The names of CM Punk and AJ Lee are not fondly uttered much or at all these days in the WWE sphere. Both Punk and Lee have burned their bridges to a possibly irreparable extent with the multi-billion dollar conglomerate, for variety of reasons.

To make matters worse, WWE sent CM Punk his termination letter on the day that he tied the matrimonial knot with AJ Lee on June 13th, 2014.

CM Punk walked out of the WWE in January 2014 citing burnout and differences between him and the WWE regarding his creative direction. CM Punk later made scathing accusations, regarding the WWE’s medical team, which lead to a lawsuit filed by WWE’s senior ringside physician DR Chris Amann.

Lee followed the footsteps of her then-fiance and retired from the WWE.

The couple's love story began in the WWE, where the two went from being involved in a storyline, to being in a relationship and ultimately engaged and married in a span of just two years.

CM Punk since then has gone on to become a professional UFC fighter and Lee has decided to pursue her career as an animal rights activist and to write her memoir, which is set for an April 2017 release.

On this note, let’s take a look at 5 things you probably didn’t know AJ Lee and CM Punk

#5 CM Punk and AJ Lee to co-star in a movie

The couple could make their big screen debut

CM Punk and AJ Lee were involved in an on-screen storyline for a major portion of 2012, with Lee trying to win Punk’s affection and then later trying to sabotage the championship reign of the WWE Champion, as the RAW general manager.

After that, they never really had any on-screen stories together. However, both could be set to co-star together in an action/horror movie. The couple is set to make their acting debut in the film called ‘Hellstorm’ whose filming began late last year.

The movie will be written and directed by William Butler, and the theme revolves around a post-apocalyptic, monster-filled setting. During a Q&A session, Punk noted that he was initially reluctant to accept the offer, as he was training for his UFC debut, but the producers kept coming back with improved offers.

One of the offers turned out to be one that he just couldn’t refuse. The release date for the movie is yet to be made official.

So if you are a CM Punk fan or an AJ Lee fan or a fan of both who misses them in an on-screen capacity, you probably wouldn’t want to miss this.

#4 Shared love for comic books

CM Punk and AJ Lee both share a love for sequential art

Nothing brings people closer than common interests, and one of the interests that are deeply ingrained in the lives of both CM Punk and AJ Lee is their mutual admiration for comic books

AJ Lee has never been shy to express her appreciation for comic art. Lee is a self-admitted comic book nerd, and her love for it dates back to when she was 10 years old. She credits her brother for indulging her into the world of comics, and she’s a huge Marvel fan.

Some of her favourites include X-Men, Spiderman and Fantastic Four. She also cited Harley Quinn as someone she tried to pattern her on-screen persona after.

Like his wife, CM Punk is a comic book aficionado and like his wife, his interest in the comics also began at a very young age. Some of his favourite strips include G.I. Joe and The Punisher. CM Punk’s famous war cry when he used to make his way down the ramp ‘It’s Clobberin’ Time’, was also inspired by Marvel’s Fantastic Four character The Thing.

CM Punk took his passion and turned it into a small profession as he wrote the intro for Avengers vs. X-Men, co-authoring a Thor issue and becoming one of the regular writers for Drax.

#3 CM Punk loved Macho Man while AJ Lee idolised Miss Elizabeth

This is an instance of one wrestling couple inspiring another wrestling couple

‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth are considered one of the most influential couples in the history of the WWE and the first couple of professional wrestling, were one of the inspirations for CM Punk and AJ Lee when they were growing up as wrestling fans.

It’s kind of cool to know that each half of a couple from the past were the childhood favourites of each half of a couple from the present.

AJ Lee has always called Miss Elizabeth one of her idols when discussing her time growing up as a wrestling fan. There were a lot of parallels drawn between the characters of Mizz Elizabeth and AJ Lee (when she was in the corner of Daniel Bryan), which were highlighted by their innocence.

However, AJ always maintained that she had a long way to go to reach the level of Miss Elizabeth but at the same time appreciated the comparisons.

CM Punk was always known within the industry and amongst fans, as someone who was very passionate about the history of the business. CM Punk has mentioned that growing up the Macho Man Randy Savage was one of his favourites and thought he was one of the most coolest guys in professional wrestling – past or present.

When Macho Man passed away in 2011, CM Punk wore his Wrestlemania III attire of pink trunks, yellow pads and boots as a tribute and also integrating a version of his patented elbow drop as part of his move-set.

#2 CM Punk’s and AJ Lee’s relationship was publicised at a baseball game

Punk and Lee were captured seated at a baseball game in Wrigley Field

CM Punk and AJ Lee are both notorious within the industry for being reserved and introverted and keeping their personal lives out of media’s eye for the most part. Even their wedding was a very private affair with scarce attendance.

Therefore, it was natural that both would have tried to stay quiet about their relationship in the early days, as Punk was just getting out of a relationship with a lady that will be the focus of the next slide. It could also be just because neither wanted unnecessary public scrutiny and attention.

In October and November of 2013, snaps surfaced on social media of the former WWE Champion and the former WWE Divas Champion, attending a baseball game at Wrigley Field.

This served as a natural jump-start for rumours regarding the status of the relationship of Punk and Lee. Mexican legend and former WCW superstar, Konnan, in his series of MLW podcast, stated that CM Punk and AJ Lee were indeed an item.

Later on, both were pictured a dozen of times spotted in attendance for baseball games which essentially confirmed that the two were indeed a couple. CM Punk also blocked many Twitter users who brought up the topic and the name of AJ Lee in the tweets, addressing the Straight Edge Superstar.

#1 History with Lita

CM Punk was in a relationship with Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas before he courted AJ Lee

Dating within the industry always comes with its complications, but the interrelations of the events between CM Punk, Lita and AJ Lee is quite unusual. It’s even weirder that both CM Punk and AJ Lee share some history with Lita at different points in their life.

CM Punk dated Lita from 2012-13 and even accompanied Punk early in 2013 to the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. They reportedly had a fallout and broke up in the following months. Later in the year, Punk started dating AJ Lee.

The duo allegedly had heat with Lita, which is why it was claimed that if CM Punk didn’t walk out of the WWE early in 2014, we might not have seen Lita inducted into the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame.

A 14-year old AJ Lee getting an autograph from Lita in 2001

Along with Miss Elizabeth, one of AJ Lee’s favourites growing up was Lita. So it was no surprise that AJ was overwhelmed when she finally got the opportunity to meet Lita during an autograph session in July of 2001.

This was when Lita was riding high in the WWE and was one of the most popular women’s wrestlers, while AJ Lee was just in her early teenage years rocking a Lita shirt crying tears of joy. Everything regarding this still stands as a bizarre and uncanny coincidence.
