Sometimes, love and wrestling just don’t mix. The lifestyle, the travel. It’s not for everyone. Just like other forms of entertainment, marriages don’t always last in professional wrestling. Even the immortal Hulk Hogan and his wife Linda divorced after 24 years together. Yes, even the strong do crumble.
Many times, wrestlers meet wrestlers, fall in love and try to make a go of it. That doesn’t last as much, either. And sometimes, these love stories are the fodder of great storylines played out on the small screen on a weekly basis. Randy Savage and the lovely Elizabeth had an “on and off” relationship the entire time the Macho Man was one of the more popular performers in WWF.
On the flipside, Roddy Piper and his wife, Kitty, were married 33 years before the Rowdy one died last year.
While it may not have lasted for these wrestlers the first time, they have married again. Some marriages have worked, while others are still trying to get it right.
#1 Ric Flair
Four times! The 16-time world champion has been quite the ladies man over the years, with his vignettes proving to be some of the best promos ever. If you ask him, he will tell you he invented Space Mountain and true to form, he partied like a rock star while he was the king of the business.
Let’s just say his wrestling career was more successful than his marriages. Flair does have four children: Megan, David, Ashley (Charlotte) and Reid. Flair is currently separated from his current wife, Jackie Beems, whom he married in 2009.
#2 Shawn Michaels
Michaels has been married twice. He married Theresa Wood in 1988 and the two were divorced in 1994. The Heartbreak Kid found love again when he met Rebecca Curci, who was a former WCW Nitro Girl (Whisper). The two have two children together. They live in San Antonio.
While he was considered a wild child upon the start of his singles career in the company, his marriage to Curci has helped him find stability. Michaels is a born again Christian and incorporated this faith in his costumes after he wed his second bride.
#3 Sable
Sable came to WWE with her then husband, Marc Mero. The couple weren’t as successful together as they were apart. At least when it comes to the blond bombshell. There wasn’t a woman in the business who had enjoyed the popularity Sable did.
That included a couple of centrefolds in Playboy (one with Torrie Wilson) and some risqué segments on television and at a few pay-per-views. Sable and Mero divorced and Sable met of all people, Brock Lesnar. The two are currently married. Sable has not been any part of a WWE angle involving the Beast Incarnate.
#4 Steve Austin
If you know Steve Austin has been married more than once, give me a “Hell Yeah.” Austin, one of WWE’s greatest characters of all time might have been solid in the ring, but marriage was not his strong suit. Austin is a six-time WWF Champion, a two-time WWF Intercontinental Champion, and a four-time WWF Tag Team Champion.
He has also been married four times, one of which was to the former Debra McMichael who was married to former Four Horseman member and Chicago Bears defensive lineman Steve McMichael. Austin is currently married to the former Kristin Feres whom he married in 2009.
#5 Kurt Angle
Oh it’s true. It’s damn true. Angle is one of the best pure wrestlers in the business and is a former Olympic gold medalist but he has been married more than once!
He is a six-time world champion (four reigns as WWF/E Champion, one as WCW Champion, and one as WWE's World Heavyweight Champion), a one-time United States Champion, one-time Intercontinental Champion, one-time European Champion and one-time WWE Tag Team Champion.
Angle was married to the current Karen Jarrett for 10 years before the two divorced. Karen then married pro wrestler Jeff Jarrett and the two lived happily ever after. The breakup and relationship with Jarrett were part of a nasty storyline in TNA. Kurt Angle is now married to his wife Giovanna, whom he wed in 2012.
