From the WWE Rumor Mill: Reason why Ronda Rousey is appearing at Elimination Chamber

Ronda R
Ronda Rousey made a surprise appearance at Royal Rumble last month

What's the story?

Kurt Angle announced on Monday Night Raw this week that Ronda Rousey will appear at the Elimination Chamber pay per view to sign her WWE Raw contract. NoDQ.com is reporting on the possible reason why the WWE decided to bring her to their next pay per view.

In case you didn't know...

Rousey began her professional MMA career in 2011 at the King of the Cage: Turning Point event. After four fights with Strikeforce, she signed a deal to fight for the UFC in 2013. She won her first 12 fights before losing her last two in November 2015 and December 2016.

The heart of the matter

According to the NoDQ article, ticket sales for the Elimination Chamber are weak and the decision was made to make Ronda Rousey sign her WWE contract at the pay per view than on Monday Night Raw.

The pay per view takes place in Paradise, Nevada, which is just outside of Las Vegas. The headquarters of the UFC is in Las Vegas as well, so the WWE is hoping the addition of Rousey will draw some attention and sell tickets for the show.

At the time of this writing, it is unknown what Rousey's role at WrestleMania will be. There were rumors that the WWE wanted her to tag with The Rock to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, but with The Rock's Hollywood schedule, that could be a long shot.

What's next?

The Elimination Chamber pay per view is just a week and a half away when it takes place in Paradise, Nevada on 25 February. The men's Chamber match will feature seven WWE Superstars, and the women will have a Chamber match for the first time with Alexa Bliss having to defend her WWE Raw Women's Championship.

Author's take

It definitely makes a lot of sense to bring Ronda in for a big moment on the pay per view, but I'm not sure whether it will translate to ticket sales from the WWE Universe. If you've noticed on their television shows lately, the crowd boos when Rousey's name is mentioned; which I find odd considering she's a tremendous hire for the company.
