A few surprises can unfold at Extreme Rules 2020

We are all set for WWE’s next pay-per-view, The Horror Show at Extreme Rules. This final big event before SummerSlam 2020 will see quite a few titles on the line. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is set to defend his gold against Dolph Ziggler.

Both the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships will be on the line. Asuka is set to defend her title against Sasha Banks whereas Bayley will be putting her Championship on the line in her match against Nikki Cross.

Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman are set to lock horns in a Wyatt Swamp Fight, but the Universal Championship won’t be on the line. The New Day will look to defend their SmackDown Tag Team titles against Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura. Lastly, Apollo Crews is set to defend his United States Championship against MVP.

In this article, we will take a look at things that should and shouldn’t happen at Extreme Rules 2020. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

#3 Shouldn’t happen at Extreme Rules: Bayley loses her SmackDown Women’s Championship

Are we heading closer to this much-awaited rivalry
Are we heading closer to this much-awaited rivalry

SmackDown Superstar Nikki Cross picked a win in a fatal four-way match and won the opportunity to challenge Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules. She has previously challenged Bayley in Single’s matches, but the Champion has always dominated their encounters.

The SmackDown Women’s Championship should not change hands at Extreme Rules. WWE have worked hard to build up an inevitable feud between Bayley and her best friend, Sasha Banks. The latter is set to challenge Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship. If she loses in her match and Bayley wins, WWE will have a perfect opportunity to possibly fire up the betrayal storyline at the PPV.

Nikki Cross is a talented Superstar but she has not been dominant in the last few months. Most importantly, a win for her will completely halt a brilliant storyline that has been in the making for months. It would be better if Bayley retains her title at Extreme Rules and is eventually booked in a Championship match against Sasha Banks.

#3 Should happen at Extreme Rules: Drew McIntyre retains his WWE Championship

The secrecy surrounding the WWE Championship match has kept the storyline interested

WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler moved to RAW last month and he immediately set his sights on the WWE Championship held by Drew McIntyre. Both Superstars used to work together in the past and McIntyre was mostly used as the muscle by Ziggler. But now, it is Ziggler who will challenge Drew McIntyre in a WWE Championship match at Extreme Rules.

The stipulation of this match has not been revealed by WWE yet. It appears that the secret will be disclosed at the WWE PPV itself. According to the storyline, Dolph Ziggler has the advantage of picking a stipulation for the match and he said that it is something that the WWE Universe has never seen before.

This match is rumored to have a TLC stipulation, as was mistakenly advertised by WWE on Facebook. Regardless of the stipulation, Drew McIntyre should retain his title. He has been great as the WWE Champion and deserves a more compelling feud that will eventually put an end to his title reign on RAW.

After Extreme Rules, Drew McIntyre could engage in a feud with Randy Orton as the two Superstars are rumored to lock horns at SummerSlam.

#2 Shouldn’t happen at Extreme Rules: The New Day retain their SmackDown Tag Team Championships

Nakamura and Cesaro have a good shot at winning the title at Extreme Rules
Nakamura and Cesaro have a good shot at winning the title at Extreme Rules

Over the last few weeks, SmackDown Superstars Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro have started to pose a serious threat to The New Day’s title reign. They are now set to challenge Big E and Kofi Kingston for their SmackDown Tag Team Championships at Extreme Rules on Sunday. Earlier tonight on SmackDown, a win for Cesaro allowed him and Nakamura to pick a stipulation for the upcoming title match.

Cesaro and Nakamura decided that they want Tables to be involved in the Championship match at Extreme Rules. Both of them are extremely talented Superstars who deserve to be a part of title matches more often. Currently, they are the strongest challengers for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships and they should win it at Extreme Rules.

Ever since Sami Zayn decided to not attend the tapings, WWE have not done much with Cesaro and Nakamura. If they manage to become the Champions at the PPV, WWE can test Nakamura and Cesaro’s run and try different possibilities. That will allow the creative book them in another title match at SummerSlam, except they will walk in as the Champions.

#2 Should happen at Extreme Rules: Rey Mysterio gets his revenge in the Eye for an Eye match against Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio are set to meet in a grudge match

A long-standing feud on RAW might see its final match at Extreme Rules. When Seth Rollins turned heel, he started feuding with WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio. The masked legend of WWE somehow agitated the self-appointed Messiah of the Red brand.

Therefore, Rollins decided to press Rey Mysterio's face against the steel stairs next to the ring during a match on RAW, with an intention to damage his eye. Following that, Rey Mysterio was forced to take some time off from in-ring action.

In the absence of his nemesis, Seth Rollins continued to lead his disciples Buddy Murphy and Austin Theory in matches against the likes of Aleister Black and Humberto Carrillo.

This feud also saw Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik make an appearance on RAW, where he gave Seth Rollins and his Disciples a taste of their own medicine. Both Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio are now set to lock horns in a Single’s match at Extreme Rules.

A win for Rey Mysterio will help WWE put an end to their extended feud on RAW. That said, it is important to note that it is an ‘Eye for an Eye’ match. The stipulation implies that someone’s 'eye will be taken out'. WWE will reportedly use CGI to pull off the stipulation.

It would be better if Mysterio finds his much-deserved win to conclude this feud and move on to other storylines involving other WWE Superstars.

#1 Shouldn’t happen at Extreme Rules: Apollo Crews loses the United States Championship

Apollo Crews has a score to settle with MVP
Apollo Crews has a score to settle with MVP

WWE Superstar Apollo Crews has had a meteoric rise on RAW ever since the company started taping shows at the Performance Center. He was great in his feud with Andrade which ultimately helped him in winning the United States Championship for the first time in his career. He is now set to defend his title against MVP at Extreme Rules.

MVP, who mainly focuses on his role as Bobby Lashley’s manager, unveiled the new Championship belt when Apollo Crews missed the show due to an injury. MVP believes that he deserves to win the title for the third time and will look to beat Apollo Crews for the Championship at the upcoming PPV. Crews, however, should retain his title and deserves to be booked in few more interesting feuds before his title reign ends.

It has been rumored that Apollo Crews will soon turn heel in WWE. The creative have teased this shift in character for a few weeks now and it could all kickstart at Extreme Rules. A heel Champion would be good to establish the next challenger for Crews' United States Championship. In addition, it is possible that he will eventually end up in MVP’s stable.

#1 Should happen at Extreme Rules: Bray Wyatt beats Braun Strowman in Wyatt Swamp Fight

The Wyatt Swamp Fight is expected to be an interesting affair
The Wyatt Swamp Fight is expected to be an interesting affair

If there’s one match at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules that completely resonates with the theme, it is the Wyatt Swamp Match. This unique stipulation will see WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman locking horns with Bray Wyatt in a Single’s match that is bound to be cinematic and governed by a unique stipulation.

It is important to note that the upcoming Extreme Rules match between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt won’t have the Universal Championship on the line. Prior to this, both Superstars locked horns in a title match at Money in the Bank, and it was the ‘Monster Among Men’ who picked a convincing victory.

Therefore, it should be Bray Wyatt who wins this match at Extreme Rules in order to set up a third and final match against Braun Strowman at SummerSlam. That encounter will most probably be for the Universal Championship and Bray Wyatt might bring back ‘The Fiend’ persona to end this feud, which has been heavily influenced by the history shared between him and Braun Strowman.
