We've seen many great tag-teams in the WWE over the years. The greatest tag-teams are often specialists who are together for years, carving out their legacy.

However, sometimes, we see makeshift tag-teams make an impact before the Superstars involved go back to being singles competitors. We decided to look at some makeshift teams which have won tag-team gold in the WWE.

#6 CM Punk and Kofi Kingston

CM Punk and Kofi Kingston were briefly a tag-team back in the day. At the time, both men were relative newcomers to the WWE and they quickly became fan favourites. The duo beat Cody and Ted DiBiasie Jr. on an episode of RAW in September, 2008 to win their only tag titles together. Both men went on to win world titles in WWE after their run as a tag-team ended and they are still good friends to this day.

Speaking about the influence Punk had him, Kofi said the following.

I was Tag Team Champions with CM Punk, which was awesome because I learned so much from him. He was one of the guys who took me under his wing when he didn’t have to. I was always grateful for that friendship. Being tag team partners with R-Truth is always fun. He’s always making you laugh. Every moment we had together was always fun.

#5 Drew McIntyre and Cody

Some fans may not remember this, but the new WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre, and AEW EVP Cody were once tag-team champions in WWE. Dubbed ‘The Dashing Ones’, the duo were only together for around six weeks, but still managed to win the gold once. They won the titles at Night of Champions 2010 in a tag-team turmoil match.

Rhodes and McIntyre didn’t hold the titles for long, and dropped them at the Bragging Rights PPV to the team of John Cena and David Otunga.

#4 Big Show and Undertaker

After Big Show’s WWE debut in 1999, WWE decided to pair him up with The Undertaker to help showcase another side of the giant. Their run together didn’t work out in the long run but they did form a fearsome tag-team. Dubbed the Unholy Alliance, they were managed by the late great Paul Bearer.

The Undertaker and Big Show were a success in the tag-team division, winning the WWE tag titles on two occasions. There could have been more titles in the team's future, but unfortunately, Undertaker’s injury after SummerSlam 1999 forced their run together to come at a premature end.

#3 John Cena and David Otunga

The year was 2010, and WWE’s top babyface John Cena had been forced into joining forces with Wade Barrett and The Nexus. During this time, John Cena was forced to team up with David Otunga. The duo ended up challenging for Tag-Team titles at Bragging Rights 2010. They went on to beat Drew McIntyre and Cody to win the tag-team championships.

However, their title reign only lasted one night and they dropped the titles to Nexus members Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater on RAW the next night.

#2 John Cena and The Miz

John Cena and The Miz were in the midst of a heated feud over the WWE Championship heading into WrestleMania 27.

In the run-up to the show, John Cena and Miz teamed up on an episode of RAW to face The Corre for the WWE Tag-Team Championships. Cena and Miz managed to win the titles but their reign only lasted a couple of hours. They lost the titles back to The Corre a little later on in the show.

The Rock and Chris Jericho are two of the greatest Superstars in WWE history. The People’s Champion and Le Champion were briefly WWE Tag-Team Champions in 2001. Jericho, who was Undisputed Champion at the time, teamed up with The Rock to challenge the Dudley Boyz for the championship on an episode of RAW.

The Rock ended up pinning D-Von Dudley to bring home the titles for his team. They only held the titles for a little over a week and lost them to Test and Booker T.
