John Cena is easily one of the greatest to have ever stepped inside a WWE ring. Cena is now a 16-time world champion having matched the legendary Ric Flair's record. Over the years, Cena has beaten almost every Superstar he has faced inside a WWE ring. However, there are a few exceptions, some of them really surprising.

We decided to take a look at a different side of the "Face That Runs The Place" today and take a look at a handful of people who John Cena has faced inside a WWE ring but never beaten.

#6 Kevin Federline

Very few wrestling fans or even music fans will remember Kevil Federline in 2019. The back-up dancer turned rapper is most famous for his brief but turbulent marriage to pop star Britney Spears.

Federline was on RAW to promote his upcoming album, Playing With Fire (which was terrible), towards the end of 2006 even being guest GM. During his appearances, Federline played a heel and aligned himself with Cena’s arch-rival at the time John Morrison. Federline also got involved in a mini-feud with Cena. One night in 2007, things led to Kevin Federline squaring off one of one with the future 16-time world champion.

Cena dominated the match but Umaga came out mid-way through it and attacked Cena. After being laid out by Umaga, Cena was pinned by a grinning Kevin Federline who continues to hold his 1-0 win record over Cena to this day. What were WWE thinking when they decided to put Kevin Federline over John Cena? We will probably never get to know.

#5 Tommy Dreamer

Unlike Kevin Federline, the next person on our list is an actual wrestler and a wrestling legend – ECW original Tommy Dreamer. Cena faced Tommy Dreamer early on in his career on a night in 2002.

This match ended up being the only time Cena and Dreamer faced each other in singles action and the ECW original picked up the win on the night. Who would have thought on that night that the young man Dreamer had just pinned would go on to match Ric Flair’s 16 world titles?

#4 Neville

Former WWE Superstar Neville aka PAC, has only wrestled John Cena in singles action once. It took place in 2015 during Cena’s run as US Champion where he was holding regular open challenges. One of these open challenges were answered by ‘The Man That Gravity Forgot’.

Neville really showed us what he could do that night and even seemed to have the upper hand. At this point of the match, the ‘Bulgarian Brute’ Rusev came out to accost Cena and took out Neville before he reached Cena. This led to Neville being given the win by DQ.

Neville and Cena have never wrestled in a singles match since and with Neville aka PAC seemingly signed to AEW now, it's unlikely that they will again.

#3 Billy Gunn

Next up on the list is another unlikely name – Billy Gunn. Best knows as one-half of the New Ages Outlaws and as a part of D-Generation X, Gunn’s singles career never really picked up, especially after that fateful segment on WWE RAW where The Rock verbally obliterated him.

Despite his lackluster singles career, Billy Gunn is one of the few Superstars who holds a 100% win record over Cena, owing mainly to the fact that they only wrestled each other in a singles match once. The year was 2003 and Gunn faced Cena in an early King of the Ring tournament match.

Thankfully for Gunn, The Undertaker interfered during the match to cost Cena, helping Billy Gunn pick up the win over Cena. The duo never wrestled each other in a singles match after this again meaning that Gunn is in the list of rare opponents in WWE who Cena has faced by never beaten.

Billy Gunn worked in the WWE Performance Center briefly after retiring and is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling as a road agent and producer.

#2 Shinsuke Nakamura

The next two Superstars on the list have also never lost in a singles match against John Cena but in the case of these two, the record could still change because there is a reasonable chance that both men could face Cena again in the future.

The first of the said men is former New Japan Pro Wrestling star, former NXT Champion and current Intercontinental Champion – Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura faced John Cena on an episode of SmackDown in 2017 just ahead of SummerSlam, with the winner of the match getting a title shot against then WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.

To the shock of a number of fans, it was Nakamura who won the match and that too clean as a whistle following a Kinshasa knee strike. With Shinsuke Nakamura currently an active part of the WWE roster and John Cena still coming back for occasional matches, there is still some chance that these two could face each other again in singles action although the chances of it are less likely than with the next entry on our list.

#1 Roman Reigns

Next up on our list is the ‘Big Dog’ Roman Reigns. John Cena and Reigns have met thrice in singles action with Reigns winning all the matches.

The first of Cena and Reigns’ televised matches came at No Mercy 2017. The epic battle was won in the end by Reigns although both men gave back as good as they got with Cena even endorsing Reigns after the match. Their second match came from a 2017 WWE event from the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City with the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The two men also met at a WWE Road to WrestleMania live event in 2018.

Interestingly, both Reigns and Cena were also in the Elimination Chamber in 2018 and that match was also won by Reigns although it was Braun Strowman who eliminated Cena.

With Roman Reigns and John Cena, we know one thing, as two of the faces of WWE these two are bound to cross paths again in the future which means that their next meeting could finally be the time for Cena to turn the tide.
