From the WWE rumour mill: First Inductee into 2019 Hall Of Fame revealed?

What's the story?

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE is seriously considering inducting Bam Bam Bigelow into the Hall Of Fame, Class of 2019.

It's still early days so we should take this news with a grain of salt until further confirmation.

In case you didn't know...

Bam Bam Bigelow is a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion, a former IWGP Tag-Team Champion and a former WCW Hardcore Champion. He's best known for his time in ECW although he did spend time in the WWE where he won a Slammy award in 1987.

Unfortunately, Bigelow passed away at the age of just 45 in 2007. His death was said to be the cause of multiple drugs found in his system including an anti-anxiety drug.

The heart of the matter

Dave Meltzer is reporting that Bam BamBigelow was originally considered for this year's Hall Of Fame but later replaced by Mark Henry.

Meltzer also adds that the reason Bigelow was pushed back to next year is that of his connection to New Jersey. Bigelow was born and raised in New Jersey even though he wrestled out of Florida later on in his career.

What's next?

It's probably too early to get a confirmation on Bigelow just yet. Bam Bam was an underrated wrestler.

Author's take

Having headlined the first ever Survivor Series and King of the Ring, and as a big man who could fly in an era where it wasn't as common, Bigelow has earned his place in wrestling history.

Although he isn't the first wrestler you'd think of when you think of ECW, he was as integral to their success as many of his more famous peers.
