Crown Jewel 2019: 5 biggest questions from the pay-per-view

Crown Jewel left fans asking many questions
Crown Jewel left fans asking many questions

Crown Jewel began with a lot of hype, as there were some huge matches scheduled for the event. WWE enlisted the services of former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez and Boxing Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury to add a lot more excitement to the PPV.

The action was decent all through the night, and fans got a mix of expected and unexpected results, which surely made things much more interesting.

The first women’s match in Saudi Arabia also added to all the excitement, but couldn’t stop fans from asking many questions by the end of the night. From a few booking decisions to segments that will follow the event and the future of some Superstars, there are many questions fans will need answers to.

In this article, we will look at the five biggest questions that WWE will have to answer after Crown Jewel, and how the company could make things interesting going forward.

#5 When will it be CesaroMania?

Cesaro has put a number of Superstars over recently
Cesaro has put a number of Superstars over recently

If I had to pick one miracle worker in WWE, I’d pick Cesaro.

The man can put up a great fight against any opponent on any given day and come out looking strong while making his opponent look even stronger. There’s no move the Superstar can’t pull off, and he has become one of the crowd favorites over the years.

At Crown Jewel, Cesaro was one of the few men who got a singles match for the night. In fact, his match was one of the most anticipated ones for the local crowd as he was up against the local hero, Mansoor.

While WWE could have put Mansoor up against anyone with much lesser credibility, they chose Cesaro for a very specific reason, only because no one can do things the way Cesaro can.

As a selfless wrestler, it’s heartbreaking to see Cesaro not get his chance to shine as a singles competitor. He’s one of the few wrestlers one can imagine outsmarting and overpowering Brock Lesnar.

With that said, Cesaro hasn’t gotten a top Championship match in the company for years and was mostly in the tag team picture with Shaemus. WWE should start investing more in Cesaro and make him a World Champion, before it gets too late.

#4 Have the floodgates been broken?

They knew exactly what they were doing
They knew exactly what they were doing

The highpoint of the night was arguably the women’s match that did more than anyone could have ever asked for.

For the first time in WWE’s history, two of their female Superstars squared off in a ring in Saudi Arabia, as Lacey Evans and Natalya rekindled their rivalry. This was a big step in the right direction, and the company was able to silence numerous credits by doing the right thing.

Not only was the match a big success for the women’s division, but it was also a good one to watch.

The emotions on the faces of both Evans and Natalya, coupled with their performance, showed the world what it meant to them. Looks like WWE picked the right pairing to make a statement in the Kingdom.

Post the event, fans have been left asking whether this iconic match will lead to more announced female matches in Saudi Arabia in the future, and will we see a Women’s Championship match in their ring the next time the company returns there?

If this happens, then we can safely say that WWE has made a huge change in the Middle East by producing something many believed was impossible.

#3 What’s next for Braun Strowman?

Will the company continue this rivalry?
Will the company continue this rivalry?

Braun Strowman fought in one of the most high profile matches of his career but went to sleep even before he could be pinned or could pin Tyson Fury.

Strowman was knocked out by the Boxing Heavyweight Champion, and lost via count out as he could not make it back to the ring to beat the 10-count. This was yet another high-profile loss for the Monster Among Men who seems to be unable to get through and win a big one to put under his belt.

Strowman has only managed to win a few Battle Royals and tag team Championships in his career, which is odd for a man his size. Considering the fact that he was one of the most celebrated Superstars in the company a little over a year ago, and had a good chance to win the vacated Universal Championship at last year’s Crown Jewel, it’s a real bummer to see where the Superstar is heading now.

His last big opportunity saw him fall down the ranks against Seth Rollins, and now his defeat against Fury raises the question - what’s next for the big guy?

Will the company bury this match, feud, and embarrassment for Strowman in Saudi Arabia and start afresh on Friday Night SmackDown, or will they continue this storyline in the weeks to come?

Will Strowman start building up once again, or will the company try to push him into yet another Championship scene against The Fiend? There are many questions that the company would need to address in the upcoming weeks on SmackDown.

#2 Was that really a grudge match?

There was much more action after the match than during it
There was much more action after the match than during it

A rivalry that began in the Octagon, and spilled over to the squared circle finally got going on Thursday Night.

Brock Lesnar wanted to avenge his loss in the Octagon from Cain Velasquez, while Cain was after Lesnar’s WWE Championship and also wanted to avenge the Lesnar’s attacks on Rey Mysterio and his son. The storyline was well written, the heavyweights were in place, but the booking was all over the place.

Once Lesnar managed to target Cain’s knee, he trapped him in a Kimura lock for a quick tap out win. Was that all the two men could offer to the Saudi Arabian crowd and the WWE Universe after all that build up? Was that really a grudge match?

After the dust settled, it seems like the entire big match was just a set up for a future smaller match between Rey Mysterio and Brock Lesnar. It was interesting, yet confusing, to see the smaller Mysterio do a better job against The Beast than the man who scarred Lesnar’s face.

With The Fiend winning the Universal Championship, we could see RAW pick Lesnar in order to bring him and his WWE Championship to the Red Brand. In that case, it seems like a Lesnar vs Mysterio storyline will keep the fans pumped for weeks to come.

#1 Did Bray Wyatt win the Universal Championship?

At this point, we could actually have two Universal Champions
At this point, we could actually have two Universal Champions

This was arguably the best decision the company made during the night, as Seth Rollins looked to defend his Universal Championship once again against The Fiend.

The violent and brutal nature of the match was everything fans wanted to see and with The Fiend winning the Universal Championship, the era of terror in WWE has truly begun, one that can change the meaning of the Championship altogether.

Now that The Fiend holds the Universal Championship, and the title will be a part of SmackDown, it will be interesting to see whether Bray Wyatt also comes out as the Universal Champion or not.

He is scheduled to be on Miz TV this Friday Night on SmackDown, and we could see him come out with no clue as to what happened on Thursday Night. That would be interesting and could build on Wyatt’s character and gimmick even more, as fans are finding interest in the dual-personality.

Wyatt is great on the mic, while The Fiend has no voice of his own, and the two characters could make things much more interesting on the Blue Brand with the Universal Championship in hand. How the company will book The Fiend going forward will be interesting to see.
