition of the Money in the Bank Ladder match and held onto the contract for 181 days before cashing in on The Big Dog.

It isn’t a cash in that lives long in the memory and is one of the few longer cash ins to not make an impact on the WWE Universe,

#3 Dolph Ziggler – 267 days

Ziggler’s cash in was met with a thunderous pop

From a cash in that had little impact to one that created a frenzied atmosphere. When Dolph Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on the night after Wrestlemania 29, the WWE Universe lost its collective mind.

Ziggler had won the briefcase a full 267 days before his cash in at the 2012 edition of Money in the Bank where he defeated Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, Christian, Tyson Kidd, Sin Cara, Tensai, and Santino Marella.

Despite being a heel, Ziggler got a thunderous pop as he cashed in against a babyface Alberto Del Rio to become World Heavyweight Champion.

#2 Seth Rollins – 273 days

The Heist of the Century, indeed

Now, we come to one of the most famous cash ins of all-time, and the only one to have happened during an active match.

Few could have anticipated the shocking turn of events in the main event of Wrestlemania 31 when Seth Rollins cashed in his contract during the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.

After winning the briefcase in the 2014 edition of the Money in the Bank Ladder match against Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Rob Van Dam, and Dean Ambrose, Rollins bided his time for 273 days before his iconic cash in moment on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

#1 Edge – 280 days

The first winner, Edge is still the person to have held onto the briefcase for the longest time

When Edge won the very first Money in the Bank Ladder match at Wrestlemania 21 in 2005, nobody knew what to expect. Edge had won the briefcase against Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Shelton Benjamin, Kane, and Christian and held on to it for 280 days before finally cashing it in.

At New Year’s Revolution 2006, Vince McMahon came out to make the announcement that Edge was cashing in his Money in the Bank contract and The Rated R Superstar beat an exhausted John Cena to win his first WWE Championship.

This set the stage for every cash in to come after it and truly cemented the Money in the Bank as a yearly treat for the WWE Universe.
