Both World Champions will defend their coveted titles at Clash of Champions.
Both World Champions will defend their coveted titles at Clash of Champions.

In less than a month, WWE will present its tenth pay-per-view of the year - Clash of Champions. The event will take place on September 15 and will emanate live from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. It will be the third event in the Clash of Champions chronology with the last event taking place in December 2017. Clash of Champions will stream live on the WWE Network and on pay-per-view.

WWE has indicated that every active championship (including the relatively new 24/7 Championship) must be defended at the pay-per-view. This means that all championships across Raw, SmackDown Live and 205 Live must be put on the line. Hence, Clash of Champions will feature 10 to 11 championship matches.

In addition, WWE has announced that the finals of the prestigious King of the Ring tournament will be held at the titular pay-per-view. A SmackDown Women's Championship match has been scheduled between Charlotte Flair and Bayley at the event, too.

As WWE kicks off its fall season, fans ought to expect a star-studded card for Clash of Champions that will feature WWE's most talented stars. WWE has already started some very intriguing rivalries that could lead up to great things at Clash of Champions.

Here are 3 matches that must take place at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view.

#4 Shinsuke Nakamura vs The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship

Nakamura and Sami Zayn forged an alliance recently.
Nakamura and Sami Zayn forged an alliance recently.

This past week on SmackDown Live, Sami Zayn was a guest on Miz TV. Zayn formally announced an odd alliance with the Intercontinental Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura, much to the surprise of the host of Miz TV. Nakamura would assault The Miz and lay him out with a devastating Kinshasa. The new pair would then gloat over a fallen Miz.

Although The Miz is a Raw superstar, the Wild Card Rule would allow him to compete for the Intercontinental Championship, which is exclusive to SmackDown Live. Nakamura and Miz are two of the most overlooked and under-utilized stars on the main roster today.

A rivalry between these two should give both a much-needed boost and impetus. Sami Zayn's involvement will only spice things up. Nakamura vs The Miz is the right direction for the Intercontinental Championship moving forward.

#3 Roman Reigns and Buddy Murphy vs Daniel Bryan and Rowan

Daniel Bryan and Rowan have been accused of attacking Reigns.
Daniel Bryan and Rowan have been accused of attacking Reigns.

Over the past month, Roman Reigns has been involved in two near-fatal incidents that were carried out by an unknown assailant. Buddy Murphy was a witness in one of those incidents and claimed it was Rowan when Reigns shoved his head into the wall. The following week, Rowan used aggression to force Murphy to admit that he lied. Daniel Bryan and Rowan went to extreme lengths to prove their innocence by finding the "real culprit". Bryan and Rowan blamed a man who looks very similar to Rowan.

Although the whodunnit angle continues, one could safely assume that Rowan was the culprit and Bryan the mastermind. Murphy has been insulted by Bryan on a couple of occasions and was also called a "cowardly liar". After Murphy defeated Bryan on SmackDown Live, Rowan attacked him backstage and Bryan taunted him again.

Reigns seems to be on the verge of a showdown with Bryan and Rowan, but he can't face them alone as the numbers are not in his favour. Reigns would need a partner and Murphy seems like the best fit.

#2 Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch for the Raw Women's Championship

Sasha Banks is back.
Sasha Banks is back.

To the delight of the live crowd, The Boss returned on the night after SummerSlam to seemingly comfort and support an injured Natalya. However, Sasha Banks attacked a defenceless Natalya which prompted Becky Lynch to come out in the latter's support. After a scuffle, Banks unloaded on Lynch with a steel chair and stood tall over the Raw Women's Champion. Banks is back with a fire lit deep inside of her and she won't relent until she gets what she wants.

Banks vs Lynch seems like the perfect direction moving into Clash of Champions. Lynch has had a good reign as the champion, but she might have found her match in the Boss. The Boss vs The Man is a money-making match for the women's division.

Banks is red-hot right now and deserves a shot at the Raw Women's Championship, especially after what she did to Natalya and Lynch. WWE has a potential Match of the Year candidate in their hands and they ought to capitalize on this opportunity.

#1 Seth Rollins vs Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship

The new Raw tag-team champs could fight for the Universal title in the near future.
The new Raw tag-team champs could fight for the Universal title in the near future.

Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins are two of the WWE Universe's favorite stars and they both have mutual respect for each other. Strowman and Rollins successfully dispatched The O.C together. The unlikely duo won the Raw Tag-Team Championship from Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

Although they have come to each other's aid quite a few times, Strowman has shown a keen interest in Rollins' Universal Championship. Even after they won the Raw Tag-Team Titles, Strowman couldn't keep his eyes off the Universal Championship. One wonders for how long can these two stars continue as a team, especially with Strowman so desperate for a Universal Championship shot.

Strowman has never won the Universal Championship, in spite of all the opportunities he has had over the last few years. As of last week, Dave Meltzer reported that Strowman vs Rollins was the plan for Clash of Champions. Strowman vs Rollins for the Universal Championship is a mouth-watering prospect.
