As one of the most successful WWE Superstars of the last decade, Roman Reigns does not lose to just anybody. The former Shield member has been defeated in plenty of matches during his eight years on the main roster, but it is still somewhat surprising whenever he is booked to lose via pinfall.

Between his February 2019 return and March 2020 leave of absence, Roman Reigns suffered pinfall losses against only three opponents – Shane McMahon, Erick Rowan and King Corbin – in his 46 matches on WWE television.

Dating back to the early days of Roman Reigns’ time on the main roster, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins usually lost matches for The Shield, with The Big Dog hardly ever being pinned.

As the years went on, the pinfall defeats obviously started to rack up for Roman Reigns, but what happened to the people who initially earned big wins over WWE’s next top Superstar?

In this article, let’s take a look back at the first five Superstars who pinned Roman Reigns to find out how their careers panned out.

#5 Jey Uso pinned Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins lost their first match together as a trio against Daniel Bryan, Kane and Randy Orton on a June 2013 episode of SmackDown.

On that occasion, Rollins lost the match for his team by tapping out to Bryan, and it took another three months before Roman Reigns suffered a pinfall defeat in a televised match.

In September 2013, nine months after The Shield’s in-ring debut, Roman Reigns was pinned by Jey Uso in an 11-on-3 elimination handicap match on RAW.

Jey Uso in 2020

Along with his twin Jimmy, Jey Uso has featured prominently in tag team storylines in WWE over the last seven years.

Back then, The Usos were still trying to establish themselves as a legitimate threat to the tag division on RAW and SmackDown, and they had never held the Tag Team titles when Jey Uso picked up that pinfall victory over Roman Reigns.

Although Jimmy Uso is currently sidelined with a knee injury, Jey Uso recently appeared on SmackDown as the host of the much-criticized Karaoke Showdown segment.

Once The Usos and Roman Reigns are back on television, it would not be at all surprising if they began working as on-screen allies once again.

#4 Cody Rhodes pinned Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins’ five-month reign as WWE Tag Team Champions came to an end in October 2013 when The Big Show interfered in their match against Cody Rhodes and Goldust on RAW.

Towards the end of the match, the seven-foot Superstar hit Roman Reigns with a KO Punch from outside the ring, allowing Cody Rhodes to take advantage by pinning a knocked-out Reigns to claim the titles for his team.

Cody Rhodes in 2020

While the majority of the names in this list still work for WWE, Cody Rhodes’ career path has taken several twists and turns since he recorded a rare pinfall win over Roman Reigns.

The former Legacy member left WWE at the end of his contract in 2016 and he soon began working for wrestling companies all around the world, including NJPW, ROH and IMPACT Wrestling, as well as various independent promotions.

Nowadays, Roman Reigns is arguably the biggest marquee name on the full-time WWE roster, while Cody Rhodes has become one of the most talked-about people in the wrestling business since the introduction of AEW in 2019.

Rhodes combines his off-screen role as an Executive Vice President of AEW by continuing to perform as an on-screen talent.

As of the time of writing, he currently holds the AEW TNT Championship.

#3 Bray Wyatt pinned Roman Reigns

One of the most memorable WWE matches of 2014 saw Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan and Luke Harper defeat Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in a six-man tag team match at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

In the closing stages of the chaotic encounter, Roman Reigns attempted to make a comeback after being left all alone in the middle of the ring with all three members of The Wyatt Family.

Roman Reigns successfully took Harper out of the equation with a spear before he ran into a crossbody from Wyatt, who followed up with his Sister Abigail finisher to record a pinfall win.

Bray Wyatt in 2020

Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes did not exactly achieve WWE superstardom after their pinfall victories over Roman Reigns, but Bray Wyatt came pretty close.

The Wyatt Family leader faced John Cena and The Undertaker at the next two WrestleMania events, losing both matches, before his character became somewhat stale in 2017-2018.

In 2019, Wyatt reinvented himself by introducing an alter-ego character, “The Fiend”, who has gone on to become one of the most interesting Superstars that WWE has seen in years.

Roman Reigns and “The Fiend” have not yet crossed paths, but it is inevitable that they will go one-on-one at some stage.

#2 The Big Show pinned Roman Reigns

Over two years after his WWE main-roster debut, Roman Reigns finally lost a televised singles match via pinfall when he was defeated by The Big Show on a February 2015 episode of RAW.

The show began with The Authority announcing that Roman Reigns would have to put his WWE Championship No.1 contender status on the line at Fastlane against either Daniel Bryan or Seth Rollins, with the winner facing Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31.

In the first match of the night, Rollins struck Roman Reigns in the back with his Money in the Bank briefcase while J&J Security (Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury) distracted the referee. This allowed The Big Show to follow up with a chokeslam to seal a 1-2-3 victory.

The Big Show in 2020

After competing in 124 matches in 2015, The Big Show began to slow down his WWE in-ring career in the years that followed.

The former WWE Champion has had high-profile matches with the likes of Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre in recent years, but it is safe to say that his future belongs away from the ring.

His Netflix series ‘The Big Show Show’ received a lot of praise, and Steve Austin has even agreed to make an appearance on the sitcom if it gets renewed for a second season.

#1 Seth Rollins pinned Roman Reigns

Four weeks before WrestleMania 31, Roman Reigns faced Seth Rollins in a singles match on WWE RAW. Of course, nobody simply went one-on-one with Rollins during that period of time, as he always had J&J Security helping him out from ringside.

On this occasion, Roman Reigns not only had to deal with distractions from Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury, but three other members of The Authority – The Big Show, Kane and Randy Orton – all tried to prevent The Big Dog from getting the win.

In the end, Orton grabbed hold of Roman Reigns’ foot while the referee attended to Kane, which allowed Rollins to roll his opponent up to seal the win.

Seth Rollins in 2020

Seth Rollins went on to pin Roman Reigns another four times in WWE, including in the main event of WrestleMania 31, meaning he has pinned his former Shield colleague on more occasions than anybody else.

Roman Reigns has remained a babyface in WWE over the last five years, but the same cannot be said for Rollins.

The Architect of The Shield began performing as a good guy in September 2016 before he turned against the WWE Universe again in November 2019.

Nowadays, Rollins calls himself The Monday Night Messiah and he is one of the top villains on RAW.
