6 Greatest Triple Threat matches in WrestleMania history

WrestleMania has been host to a number of Triple Threat Matches
WrestleMania has been host to a number of Triple Threat Matches

WrestleMania 35 is just around the corner, and the WWE Universe are all eagerly anticipating the potential Triple Threat match between Charlotte, Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch, the predicted first women's main event in WrestleMania history.

There may also be another potential Triple Threat with Kofi Kingston, Daniel Bryan and Kevin Owens, but that's yet to take shape, and it got us thinking about great Triple Threat matches in WrestleMania history.

Sometimes, these multi-man matches are just put together to get more people on the card, but when done properly, they can steal the show on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Triple Threat matches can be chaotic or they can be well-organised bouts, but either way, they've proven to be some of the best matches in WrestleMania history, so we've compiled a list of what we believe to be the 6 greatest.

#6 Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins vs. The Miz - WrestleMania 34

WrestleMania 34 from New Orleans was a bit of a mixed show, with some great stuff, some not great stuff and some very divisive stuff.

However, what can't be up for debate is how great the Triple Threat for the Intercontinental Title was. It may not have had as many insane spots as you'd expect with 2 athletes such as Finn Balor and Seth Rollins present, but there was constant action and a great story told throughout.

This was arguably the match of the night (with Charlotte vs. Asuka coming in a very close second), and it saw The Architect walking away with the Intercontinental Championship. It won't go down in history as one of the greatest matches in the event's history (especially considering Rollins and Miz have both had at least 2 better matches at WrestleMania), but it was a great way to kick off the show, and it's one of the big positives we'll remember from this show.

#5 Edge and Christian vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Hardy Boyz - Triangle Ladder Match WrestleMania 2000

This is arguably the greatest tag team rivalry in WWE history, as these 6 men would make history between each other constantly during the Attitude Era, and while they went on to top this a few times, this match is still so memorable. This match was just a taste of what these 3 tag teams would end up offering us when they invented the Tables, Ladders and Chairs match, but on this night, they managed plenty of carnage with just ladders.

Ultimately it would be Edge and Christian to come out on top in this car crash, but like always, it was Jeff Hardy that stole the show with an impeccable Swanton Bomb through a table in the aisle, one of many suicidal highlights to add to the dangerous yet impressive reel.

#4 Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton vs. Kurt Angle - WrestleMania 22

Rey Mysterio is considered the greatest underdog in WWE history, and his improbably run to the World Heavyweight Championship in 2006 is living proof of that. His Royal Rumble victory came after lasting 62-minutes inside the ring and doing it for his recently departed friend Eddie Guerrero, Rey went on to wrestle two all-time greats at WrestleMania to achieve his dreams.

The match itself wasn't a long, drawn out contest like others on this list, and that was due to the time constraints on the event, but they managed to get the best out of the limited time they did have. In what was quite a shocking occurrence, Rey came out on top and dedicated the emotional moment to his fallen friend, and while the title run after this victory turned out to be terrible, this is one of the best Triple Threat's in WrestleMania history, and a moment that so many will never forget.

#3 The Hardys vs. Edge and Christian vs. The Dudleyz - Triple Threat TLC Match WrestleMania X-Seven

If these 6 men defied death at WrestleMania 2000 with their Triangle Ladder Match, then they somehow managed to do it again, yet top that a year later when Tables and Chairs were added to the mix. The first TLC match came 6 months earlier at SummerSlam, and these 6 topped their stunts yet again, but WrestleMania is another level entirely, so once again, they stepped it up.

Like WrestleMania 2000, it was Edge and Christian who came out on top, but once again, it was Jeff Hardy who stole the headlines. All 6 men (plus Rhyno, Lita and Spike Dudley) put their bodies on the line that night, but it was Edge spearing a hanging Jeff Hardy 15ft to the ground that we will all remember, and it was yet another thrilling instalment to one of the best rivalries in WWE history.

#2 Chris Benoit vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania 20

For obvious reasons, this one isn't talked about much within the WWE anymore, but at the time, it was arguably the greatest bout in WrestleMania history. Benoit was the Royal Rumble winner but was constantly overlooked in the personal rivalry between The Game and The Heartbreak Kid, but on the night, he made sure that the entire world would stand up and take notice.

At the end of a bloody bout, The Rabid Wolverine came out on top, and 17 years of hard work was paid off, and he celebrated with his best friend Eddie Guerrero as the confetti fell. Obviously what happened was unfortunate, because of what happened and because this one deserves to be remembered as an all-time classic, but either way, this is one that the WWE Universe will look back on and enjoy every single time.

#1 Daniel Bryan vs. Batista vs. Randy Orton - WrestleMania 30

This one is arguably the greatest match in WrestleMania history, as it was the culmination of a 2-year story between Daniel Bryan and The Authority, and his improbable rise to the top of the WWE mountain. The match itself was an incredible story from start to finish, and there were points throughout where the fans genuinely thought Bryan was done, but he fought through and made Batista tap with his famous 'Yes Lock'.

Michael Cole screamed: "The Miracle on Bourbon Street" as Bryan celebrated with 70,000 fans in the Super Dome, and it's enough to give anyone in the WWE Universe goosebumps all over their body. This type of atmosphere and utter crowd support has happened only a handful of times in WWE history, so don't expect it again anytime soon, and it's on we'll look back on in 50 years and consider one of the best moments in wrestling history.
