From The WWE Rumor Mill:  Is the WWE planning on a Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar match?

The WWE Unive
The WWE Universe definitely wants to see this match...

What's the story?

On a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc.), Dave Meltzer discusses a major topic ever since Bobby Lashley returned to the WWE. Do the WWE have plans for an epic Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley match?

In case you didn't know...

Lashley's last pay per view match in the WWE was on July 22, 2007, when he lost to John Cena in a WWE Championship at the Great American Bash. Lashley suffered an injury during that match and was released a few months later.

The heart of the matter

Even though Meltzer reported in January that Lashley may start a feud with Lesnar after WrestleMania, there are not any plans for the two to clash at this point.

At this point in January, Lesnar was not made aware of a potential feud with Lashley, and he is supposed to be told about any potential programs with another WWE Superstar in advance.

Lashley spoke with Main Event Radio last November (while he was still with Impact Wrestling) about this potential colossal feud and here was what he had to say:

"There's not too much time left on my contract but I like it here. There are some big fights and big matches that people are constantly bugging me about that I have to consider," Lashley said. "The only natural one is Brock [Lesnar]. Whether it's in fighting or wrestling, that match needs to happen. If he retires without doing that match, it's stupid. If I retire before doing that match, it's stupid. I could post a picture of my kids or of me eating a Popsicle and people will ask me when I'm going back to WWE or when I'll go against Brock. It's one of those things that if the fans want it and beg for it enough, it'll happen."

Lashley did indicate that he is in regular contact with Paul Heyman; which could help the process of getting this feud started. He made fun of the fact that Heyman contacts him when Brock makes him mad, but then disappears when they make-up.

What's next?

Lashley does not currently have a feud, but it's hard to fathom he'd be sitting on the sidelines for Backlash on May 6th. There may be some clarity on his first WWE pay per view in nearly 11 years on next week's edition of Monday Night Raw.

Author's take

Before the inevitable exit to the UFC for Brock Lesnar, I think it would be a disservice to both wrestlers and the WWE Universe if a match between those two doesn't happen. Now that both men are finally in the same company, this match HAS to happen!
