From the WWE rumor mill: Brock Lesnar could drop the title and win it back before WrestleMania 34

Current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar hasn’t been seen since WrestleMania...

What’s the story?

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has stated ad nauseam that Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar will be the main event of WrestleMania 34. However, the dean of professional wrestling journalism has now added that there is a possibility that the Beast Incarnate could lose the title and win it back before April of next year.

In case you didn’t know...

Brock Lesnar is the fourth WWE Superstar to hold the Universal Championship. Kevin Owens, who held the title for 188 days, remains the longest reigning champion.

The heart of the matter

A Fatal 5-way match at Extreme Rules between Finn Balor, Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins will determine the number one contender for Lesnar’s title. Any one of these men could upset the Beast Incarnate and enjoy a short run with the gold.

Rumour has it that Braun Strowman's injury timeframe of six months is a work and that he'll be back by SummerSlam. The Monster among Men could also potentially dethrone Lesnar.

What’s next?

Lesnar’s return to the ring will be at the Great Balls of Fire pay per view on July 9th. According to PWInsider, Lesnar will make his television return to Monday Night Raw on June 12th in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Author’s take

Unless Lesnar is going to make a lot more appearances between SummerSlam and WrestleMania, he should not be holding the Universal Title.

Also, unless they plan on making Reigns a full-blown heel, there is not going to be a magic potion that WWE can come up with to make the fans accept him. However, as we have seen in the past couple of WrestleManias, Vince McMahon does what he wants.
