Extreme Rules 2020: 5 ways WWE can deliver a great show

Extreme Rules should be an exciting show
Extreme Rules should be an exciting show

Extreme Rules 2020, the next pay-per-view of WWE, is just a few days away, and it is scheduled to take place in the WWE Performance Center. With another pay-per-view behind closed doors, the company would love to make it more creative to entertain the fans.

Four titles will be defended at the event. Drew McIntyre, the WWE Champion, will go head to head with his former tag team partner, Dolph Ziggler. They will have a stipulation for the WWE Championship match, which will be revealed later.

MVP will challenge the United States Champion Apollo Crews, in a singles match. One half of the Women's Tag Team Champion, Sasha Banks, will take on Asuka for the RAW Championship match, while Bayley, the other half of the Women's Tag Team Champion, will put her SmackDown Women's Championship on the line against Nikki Cross.

Elsewhere, Braun Strowman will wrestle against Bray Wyatt in a Swamp match, but it will be a non-title match. Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins will have an Eye for an Eye match.

Given the match card, Extreme Rules has the potential to be a great show. Here, we look at five ways WWE could make Extreme Rules a great show.

#5 Apollo Crews picks up a clean victory

Apollo Crews's fortunes have change after winning the United States Championship. From being on the lower mid-card to being a significant name on the red brand, his transition has been incredible. Crews' first major test will be at Extreme Rules, where he will take on MVP.

Bobby Lashley, MVP's client, is likely to be present ringside, and he might try to influence the outcome of the match. It wouldn't be a great idea if Crews loses the US Championship due to interference from Lashley.

To elevate the stature of the title as well as Apollo Crews, he should pick up a clean victory at Extreme Rules, which might pave the way for a match between Bobby Lashley and Apollo Crews at SummerSlam.

#4 Seth Rollins wins the Eye for an Eye match and add a new disciple

While WWE Extreme Rules has several good matches on paper, the fans are waiting eagerly for the highly anticipated match between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio, especially for the bizarre stipulation. They are set to collide in an Eye for an Eye match, meaning whoever extracts his opponent's eye first will be declared the winner of the match.

On an episode of RAW, Seth Rollins, the leader of Monday Night Messiah, showed the wicked side of his character by taking out one eye of Rey Mysterio with the help of a steel stair. The incident certainly opened the possibility for the Eye for an Eye match.

Seth Rollins had an upper hand in this feud with the help of his disciples. However, the Monday Night Messiah suffered an unexpected defeat against Kevin Owens on the RAW before Extreme Rules, putting a question mark on his momentum heading into the big fight at WWE Extreme Rules.

If Rollins wants to continue his dominance on WWE RAW, he can't afford to lose at Extreme Rules. Moreover, it would make sense if Mysterio puts over Rollins. Adding a new disciple could boost the credibility of Rollins, and Dominick could be an option.

#3 Bayley costs Sasha Banks the RAW Women's Championship match

Two heavyweight names of the women's division will clash for the WWE RAW Women's Championship at Extreme Rules. After winning the red belt, Banks will be the biggest challenger for the Empress of Tomorrow.

Sasha Banks and Bayley aren't scheduled to defend their belts at Extreme Rules, but they have two separate singles matches. Banks will get the opportunity to become a five-time RAW Women's Champion, a record in the history of the title. Bayley, on the other hand, has her own big match against Nikki Cross, for the most coveted women's prize on the blue brand.

The storyline between Banks and Bayley has hinted at them turning on each other, which might lead to a colossal battle at WWE SummerSlam. The seeds for the match can be planted at Extreme Rules if Bayley costs Banks the title match, even without such an intention.

A misunderstanding can create a rift in their friendship. In addition, Bayley's involvement in the RAW Women's Championship match at WWE Extreme Rules should allow Banks to dodge a clean loss.

#2 Randy Orton must interfere the WWE Championship match

Randy Orton

Yes, Randy Orton has no business at Extreme Rules as he does not have a match at the pay-per-view. Nevertheless, rumors have been floating that The Viper is next in the line for WWE Championship, and he might dethrone the current champion, Drew McIntyre.

If the rumors are true, it would be a great move because Orton has not won the WWE Championship in three years. With his current momentum and the magnificent character work that he has shown, it would be a no-brainer to put the belt on Orton's shoulder. Orton as the WWE Champion could help resuscitate the ratings, which has fallen steadily.

In order to set up the match at SummerSlam, Orton should interfere in the WWE Championship match. A distraction from Orton might open up a possibility for Dolph Ziggler, and the match could become more competitive than expected.

Given McIntyre's impressive reign, he is a favorite before heading into Extreme Rules, so he is unlikely to lose the belt. Even if McIntyre retains the title successfully, Orton could ambush the champion, sending a clear message to McIntyre and announcing himself as the next challenger.

#1 Bray Wyatt should win the Swamp Match

Will he prevail?
Will he prevail?

Bray Wyatt is bringing back his old persona after a gap of a few years. The former WWE Universal Champion is scheduled to lock horns with the current Universal Champion, Braun Strowman, in a Swamp match, where the title will not be on the line. They are expected to have a cinematic match, similar to the Boneyard match or Firefly Funhouse match at WrestleMania 36.

Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman began their feud after WrestleMania 36 when the former set his eyes on the WWE Universal Championship. Playing the Bray Wyatt character - the host of the Firefly Funhouse, he lost the first match of this rivalry at Money in the Bank. Since returning with the new gimmick, it was Wyatt's second loss, after the surprising defeat against Goldberg at Super ShowDown.

After losing his previous match, Wyatt shouldn't lose another match, even with a completely different character. It is evident that The Fiend and Strowman are going to face each other for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam. Before moving forward to the Biggest Party of the Summer, Wyatt needs to build significant momentum, and a victory against the Universal Champion would allow him to do it.
