The overall ratings of WWE Superstars in the WWE 2K video games always causes a debate with fans.

In WWE 2K18, for example, Roman Reigns was the highest-rated Superstar (95/100), while John Cena '10 (94), Brock Lesnar and The Rock (both 93) were also among the top characters to play as.

This year’s upcoming WWE 2K19 game, which is released on 9 October, has been making headlines over the last few days after dozens of prominent WWE YouTubers released footage of the game-play, and the ratings of each Superstar have now finally been revealed.

In this article, let's take a look at the seven WWE Superstars with the highest ratings in the game.

It’s worth noting that while Ronda Rousey isn’t included in this list, she is the highest-rated of all the females with an overall rating of 87.

Six male WWE Superstars have been given a respectable rating of 91 – AJ Styles, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, The Rock ’01, Sting ’99 and Triple H ’01 – but there are still seven others who appear ahead of them.

Current performers Braun Strowman, John Cena, Kurt Angle and Triple H all have a rating of 89, while Seth Rollins (88) and Dean Ambrose (86) are rated relatively low compared to previous years.

The rest of the highest-rated spots are taken up by legends including Randy Savage ‘92 and Ultimate Warrior (both 90).

#1 Daniel Bryan ‘13 (92 rating)

Given that Daniel Bryan has a whole showcase mode dedicated to his career in WWE 2K19, it’s no surprise that he is among the top Superstars in the game.

Interestingly, the 2014 version of D-Bry – the year he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania XXX – only has a rating of 89.

However, if you choose to play as him during his remarkable rise to the top in 2013 when he defeated John Cena at SummerSlam and had feuds with Randy Orton and the Wyatt Family, you will see his rating rise by three to 92.

The 2013 version is the best John Cena in the game

John Cena was WWE’s top guy for over a decade, winning 16 world championships between 2005 and 2017, and you can play as three different versions of his character on this year’s game: 2003, 2013 and 2018.

His 2003 rookie character only has a rating of 82 and his modern-day character has a fairly low 89 rating, but the 2013 version of “Big Match John” is among the top Superstars in the game with a 92 rating.

That was the year he defeated The Rock in the main event of WrestleMania 29 to win the WWE Championship.

Roman Reigns has been knocked off the top spot this year

Roman Reigns’ astronomical 95 rating in WWE 2K18 prompted a lot of complaints from players of the game, so it’s no surprise that his rating has decreased by three in WWE 2K19.

“The Big Dog” has cemented his status as the top guy in WWE throughout 2018, bouncing back from his defeats to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 and the Greatest Royal Rumble to finally conquer "The Beast" and win the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

Shawn Michaels is always among the highest-rated Superstars in video games

If rumours are true and Shawn Michaels comes out of retirement to team with Triple H against The Brothers of Destruction, WWE 2K19 players will have a tough decision to make: do they play as his 1997 character or his 2005 character?

His 2005 persona has been given a rating of 88 in this year’s game, while the 1997 version of HBK – the year of the Montreal Screwjob sees his rating sky-rocket to 92.

#5 Steve Austin (92 rating)

Unlike several other WWE legends in the game, WWE 2K19 features just one version of WWE 2K16 cover star “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

His rating of 92 is the same as WWE 2K18 but down from the huge rating of 95 that he received in WWE 2K17.

Just like last year, he is rated one lower than one of his most famous rivals (hint, hint...).

WWE is reportedly keen for The Rock to compete at WrestleMania 35

If you want to play as The Rock in WWE 2K19, his 2001 character has a rating of 91 – the same as cover star AJ Styles.

However, to stand a better chance of beating opponents, players would be wise to select his modern-day character, which has the same 93 rating as WWE 2K18.

Given that “The Great One” hasn’t competed in WWE since an impromptu six-second match against Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 in 2016, this rating will be one of the big talking points among fans.

Brock Lesnar held the Universal title for 504 days

The highest-rated current WWE Superstar is none other than Brock Lesnar, whose rating of 93 stays the same from WWE 2K18, but he moves up the list from last year due to Roman Reigns’ new rating of 92 and the omission of John Cena '10 from the game.

With full-time Superstars including Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman not even making the top seven on this list, a rating of 93 for part-time Superstar Lesnar is sure to cause controversy with some players of the game.
