The violence of either grief or joy, their own enactures with themselves destroy.

--William Shakespeare, Hamlet Act III

Sometimes it's hard to fathom why if humankind has been able to send rockets into orbit and create smartphones and the internet, we still haven't solved the problem most inherent to our existence; Violence.

All around the globe, violence perpetuates itself on a large scale, such as the war in Syria, to the local, with white supremacists running over and killing counter-protesters in America. The fact is, humanity isn't certain why some people choose to be violent more than others.

The heinous attack on Bret Hart at the Hall of Fame ceremony is just the latest example of a rare but serious problem in pro wrestling; The fans who become too emotionally involved in the program and seek to violently insert themselves.

It remains to be seen what motive Bret Hart's attacker had, because Hart was not involved in any active storylines. Unfortunately, it has happened before in sports entertainment.

Here are seven times fans got physically involved with pro wrestlers.

#1: Jeff Jarrett thinks it's all part of the show--at first.

Jeff Jarrett once had a fan get involved in one of his matches.
Jeff Jarrett once had a fan get involved in one of his matches.

Jeff Jarrett is a WWE Hall of Fame member and a backstage producer, though he sometimes laces up the boots to compete, like in his recent program with Elias.

However, for many years Jeff Jarrett was the owner and driving force of TNA wrestling. Even after Dixie Carter bought a majority share, Jarrett remained the head booker. So he had his hand in everything going on with his company.

So imagine his surprise when Rey Mysterio leaps up onto the apron to taunt him. He must have been thinking "When did I sign Rey Mysterio?" A confused Jarrett attempts to use sports entertainment style punches and kicks until he realizes his opponent is not 'selling' and is in fact not Rey Mysterio at all.

Don't believe it? Just check out the video.

#2: Eddie Guerrero avoids serious injury in a scary moment.

Eddie Guerrero was one of the most beloved performers of all time in the pro wrestling business. It was hard not to like his roguish charm and his propensity for bouncing back from adversity.

Guerrero held championship gold all over the globe, in Japan, WCW, and the WWE where he was World Champion. His charismatic interviews and segments were always highly entertaining, but his force of personality had a dark side.

Just as Eddie was quite skilled at getting fans to like him, he was equally skilled drawing their ire. Guerrero spent most of his career as a heel, in fact, and one fan took things too far when his hate for Guerrero the character turned into physical action against Eddie the person.

As you will see, it did not end well for the fan...ouch!

#3: Two fans attempt to get at Diamond Dallas Page--but only get beat down.

Diamond Dallas Page was once nearly attacked by two fans but was saved, embarrassingly enough, by a humble referee.
Diamond Dallas Page was once nearly attacked by two fans but was saved, embarrassingly enough, by a humble referee.

Way back during the Monday Night Wars on December 15, 1997, DDP was doing a promo in the ring on World Championship Wrestling Monday Nitro.

As usual, Diamond Dallas Page was putting his all into the interview segment, but suddenly there were two unexpected critics who took to voicing their displeasure through physical means. The two fans jump the barricade and rush the ring. One of them is taken down by security while still on the apron.

The other, however, actually makes it into the ring--before he runs into the iron hands of five foot three inch one hundred pound referee Mark Curtis. Curtis takes down the would-be assailant with a palm strike to the mush.

When the attacker hits the mat, he is kicked in the head before Curtis drags him to his feet and applies what looks like for all the world a Tongan Death Grip or iron claw move. Thankfully security moves in to save the fan before Curtis could apply his finishing hold!

#4: Don't touch my Mother In Law, says Triple H.

Triple H with his mother in law, Linda McMahon.

Triple H these days mostly plays the good guy, whether it be as the spiritual patriarch of NXT or as the defender of his friend Ric Flair's honor at Wrestlemania 35.

However, The Game spent the vast majority of his career being booed as a hated heel. His Hunter Hurst Helmsley character was snobbish and disdainful toward the common people fans. Then he morphed into the sophomoric sidekick of HBK in Degeneration X.

Finally, he underwent the transformation into the Cerebral Assassin, and used that character for most of his career.

It was during the early days of his Cerebral Assassin character that he was feuding with Linda McMahon, who was a babyface official of the WWE. Linda came out to address Triple H, but a fan suddenly leaped over the guardrail and was heading in her direction. We'll never know his intentions because Triple H broke character to protect his mother in law from harm.

#5: La Parka has a hell of a punch.

Pro wrestlers are on the average bigger, tougher, and stronger than the average person. On top of that, they train constantly and are on par with Olympic level athletes. Performances in the ring are hard, even if 'they know how to fall,' and injuries mount up. This gives your average pro wrestler an incredible tolerance for pain.

Add in the fact that they know how to utilize their strength to the best of their ability, and you have a recipe that just says 'do not try to fight this person.' And yet, there are always those people who think that they should try.

During a Lucha Libre event, La Parka and his opponent were brawling out in the crowd. One fan decides to get involved in the match, and soon learns why one does not mess with La Parka.

#6: Chris Hero (Kassius Ohno) brawls with some unruly fans.

Chris Hero before he was known as Kassius Ohno.

Fans who do not follow the independent scene and solely watch WWE may not be aware that Kassius Ohno had a long and illustrious career before he even signed with NXT.

For over a decade, he was known as Chris Hero, billed from Metropolis, and was one of the independent wrestling scene darlings. Hero would hold the PWG championship, the Ring of Honor World Title, and many other regional championships during his independent scene run.

During his time in the independent scene, Chris Hero developed a reputation as a rock solid worker who could have a great match with anyone.

He also developed a reputation for doing anything-anything--to get the fans riled up and emotionally involved in his matches. Unfortunately, some fans at small venue show took exception to some remarks by the in heel character Hero, and things got out of hand fast.

#7: CM Punk gets fed up.

CM Punk was roughed up by some fans, then did some roughing up of his own.
CM Punk was roughed up by some fans, then did some roughing up of his own.

While there will always be those who give Phillip Jack Boots--better known by his ring name of CM Punk--a hard time because of his short and disappointing Mixed Martial Arts career, it should not be overlooked that he both had the courage to get into the ring and the training to not get killed while in there.

Yes, it's true that CM Punk is hardly the master of Muay Thai and Gracie Ju Jitsu that his initial ECW character was meant to be. It's also true that he's a man who has spent two decades performing a physically demanding sport with no offseason where he often has to lift up men twice his size.

In short, messing with CM Punk if you are not a trained UFC fighter is probably a bad idea. We have a feeling this fan has a unique understanding of that when he pushes CM Punk just one time too many.
