Best and Worst of Impact Wrestling- Strange love triangle storyline, Surprising return

The Demon Assassin returned to action on this week's show
The Demon Assassin returned to action on this week's show

Impact Wrestling put on a fun show this week, that wasn't monumental like some other shows were, but still made for some genuinely fun television. Personally, I thought that this was an okay show, and there were definite 'worsts' to note.

Impact Wrestling's biggest issue right now is that however good the product may be, very few people are watching it. The number of people on the Twitch stream did not even hit 4000 this week, and that is very worrying indeed.

I do hope that more people tune in and watch the show because it is not bad at all. Time moves by so fast, that by the end of it most people wouldn't really mind another hour of wrestling action.

Anyway, here's my best and worst assessment from the said show...

#1 Best: The return of Rosemary to a thunderous applause

Everybody loves Rosemary. They especially do so in Canada where the mortal vessel of the immortal Demon Assassin originally hails from.

She would interrupt what seemed like a throwaway match between Alexia Nicole and Jordynne Grace against Kiera Hogan and Madison Rayne, and receive thunderous applause from those present in the arena. While she has not really been away in the truest sense of the word, it was great to see her return after her recent break.

It is amply clear that Impact Wrestling does not want Rosemary to become the Knockouts Champion yet and they're doing everything to keep her away from the title picture at this point in time. But whatever the case may be, Rosemary is more over than anyone else in the roster at this point in time, and having her show up in any role helps the show.

I'd like to see Rosemary vs. Madison Rayne for sure.

#1 Worst: The worst acting ever

Because the nature of professional wrestling is make-believe, every wrestler is also an actor. But the standards of acting acceptable in a wrestling show are far inferior to that in any other television program, in my opinion.

I thought that Ace Austin and Alicia Edwards in particularly were awful as they enacted a sequence designed to make Eddie Edwards jealous. I think that Eddie for his part can do justice to his role of a crazed and deranged madman and jealous husband, but unfortunately the other two fall short.

Honestly, this is a storyline that could be better served by say, having Johnny, Taya, and Ace do it because Johnny and Taya actually seem like better actors. Alicia Edwards has a long way to go before she reaches the requisite level.

That said, Ace Austin vs. Eddie Edwards could be a pretty good feud, especially to elevate the former.

#2 Best: The pep talk

A lot of times when pro wrestlers deliver their lines, it does not connect with the audience. This is because while they can memorize and read out lines, the fire and delivery needed to really touch and connect with the crowd are often missing. Tommy Dreamer's promo delivered backstage to Tessa Blanchard was a masterclass in what a good promo should be like.

I wasn't even enthused about the main event match when it was announced. I wasn't sold on the match once I saw it. But honestly, Dreamer's promo pretty much convinced me that this was a match to watch, and I hope that the younger talent learns from the living legend.

I don't really know how much I like the Dreamer and Tessa pairing but at the same time, if this was just a team put together to make this week's show happen, I can dig it.

#2 Worst: Taya and John E. Bravo and dog-excrement

Speaking of bad actors, John E. Bravo is certainly the foremost name in the list by some distance. I know that Impact Wrestling tried to do a comedy segment where Taya gets him to 'fetch her ball' quite metaphorically.

Bravo is depicted as the obedient pet to Taya, who is so far down the food chain that he's even lower down than her actual pet dog is. She caters to Valkyrie's every whim and that too of her dog, one that has no control over its bladders, like most dogs. Bravo uses a silk handkerchief to scoop dog excrement off the sidewalk.

I would like to liken this segment to the dog excrement in question because even good and talented actors would not have been able to save the segment. I thought that this was the most awful thing in the show by a fair margin.

#3 Best: Desi Hit Squad to work at the Deaner compound

Remember the episode of Seinfeld where George Costanza pitches a show where a man is forced to be his butler? I have a feeling that the segment between The Deaners and the Desi Hit Squad was influenced by the same.

I loved the fact that there were actual stakes during the match, even though the match in itself was nothing to write home about. If the Desi Hit Squad won, The Deaners would become their servants, and if The Deaners won the match, the Desi Hit Squad would have to work in the Deaner compound.

The Deaners won the match and I'm glad they did because we'll see a change in scenery and get a chance to see The Desi Hit Squad outside the arena. It could certainly lead to some very comedic moments indeed.

It could also be a total train wreck.

#3 Worst: The Rascalz lose to a makeshift team

Did I enjoy the match between Swann, Mack and Rob Van Dam against The Rascalz this week? I thought that it may have even been the best match of the night, ahead of every 'best', I've mentioned.

Why is this in the worst column then? I believe that wins and losses do matter and when a cohesive team like The Rascalz loses to a group just thrown together at the last minute, it affects their momentum.

Bear in mind that this is a team that came in with a lot of steam, but then lost to The North in their quest to become Impact Tag Team Champions. All 3 of the men in the group have the talent and the ability to branch out and become breakout X Division stars, and they deserve better booking.

Continuous losses will only hurt their momentum and take away their steam entirely!

#4 Best/Worst: Moose defeats Bahh

Fallah Bahh has really lost a lot of weight and is moving better than ever right now. I just think the fact that he lost to Moose puts him right back where he started once again, and this is not necessarily a good thing. Maybe trading wins with Moose wasn't the best idea.

But then again, Moose is going to enter the world title picture somewhere down the line and Brian Cage vs. Moose does seem like it's going to be quite a program if it happens. Therefore, I am okay with the fact that Moose scored the pin.

If anyone watched the show on Twitch, one of my favorite moments was the sight of Ethan Page annoying Melissa Santos to such a point that she dropped F-Bombs.

Page can be really annoying and this is a great character for him if he's allowed to ever play it.
