7 times Roman Reigns lost clean in WWE

Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns is the current Universal champion

It is a well-known fact that Roman Reigns does not lose much. Even if the Big Dog is defeated, it would mostly include some sort of distractions or interference. He is incredibly protected by WWE, and is projected as the face of the company. Vince McMahon sees him as the heir to John Cena.

However, there have been occasions where the big dog was tamed. This list will focus on such matches where Roman Reigns was defeated cleanly.

Note: This list does not include multi-man matches and only focuses on singles matches. Also, this list does not include Money in the Bank cash-ins. Sorry, Sheamus. Also, it is not necessary that all these matches ended in a pinfall or submission.

#7. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins - Money in the Bank 2016

Reigns' former Shield brother was the first superstar to defeat him clean in a singles match. Rollins just returned from an injury that forced him to relinquish the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and was directly inserted into the title picture.

This match involved a brilliant spot where Rollins countered a spear into a Pedigree for a near fall. Reigns couldn't answer the referee's call after Rollins delivered another Pedigree. However, this night will be always remembered as the night where all three Shield members held the top prize in WWE as Dean Ambrose cashed in on a tired Rollins to become the new World Champion.

#6. Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor - RAW

Since RAW representatives Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins failed to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Smackdown Live's Dean Ambrose at WWE Battleground, Stephanie McMahon introduced a new world championship for RAW.

Roman Reigns and Finn Balor won their respective Fatal 4-way matches to qualify for the semi-final, where the winner would take on Seth Rollins at Summerslam to become the inaugural Universal Champion. Finn Balor was a recent draftee from NXT, so all the odds were against the Irish superstar. But he shocked the entire WWE Iniverse when he pinned the Big Dog after hitting a single Coup de Grace to qualify for the SummerSlam match, and eventually became the first ever Universal Champion.

#5. Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman - WWE Payback 2017

This was the match that helped elevate Braun Strowman from a random big guy to one of the most over guys in the industry. Strowman manhandled the Big Dog - he even went as far as to kick out of a spear, which is something that is still rare. It took two running power slams for Braun to tame the Big Dog, which led to Roman's first clean loss in around 9 months.

#4. Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman (again) - WWE Great Balls of Fire 2017

This is the only entry in this list that does not involve a pinfall finish, as this was an ambulance match. Braun tossed Roman like a toy, while Reigns made major comebacks. Eventually, Braun won after dodging a spear that sent Roman into the ambulance. Braun closed the door to win his second consecutive victory over Roman.

However, when he was celebrating, Braun was attacked by Roman, who tried to murder him by crashing the ambulance with Braun in it.

#3. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins (again) - RAW

Seth Rol
As of now, Strowman and Rollins are the only two superstars to beat Roman clean twice

This was probably the best RAW episode of 2018. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns kicked off the wrestling-heavy RAW that was scheduled to have a 7 man gauntlet match involving all the participants of the men's Elimination Chamber match. Reigns and Rollins went on to have a 21-minute match which ended with Rollins rolling up Reigns for the pinfall victory.

Rollins' endurance was lauded by critics all over the world as he went on to have a 28-minute match against John Cena and an 8-minute bout against the Drifter, Elias.

#2. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar - Wrestlemania 34

This was one of the most poorly received Wrestlemania main events in history. The fans were sure that Brock Lesnar's contract was expiring and he would be dropping the belt to the Big Dog. The crowd did not even give much attention to the match and started playing with beach balls when Reigns started kicking out of Lesnar's F-5's one by one.

However, to everyone's surprise, a seventh F-5 put the Big Dog to rest. Brock Lesnar pinned Reigns and retained his Universal Championship.

#1. Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley - WWE Extreme Rules 2018

Enter capti

As of now, Bobby Lashley is the last guy to beat Roman Reigns clean. He defeated Reigns in their "bragging rights" match at Extreme Rules 2018. It took only one spear from Lashley to hold Roman down to the referee's count of three.
