Clash of Champions 2019: 5 Reasons why Luke Harper returned to attack Roman Reigns

This was, by far, the biggest development from the show

Roman Reigns vs. Rowan was very high up on the Clash of Champions card. It was the co-main event in a sense because the WWE Championship match went on before it.

This was certainly very odd as this was the only match on the show without a title on the line. But then, we realized why this was the case when Luke Harper returned out of nowhere to align himself with Erick Rowan and attack Roman Reigns.

So why did Luke Harper return and more specifically, why was he inserted into this storyline and not something else? I shall endeavor to answer this question through this very article.

I invite you all to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts in the section below...

#5 Scoring a clean victory over Reigns wouldn't have been wise

All said and done; even though he is not in the title picture, Roman Reigns is still very much the biggest star in WWE.

He is the locker room leader, and he's the man who is booked in feuds that can elevate talents and help them get over with the audience. In many ways, he's more important than the WWE Championship picture, if you consider the fact that his matches usually go on after the WWE Championship matches usually take place.

For Rowan, who's a very promising star but is nowhere near the level of Roman Reigns to beat him clean would have been absolutely unwise. Roman Reigns is protected for a reason and this is why every victory against him is meaningful. The fact that he lost owing to Harper's interference protects Reigns singificantly.

Working with Reigns will elevate Harper too. And truth be told, someone like Luke Harper certainly needs the rub.

#4 Possibly allows Daniel Bryan to turn babyface

One would assume that Luke Harper's return signals the return of the Bludgeon Brothers to WWE television once again. Roman Reigns can do a lot of extraordinary things, but honestly even he can't take on two men at the very same time. And this allows Daniel Bryan to turn babyface and become a crowd favorite once again.

SmackDown moves to FOX and a draft is coming our way for sure in the following weeks and months. I suppose that both FOX and the USA Network will keep a keen eye on viewership and one of the surest ways to ensure this is to bring top babyfaces back.

As good as Bryan is as a heel, maybe there's just money and value in him as the man who orchestrated the 'Yes' movement.

Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan could make a very formidable alliance on WWE television.

#3 Rowan doesn't have the necessary charisma to carry a program alone

I don't mean to sound disrespectful to Erick Rowan and dilute what he can do, but somehow he lacks the presence that a top heel should have. Maybe it's because he's been in factions for far too long, but he just doesn't seem like a main event player to me, right now.

There are rumors aplenty that he is getting the same push that Lars Sullivan was supposed to get before an injury put him back on the shelf again. Somehow Sullivan for all of his inexperience still seems like a bigger main event star to me, at this time.

But when you pair Rowan with Luke Harper, the equation changes significantly. Maybe it gets revealed in due course of time, that it was Harper who was the mastermind behind the attacks on Roman Reigns.

Maybe they both reunite with Bray Wyatt.

#2 To bolster the tag team division

I quite liked the two tag team matches in the Clash of Champions 2019 card. I thought that The Revival and The New Day had a pretty fast-paced and interesting matchup from start to finish. I also thought that Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman had a great match against Dolph Ziggler and the Glorious One himself, Robert Roode.

And yet, if you look at the build for both matches, they've been very disappointing indeed, I fear. The Revival and The New Day did not even do a segment in the go-home show of SmackDown Live before the pay-per-view event actually took place. And when it comes to the RAW Tag Team Championship picture, the four men involved aren't even really actual tag team Superstars.

The return of the Bludgeon Brothers will revive the tag team division. I also like the new look with both men wearing heavy metal shirts and not those maroon outfits.

#1 Too talented to just be sitting on the sidelines

Luke Harper has always been touted as a man who is destined for great things, but something or the other always gets in the way of his greatness. Case in point, his singles runs haven't panned out like they should have despite the fact that he's always been a phenomenal performer.

We all know that he put in a request for a release and that six months were added to his contract following the request. I would not like to speculate about his status until more news comes in but what I'll say that he's too talented to just be benched.

A Superstar like Luke Harper is an asset wherever you have him in the card and this is his opportunity to remind us of that, with the latest run. This is the main reason why he was brought back by Vince McMahon and WWE.
